How often do you replay games?

Just looking at my game collection, there are a few games I really don't believe I'll ever play again, GTA Episodes, RDR, PoP'08, Lost (the worst game I've played this generation) etc. I could trade these in and probably get Vanquish for free, but I'm not too keen on trading in. What do you do with games you probably won't trade in, ever traded something in to repurchase it later? Any general thoughts on replaying and trading really.

i'm pretty ruthless when it comes to trade-in/selling games i've played to 'completion' which is basically a point i've decided not to touch it again.

what happens is that occasionally i'll get rid of a game that 6 months to a year later i'll wish I had kept so i could play again (see: Darksiders). however, this typically keeps my collection pretty lean and only populated by games that i deem worth owning regardless of their depth or re-playability.

the opposite is holding onto games for too long and then wondering why i'm letting them collect dust when i could flip them toward a new game.

I seem to be opposite most people on this one: I love to replay longer games like RPGs, but am not all that compelled to replay shorter games. And I replay most of my favorite RPGs every year or two.

short and sweet games = replay often

long ass, unskippable cutscenes, Open World NPC mission dispensers = once

I'm actually the exact opposite. I tend to play RPGs more than once and leave the shorter titles alone once I finish...

I currently don't have ANY plans to replay any games I have platinum trophies for on PS3. Unless I replay them years down the road for nostalgia's sake.

As a general rule of thumb I replay every game I own at least once, though some titles like R:FoM and BF:BC1 have each been beaten at least four times.

Almost never.

If I have time, I rather put time in my backlog (which has more than 100+ games) In fact, I actually feel bad for replaying games. I feel like wasting my time when there are other things waiting for me to play them. The only time I replay games is when they re-release them on a different system many years later with added content or remade. Like Zelda : OoT for 3DS will be the only time I will play that game again.

Almost never. Played Mass Effect through twice, the second time was only to experience the Sovereign conversation on Virmire, which was likely my favorite game moment of all time.

I don't replay games very often, but those that I do (Halos, Shining Forces, EDF...), I replay at least two or three times, if not more.

I have never traded in or sold any of my games.

Last game I replayed was Bayonetta, about 4 times I think. But you are a real goddamn fool if you don't play that game multiple times.

I've played it thru a couple of times, still time for more no doubt.

For the people never replaying, do you tend to rent games? Most could easily be blown thru in a week, seems odd to buy for that, although I guess I do it myself often.

the game i've replayed the most times would be symphony of the night.

easily been through that game north of 10 times. not including richter plays (which is prob 4-5).

Not as much as I'd like, but once this gen ends, I'm out of current gen gaming (until my kids get involved). At that point I'll have tons of shit to replay and most likely a ton of stuff I've never played.

I have no criteria for what I replay other than whatever I'm in the mood for and it holds my interest during the replay (some games, like DQVIII surprisingly did not).

Hmm.

Ninja Gaiden - 4 times.
Resident Evil 4 - 2.5 times
Shogun: Total War - 9000 times (strategy games don't really count, though).

Not many others have been very replayable. It's usually a rush to get through them followed by a complete disinterest in returning to those games.

When I was young/poor I would replay games all the time. Now I almost NEVER do it. Usually when I'm "done" with a game it gets sold. The only games I hold on to are the ones I collect (Mario, Castlevania, etc.). I'm actually holding onto MGS4 just because I want to play through it again but considering my massive backlog I probably never will and should get rid of it.

I don't rent for two reasons. 1) I never know when I'll get time to actually play the game and with my work schedule renting would cause me stress since I'd feel compelled to play. 2) In general when I buy games I don't intend to keep they are <$20 through clearance or other promotions so by the time I buy and eventually sell it it's not much more than a rental.

I never rent. I should, I suppose, but for two reasons. I like to play them at my leisure, and I like to have them around in case anyone else wants to play them.

Lots, lots and lots unless the game was just terrible.

Right now I am actually about 1/3 into code:veronica on dreamcast, I replay my xbla arcade games often, must have played gears 1 about 4 times through, gears 2 at least 3 times, I still play a bunch of old games especially the 16 and 8 bit sonic titles, I play a lot of old dreamcast games since I pulled them out of my storage the other month, I play pc games a lot and still having run with random rally races in Dirt2 even though I completed it months ago now.

Doubt I will replay a game like Star Ocean 4 though once I finish it, a bit too much to play.

Depends on how much I like the game. I've replayed the Xenosaga series four times now.

I will replay this when enough time has gone by that I forget most plot-points. The wound is still too raw from it being cut short anyways.

I love replaying games--especially RPGs.

Of course, stuff like L4D/L4D2 gets in the way sometimes, just because of their structure. I can play them for hours/days.

Really depends on the game. I've played through Blue Dragon maybe 3 or 4 times. Most RPGs I tend to return a lot.

Full Throttle, once a year ;D

And i do get the occasional "oh shit i haven´t played this in ages!" But those bursts of enthusiasm usually die after a couple of hours and i stop.

Yeah depends on the game.

Sports games are generally the ones you could play for a long time. Virtua Tennis seems like the number one choice since technically any version of it never needs to be updated.

Halo for it's mulitplayer I guess. But I do find myself going back to the campaign of Halo CE every now and again.

And classics get a run here and there. Sonic 1, Donkey Kong Country, Punch Out.

I've replayed through A Crack in Time about 4 times. Not sure why, I never really replay through any other games. It might be because I get to keep the leveled up weapons from previous play-throughs.

I tend to replay the game I love a tons. Especially if they have a unique feeling or awesome controls. Right now I'm supposed to play Mafia 2, but all of a sudden I felt the need to replay Timesplitters 3, and haven't touched Mafia 2 since then :lol

I wish they made more fast, frantic and shallow shooters like that these days, now we have shallow shooters that tries to be deep and or realistic, but they're slow and clunky :( Why do player care so much about accuracy and head shots and play on consoles with controllers?:lol

Almost Never, too many good games, huge backlog, etc. I've only replayed a handful of games

- Um Jammer Lammy
- FFVII
- Jet Set Radio
- Shenmue 2
- Uncharted 2 (lol trophies)
- Resident Evil 5 (same as above)

I never rent games and rarely sell them, I love to have them around for friends who wants to play them or give them away.

For me it depends on the game and how much I like it. I think I've played through Kingdom Hearts II, Uncharted 2, Final Fantasy games, inFAMOUS and probably others multiple times. For PS3 games I'm more likely to play through a game more than once to get a platinum. But if I start to feel like my backlog is getting to big I try to move on to my other games, lately I've been feeling like that. When my backlog starts to clear up I'll do more run-through's of Demon's Souls because I love that game =].

there's a few games recently I can think of like

restarting or just playing through the beginning part dunno if that counts but

re2

and demons souls( though I've beaten that nearly everytime I've restarted it lol)

and chrono cross I definitely replayed or still replay

I can play a short game or a game that let's me select a fun level, all day, every day.

While I also love 60 hour RPGs and open world games, they only get a once over.

Well back when all I had was a SNES I replayed the hell out of MMX, Super Mario World, and A Link to the Past. Now I mostly play multiplayer PC games, and unless online multiplayer is considered replaying, I don't replay anything anymore.

Not often at all, much as I want to. I'm saving my replays for when I eventually decide to quit buying games, for whatever reason.

The only time I've replayed games is when they have some kind of 'new game +' where you can carry over previously earned weapons/stats. RE4 and Ratchet and Clank: Tools of Destruction were the last two that I replayed.

I'll play the Metal Gear Solid games ounce a year, I like t replay at least one of my favorite jrpgs every ounce in a while, because I like relive the adventure. Bioware games get a couple of replays because of their "choice" factor.

So basically I replay the games I really like every now and then. Games I'm more chilled on maybe just get a 2nd play through if their not too long ie Bioshock, Saints Row, ect ect.

Almost never... I usually start second playthrough but rarely finish them unless the game is really REALLY awesome (like MGS series etc.)
