How many players will Veilguard see on Steam? How many will equate to a success?

Think it'll need to reach at least 200k concurrent with it's peak to be a success with the amount of work and budget they put into. Should end up around the 100k mark and overall after all the platforms combined it'll be below expectation but not a total flop.
Tell me big AAA RPG that reviewed well (80+ MC) that bombed? Let's be honest, people don't just want this game to fail, they want Bioware to be closed down. It isn't happening. Veilguard, on a technological level, is a polished AAA RPG. Studio isn't going anywhere, even if the game doesn't sell gangbusters. Mass Effect is still on the horizon

Metaphor sold like a million copies within 3 days. What you talking about?

Akshually, it sold a million copies in ONE day! Let's get our facts straight here

People twisting every statistic to turn this into the next culture war win. Just let it go, people. Who cares. It’s a big franchise, with marketing, with fans, it’s going to do very well.

Move on.
No way. It’s not enough for me to be happy. I want the people that financed/made this game to be unhappy.

People shouldn't get it twisted on the CCU; they are assuredly needing this to hit above 100k. Compared to Space Marine, made on a shoestring budget and hitting 200k, Bioware's budget will have no doubt been much bigger.

This is a well-known franchise with a built-in audience that managed to secure some astro-turfed good reviews. It was never going to be a bomb. But the dust will settle pretty soon I reckon.

A lot of poor bastards are going to get totally blindsided by all that non-binary and trans stuff. Can you imagine how much that must suck - like walking into a glass door.

I don't think it's, by any metric, going to have bad numbers. The general public it's not going to see it in such a bad light as your average news-seeking, woke-adverse gaffer. If the game really strikes a nerve or if it's actually bad we'll see a fast decline but opening numbers are going to be OK or good.

What an interesting take on the community here.

OT: Sales across all platforms will be the way to measure its success. There's been a lot of wildly different critical/reviewer takes, though, so I'm interested to see what Stream players will have to say if they choose to leave feedback.

It's 2-3 month in reception is most critical, because the success of Mass Effect 5 is gonna be tied to this game. Kinda what I would want isn't a catastrophic collapse of DA:V that ills the studio, but rather a tepid enough reception that "the powers that be" get nervous and allow changes to ME5 to ensure IT doesn't get further slapped. Let this game be a signal flare showing the rocks ahead so ME5 can avoid them and be a better game for all of us.

There's no reason it shouldn't sell as well as baulders gate, if it was actually a great game on par. It could have been.

So anything under 900,000 is a failure I say 🤔 🙃
Yes an 80 something metacritic should definitely sell as well as the game of the generation. You people are hilarious.
