Humble SNK NeoGeo 25th Anniversary bundle, including several PC debut games

Sorry to double post, but the fact that these are just legally-sold straight-up ROMs from their original publishe and are DRM-free is kind of amazing. It's something I've wanted to see old console and arcade game developers do for a while -- sort of do the GOG or Humble treatment but for unlocked ROMs instead of old PC games.

What if, I don't know, Konami (lol) decided to set up a site somewhere where it just sold you unlocked Castlevania and Contra ROMs packaged with soundtracks, original manuals as PDFs, and artwork?

O_O So awesome! Worth it for just the metal Slug games. I already own them on PS2 but to have them easy available on Steam! So worth it. Already planning an evening with a buddy and all Metal Slug games and some booze.

There are actually some of these on Steam too.

There's obviously the Sega collections, but there's also this company Console classics
http://store.steampowered.com/search/?publisher=Console Classics

That flat out sells PSone emulated games of old ass stuff they've dug around for the rights for.

Excuse me, I don't understand one thing about this bundle: there are some games without Steam keys... But for these games we have confirmation of a Steam release thanks to SteamDB leaks.

Are Steam activations released in the next days?

OK I installed Fightcade, but seems the game can only run in MVS mode? How do I set it to AES? Actually when I choose AES, Garou doesn't run, seems I'm missing some files?
Would appreciate someone to clear this up at least :X

In the past, if a game released on Steam long after a Humble Bundle, Steam keys were added (similar to most bundle sites).

It's not certain that they would do it with these, but I bought it just in case.

I think $10 for the 5 Steam keys you do get is a decent price anyways.

None of those Steam releases have been officially announced yet so there's no way to know if this bundle will supply Steam keys for them or not.

The humble bundle versions are emulations of arcade ROMs with a very bare-bones frontend. No online play, and (AFAIK) you can't remap controls.

Yup, as such you can get an emulator such as MAME or Fightcade and use th ROMs with them.

Metal Slug
Metal Slug X
Metal Slug 3
King of Fighters 98 Ultimate Match Final Edition
King of Fighters 2002 Ultimate Match

are already Steam games (with online multiplayer/achievements etc.)

The SNK games from the Steam registry leak were:

366230 = BASEBALL STARS 2
366240 = GAROU: MARK OF THE WOLVES
366260 = METAL SLUG 2
366270 = SHOCK TROOPERS
366280 = TWINKLE STAR SPRITES

so should we not buy this, or is like the steam version going to be included later in the bundle or

Oh god help me the games WILL NOT run at normal speed. Its worse than Salty Bets or SF2 turbo maxed out. Why is this happening and why cant I stop it... ;_;

Use Fightcade or MAME mate. If you are using them, what's the issue exactly?

My dream is that someday these companies bring all their games under one frontend with friend leaderboards and challenges. They should take a note from Pinball FX is what I'm saying.

So do we know if the AES versions are included on the roms or not?

all neo geo games include both the AES and MVS versions in them. It's just a toggle in the system. They are not separate roms. You can access the AES version from an MVS cart, and vice versa.

Since you can run these in any emulator you want, you can switch versions at will.

Playing in browser at work. Played about 20 minutes of Neo Turf Masters with no issues, but had tons of hiccups in Baseball Stars 2 to the point that it was almost unplayable (all hiccups were happening mid pitch!).

Hope they run better on my home PC somehow?

I just thought maybe they locked them out or something since you can't select them in the emulator that comes with the bundle. But if not that's great.

Junior, please.
It was tempting until I remembered that the Last Blade 2 was coming out on the PS4 and Garou on steam.

And you forgot that this is for charity and you get more games than just Garou and Last Blade.

You clearly like Neo Geo games, why would anyone not give $10 to charity to legally own all these? You can even drop the ROMs into RetroArch if you're not satisfied with the emulation quality.

I always had a soft spot for snk chara design, is the best kof included here or is it not part of the bundle ?... Strange wording, what I mean is 'what is in the community's mind the best kof and is is included here ?'
A little better but I must be tired.

Those are locked within wrappers though right? And tied to Steam. My dream would be something much closer to GOG except they just let you use whatever emulator you want.

EDIT: NVM FIGURED IT out lol
Just had to switch to unibios

Went ahead and bought it. Although I'm kind of lost on how to get the ROMs working in MAME (first time using it). Guess I'll figure that out later.

Hot damn, this is quite surprising, not only due to the sheer amount of games, but also the "Humble Debut". Part of me is holding back due to most of these not being on Steam (with no confirmation if they'll be added later/keys will be handed out), but shit...seems like too good an offer to pass up either way.

I hate to say it, but this.

Does anyone think that they might update the bundle with steam codes before the deal is over?

Heck, even that T Shirt looks kinda sexy...

If the ROMs in this collection work with FightCade out-of-the-box (and there's no reason they shouldn't unless the online component expects a different region than is given), then this is a great way to support SNK Playmore while still being able to play the games in a way that doesn't rely on DotEmu's crap.

Just straigth copy garou and neogeo zips from DotEmu Install on a FightCade fresh install show this (game is playable)

So how's the emulation on these?

On my 7'y laptop, the DotEmu runs like shit... too fast to play (I haven't found the way to lower the speed emulation)

On a proper emu... it's just fine...

KoF 98 and 2k2 are both considered two of, if not the two, best entries in the series.

Fuck is there no FPS limiter settings or options here. Anyone got a clue on this thing? I can't play any of them because they are all flying like mad.

So wait, they are just straight ROM's? Or are they packaged in front loaders and we can pull the ROMS's out of some sort of directory?

Saw Garou and bought it then and there lol, missed playing this game soooo much on the 360. Anybody who likes fighting games and never played Garou, BUY IT! It's coming on Steam sooner or later though but still, one of the best fighters ever!

Actually any fighting game fans should buy it since the bundle has a nice collection of old SNK fighters. SamSho2 is also great, never played SamShoV Special or Last Blade(only played 2) though. Also from what I remember, Art of Fighting 2 was pretty fun.....though I mostly remember it having huge ass sprites and a gym stage. Would've been a even better deal if they had Real Bout 2/Last Blade 2 :).

Yo how can I set AB, BC and CD mcaros for a game like Garou on fightcade?

Fuck is there no FPS limiter settings or options here. Anyone got a clue on this thing? I can't play any of them because they are all flying like mad.

OK first off got to Fightcade.com
Download the client then make a fightcade.com account
Now after extracting fightcade, copy garou and neo geo compressed folders (For example) to fightcade's rom folder.

Run fightcade, log in with your account. Find the game then type /Play to run it. Boom you can now use fightcade to play the games preoperly
