How many hardware will the xss sell?

How does the console sell now? Its lying in the shelves already discounted or / and with Things bundled in. If it would Do 4k/60 on 360 titles i might habe bought one to finally play kameo

Moving to 5nm and 3nm will reduce some costs because it will require less power, less cooling and be smaller.

Its rarely discounted.

That's your criteria to buy one? It plays Xbox and 360 games at native 1440p and Kameo now runs at 60fps.

Havent seen it yet not Discounted on Amazon. Even day one. Living in germany.

The opposite for me in UK its been £249.99 since day 1.

But yes, germany dont like the seriesS as much. But to say the seriesS is always discounted is not true.

Okay.

But either way the point remains that Sony has already been able to cut production costs on the PS5. Which apparently won't happen according to the poster I quoted.

The only reason the ps4 didn't come down is price was because they were still able to sell it at 300 and make massive profit margins
How does them selling it at break even mean they've cut costs? Then how does that indicate that they'll be able to drop the price without getting SOC costs significantly reduced by shrinking nodes?

The PS4 price is still high even though it's selling literally nothing worldwide. Why? Because they can't drop the price without eating losses.

Those shrinks likely won't happen though.

Huh?

Apple is already using 5nm, and all major chip vendors plan to use these smaller dies.

I think the first point is right given the msrp is the same, something in the production process got slightly cheaper to go from loss making to break-even (can someone smarter than me tell me if companies account for shipping costs when they talk about this kind of things). This could be better deals on the stuff like the fans or even the revision might have (probably has) dropped the BoM on the PS5.

But yeah, there is no guarantee that the BoM is going to reduce at the same rate any time soon.

Nah in 2-3 years time when the Series X is still the same price it was on release day, people will still be buying the Series S.

It seems that a lot of people on here are still expecting big price drops for these consoles when it's just not going to happen. Even the previous generation barely saw any price drops. A PS4 is still bloody $400 here in australia. By this stage of the previous generations the consoles were in the bargain bin. The Switch still hasn't either.

With manufacturing processes where they are now there's just no room for price drops without the next big breakthrough in silicon or its replacement.
Nothing i said is counter to your post. I never claimed there would be price drops. The Switch is still the same price as when it released cost to 5 years ago. The only thing I expect when consoles are more readily available are promotions (ie 3 months free game pass, free game(s) included, etc).

My point was that once the xsx is readily available some potential xss buyers will instead buy the xsx since it's more powerful. Around Christmas and holidays the xss will still do well though.

XSS = 50 million
XSX = 30 million
PS5 = 90 million given the shortages till 2023.
So you are basically expectingai a 1:1 split this generation between Xbox and PlayStation after the 2.3:1 for the last. I wonder what kind of disaster happened for Sony, was their headquarters struck by a comet?..

A disaster does not need to happen to sony. But its inevitable that sony will lose some customers this gen because Xbox has a very strong first party and the most developers, gamepass, cloud and excellent hardware.

These platforms are only as good as they are in these areas. Sony does not have the 1st party or hardware advantage anymore. And brand loyalty and reputation is not enough to keep Xbox at xbox one levels of installbase.

Really ? I was under the impression it was 1080p. Will look into it, thanks. Sadly i play on a e-shift 4k projector. So upscaling of any sort makes the artefact amplified by quite alot. would still much prefer it being native 4k.
