Hyper Light Drifter |OT| We On A HyperLight Beam

The timing on the dash combo sucks. I can't remotely do it consistently and that's a problem. They really need to loosen that input window. I've seen combos in fighting games easier to pull off.

Chain dash really isn't that hard to get down, harder than fighting game combos? Killer Instinct's maybe......

Owners: 21,796 ± 3,511

Is that good for the first 2-3 days of a game?
Steamspy numbers are all over the place until about three days after a game's release

Yeah, it seems like it is practically a 1 frame window. I can barely get to 5 or 6 times.

Otherwise the game feels great.

For you folks asking which way to go early on in the game, don't fucking go west.

Good lord, west is no joke lol. I turned my ass around and now heading north. Hope to have more luck.

"Finished" this earlier. Final boss was a lot of fun. Still unsure of the story and what was accomplished and why but I still love the style and atmosphere of the game. Now I need to find more keys and more triangles and more tablets.

In game timer says 11 hours but It's been a little bit since I beat the last boss and saw the credits because I'm looking for seeeecrets.

The best part about it is that while it incorporates elements of all of those games, I don't view it as a rip-off or rehash of any of them. It definitely brings its own unique spin to all those aspects. The biggest concept that it takes wholesale from another game is the language stuff from FEZ... but I choose to think of it as an homage.

You're right - I love the worldless style in games! Probably a great way to work on a budget too. I'm still trying to figure out what the game's actually about, whatever the element it's mixing with all the inspiration is. The way the character interacts with and carries on through the world is incredibly beautiful so far, the heart machine thing really works for me! I'm almost certain I can hear the beating of a heart at points.

NOW you tell me - West was the first way I went and it was mighty tough. However, I felt it trained me well for the rest of the game.

Anyway I just beat it. It was a fun, interesting, stylish and polished game. I LOVE the visuals in this game, I am completely enraptured by the entire thing on a visual and audial level. I also like how the HUD and menus are explained through almost no text whatsoever. That's pretty clever, not to mention it must make it very importer friendly.

The gameplay is challenging, but just on that level where it always feels beatable and you feel like a champ when you clear an area. Lots of fun secrets to find too. Plus all the storytelling being done in the landscape and through "dialogue" done purely in visuals. It gives enough of an idea of what's going on without explaining everything 100%, so still lots of mystery and speculation arises from it.

If there's one thing I didn't like, it was the final boss.
One, I feel it's frankly a bit shit that it was something we saw in the Kickstarter video over 2 years ago - so much for that being a surprise. Two, while it looked awesome and had lots of cool attacks, it wasn't quite the uber challenge you'd expect from a game which already threw two VERY hard bosses at you beforehand. Perhaps I had enough upgrades to nullify a lot of its attacks at that point, but for being the final challenge that the game was building up to, it was quite a letdown.

Putting that aside though, I'm happy with this game. It was worth the wait! I hope Heart Machine get to make plenty more games like it in the future.

Very intrigued so far. Soundtrack is godly. The whole UI aesthetic is great, trying to figure out
what all these shops want.

So, game worth buying? Is it as cool as the trailers? I've been hearing negative impressions elsewhere but how do you guys feel?

can someone give me a good summary of how it plays?

Geez, got 114 dashes and seems for the second prize the bar is not even 1/4 of the way. Is it like 1000 dashes total? don't think I can do this.

800 dashes. Good luck !

So did I hear right that certain gear actually affects some passive stats ? Like easier to build up gun ammo with certain sword ? is there a link for such info ?

The game plays like A Link to the Past with a touch of Dark Souls design and obfuscation. The combat takes a bit of getting used to and feels a little gimped until you're an upgrade or two in, but feels great after that, especially as you start picking up more weapons. The world is fascinating, and continues to hit me with visual 'holy shit' moments. Tons of secrets. A very substantial amount of content beyond the bare minimum needed to progress. Has a fair amount of difficulty, and can sometimes feel a little cheap whether because of the visual style or what you're getting hit with at a moment you're not ready for it, but the death penalty is pretty non-existent and things become much fairer/easier once you start learning how to play 'this' game rather than bringing in preconceptions from others.

It's a super tough call between this and Momodora, but damn, that's the kind of tough call I feel fortunate to have this early into the year.

Put in some time today, pretty great experience so far. I really like the visuals/atmosphere/music and how it all comes together as a package. Everything feels mysterious and foreign. Mechanically it feels nice, I went north from the opening village and seem to be doing well. I believe I've just encountered the boss, but I might go back and spend some of my money since the best I've done is getting half of his health down in about a half dozen tries.

On that note, I'm not sure if they are just specific to this area, but what are the tablets for that you can activate? A character pops up next to them for a minute and then writing appears on the tablet itself, but nothing else seems to happen.

How many bosses there are in the South? Feels like I'm up against the fourth.

800 dashes. Good luck !

Yeah, equipping a single piece of gear is enough to activate a passive effect. Not sure if anybody collected all the effects in a single list.

God damn, the difficulty suddenly ramped up wherever I am. Went
underground in the south section of the East side of the map
. I should probably wait and come back but I don't wanna give up. There's a bunch of
angry Ivysaur's and a few shooters
. They just keep coming!

bought the charge spinny sword upgrade, havent used it once >_> always forget

Picked up the game today. Figured I might as well and ask for a Steam refund if I didn't enjoy it. Well, good news is that the game is awesome and that I'll keep it - combat is lot of fun. Good challenge, though I haven't fought a boss yet.

Bad news is that my save hit some sort of glitch. I was doing some sort of platforming puzzle, so I died a few times and respawned. But on the last respawn, I just get a black screen (but hear the music). Reloading the game does nothing. Some other people have the same problem in the Steam forums, and apparently reinstalling doesn't fix it.

:S

The known ones so far (from what I've seen on the steam forums and found myself) are:
Blue Set - Double Dash / Special Meter
Pink Set - Double Bullet Charge Rate
Green(? The one you get from finding all the monoliths) Set - Extra Health Block

north and east down, 2 to go. Been doing 1 zone a day, feels nice (I dont have much free time). North zone was deffinately shorter than east, I did it in about an hour (didnt get all secrets obviously, onky found 4 triangles, found 5 in the east)

got the extra medkit upgrade now too. Still havent used the spinny sword lol >_<

I really hate the weird map and the level design. The map makes no sense and the hidden paths behind the evironment are so hard to find cause it takes so much time to check out every angle behind a tree.

Music and combat is god like!

I'm ok with stuff hidden in the environment or behind something because there is usually a little tell there is something there, like one of the floor tile lights, some rubble or debris, some path through the leaves etc.

The map though, while it looks pretty can be confusing especially as the drifters position doesn't really update relative to where you are on the map in a section and it doesn't show encountered locked doors so you need to make a mental note of any locked doors and how to get to back to them. I'm not asking it to tell me where the doors are before I've found them, just mark them on my map after I've tried to open them.

I've been alt+tabbing since the first day without problems. About the map, just wish we could mark points of interest. I don't remember every single door I've found before having enough keys to open them.

I've had no issues with the level design, the map is taking a bit of getting used to. Just very stylised, tricky to read at a glance.

So I've been collecting
the weird yellow squares that I assume is currency. You get 4 mini ones to make a full one. I have three full ones so far, what should I be buying? :D

Chain Dash ASAP. For the rest, depends of your playstyle.

Has the 30 FPS been jarring at all? Or is it not noticeable?

Also, does anyone know if this game supports 21:9 aspect resolutions?

I dont notice it at all, but then again, im not really bothered by 30fps... its like we didnt play consoles for over 20 years or something sometimes around here >_>

Looks like a bunch of areas that were Kickstarter stretch goals never made it in, like the Broken Shallows and the Burning Caverns. I know stuff gets cut from games all the time but's it still disappointing to hear. =/
This game is phenomenal, can we not just be happy? :)

Had to return this on steam, unfortunately only got around 5-10 fps on my 2009 macbook pro with a nvidia geforce 9400m. I'll repurchase it when I have something that will run it better.

I would rather have a damn near perfect 5-8 hours than an extended experience muddled by mediocrity. Transistor was flaked a little bit for being too short, but I have nothing but the fondest memories of the game because it didn't overstay its welcome.

2010 Macbook here. Was disappointed with the performance on mine as well. PS4 will be here soon enough!

I see people saying that beginners shouldn't go west. I guess that's why it felt so hard :D Haven't even been to the other areas yet as I just cleared the West area. I guess it's as good of an initiation to the game's mechanics as any.
