Hyper Light Drifter |OT| We On A HyperLight Beam

I'm just happy a final boss is actually hard instead of being a game where previous bosses are way harder and last one is just weaksauce. I do like the mysterious ending
that doesn't explain everything (the dog) but still is a conclusion with fixing the darkness infection and showing the sun.

Just finished the game, and I really enjoyed it quite a lot. The style and atmosphere were pretty good, but what sold me on this game was the gameplay. It is no-nonsense, fast-paced, and quite brutally difficult (Especially on the bosses). My only real criticisms are that the East boss was way too easy compared to the other bosses and that some bosses stun-locked a little bit too much to be entirely fair. Still, 9/10 best game of 2016 so far.

Can't figure out how to get the fourt square thing in the east area. I just wanna fight a boss already. Anyone got any hints? Its the one straight from the boss area I can't figure how to get overe there.

Has the 30 FPS been jarring at all? Or is it not noticeable?

Its very jarring because its a top-down view and the art is static, unlike a 3D game where you're swinging the camera and can eventually get used to it*. Move your mouse across your monitor and try to focus on it clearly, now imagine its twice as jittery. You'll be doing this often because of how beautiful and imaginative the environments are, but you'll find that nothing sits still unless you stop moving. It doesnt detract from the gameplay itself but its very noticeable especially up close on a monitor. I found it better far away on my TV, but this game doesn't play nice with multi-monitor connections so I'm stuck on the monitor for now.

Two questions: First, for the 8 pieces in the North, is there a piece behind the key door (I think its 10 keys required) in the village part way up? I have 7, not sure where the last is...

Second, how many dashes are required to get the cape in the dash room? It's not the full 800, right?
It is not behind any key doors. And the second reward is at 800 dashes.
I'm also curious if a piece is behind the locked door.
Nope.
None of the pieces are behind key doors in any of the areas. You can get them all without any required upgrades or keys (I believe? You might need the Sniper Rifle or the first Dash Upgrade)
Yep.
Damn,.. having got the dash gear reward I'm still not able to change capes in NG+ :(
I read somewhere that you can't change capes at all in NG+. Pretty unfortunate since the White Cape is soooo cool.

Anyone know if they're actually working on this, or is this basically them saying it's too hard to bother with?

So I purchased the HumbleBundle preview+bonus pack (art book, wallpaper, blah blah blah)
Does anyone knows where can I download that content? I've already redeem my steam key and my game is working, but I can't find the bonus pack thing. In the humble bundle claimed page I only have a link to download the game :(

Please help
The add-on content isn't completed yet. We will find out more/get it in a couple of weeks at least. They wanted to get the game out first and worry about everything else later.

And there should be two additional keys for the Golden Weapon + Companion and one for the Alternate Drifter if you got that as well.

Need some hints as how to open this barrier

You can never open it. Have you go through a different direction.

Argh, cannot find the 8th tri piece in the north zone. I'm also wondering how I get across here, in this bit just before the bird boss?

Hnnn why is my image not showing... http://imgur.com/79JLS7E

There's a hidden path between some bookcases but there's also a hidden path within the hidden path.
Try heading south when you first walk into the first hidden path.

Are all upgrade boxes obtainable without special upgrades or gear?

No. There's some where you need the Chain Dash upgrade.

It's at 60hz. Hopefully RivaTuner will help. If not I'll just play with my monitor I guess. Looks so great on my plasma though

Edit****RivaTuner fixed most of it. Runs pretty smoothly now.

Best settings for me are limiting to 30fps with RivaTuner and selecting application settings in the nvidia control panel for vsync

Didn't add any noticeable input lag? The stuttering is a bit annoying, but I wasn't trying to fix it by myself because I'm really really happy at how responsive it is given it's 30fps.

Owners: 21,796 ± 3,511

Is that good for the first 2-3 days of a game?

Pretty sure it'll explode very soon. The game's quality will speak for itself, and word of mouth should make this huge. By the time it comes out on consoles, all the cool kids will want to buy it.

What's my best bet to "recharge"? Is there somewhere in the town that I can refill my life container things?

Your actual health or the health packs?

Only way to get more health packs is pick them up again after the reappear. You can go to a different area and find some more. West and North areas are pretty easy to find. Then you can teleport back home.

You can go to a teleport pad and it'll refill your health points.

I meant the packs yeah, makes sense I guess. Still working on east and not coming across too many.

Thanks for all the 30 FPS reviews. I just ask because I tend to get dizzy with this kind of stuff but want to play this so bad. Might just wait til PS4 release since it might be less jarring on a TV with a larger gap. Appreciate it all!

I'm in the same boat.

Anyone got hints?
You mean the 4th corner piece?
You don't need it to fight the boss.
It's actually impossible to get before boss.

Just felled the West boss. He's down along with the East boss. Heading North next.
Haven't gotten all the triforce pieces in each direction yet but I figure I'll do another pass later. I have 5 in the east and 6 in the west.

Just beat the east
area in full I think? Boss down, got the fourth diamond piece
. Think I might call it a night after a fun and successful first session :D

Having trouble figuring out how to reach the two purple markers in the West area near the warp spot

This took me f*cking forever to work out. Now I'm trying to think of an effective way to explain where they actually are.

I'll see if I can get some helpful screenshots. My ultimate strategy was to just check the map (as in the underlying one that shows connecting paths) everywhere I went to get a sense of which rooms connect to which.

EDIT: Okay, here's some help for the upper one:

• First, find the room in the picture marked (1)
• Explore that wider area until you find yourself in the section shown in picture (2). Take the elevator down.
• You'll find yourself in the area shown in picture (3). Explore thoroughly. The purple diamond piece is on a somewhat hidden path towards the upper right of the area.
• Picture marked (4) just shows your position on the map once you arrive on the elevator.

There's one, maybe two health packs in the area immediately east of town for a quick grab if you want some before you set out.

If I remember correctly,
go through the door with the 3 corners right below the east warp point.
Thank you, I was being silly and convinced myself both remaining doors were 4 stone ones.

Was caught off guard with all the quiet and symbolism but this is what I've always wanted.

A thing I really hate about the game: my controlling scheme choice never sticks.
Every time I boot the game up, I gotta go and change it to KB/M. Annoying.

Also, I've been reading that east is easy? I went east as my first and I got rekt hard. Basically took me 5 hours to manage to get to the boss and beat him (he was easier than the rooms with 2+ of those big plants things).
By comparison, getting to the boss of the north side took me 40 minutes.
Is east really easier? Me sucking? KB/M being ultra shitty? I'm not sure what to believe.

FINALLY finished the Dash challenge. It felt like it took 50 tries, but it was probably less than 20.

Putting it to music really helped me out. I put on some headphones and played this song on loop, which was the perfect tempo for the A presses. I kept choking around the 700's, though, My second try, I got to 746, then couldn't get any higher than 400 for the next few tries. I eventually got it, though, which is the important part. Anybody know if the items you get are purely cosmetic, or do they have any actual advantages?

Has anyone done the 8 piece dungeon on the west side?

Let me know if it's worth the trouble. It's ridiculously tough for me.

Grats, man! I did the same thing, I felt like I'd actually run a marathon after.
The purple cloak
does have a use. It doubles your Stamina/Special meter. So your Charged Attack or chain dashes have more uses. It's cool as hell.

So I heard people saying earlier that some of the alt equipment (sword/cape/flying robot buddy) have stat advantages/disadvantages - does anyone have a list of what those are?

So far just two I think.

Pink: Recharge stamina faster (maybe)
Purple: Double stamina (confirmed)
Green: Extra health point (I guess confirmed?)

I can tell you one of them is hard to find because it's treated more like a secret in Super Metroid. I was annoyed when I figured it out.

In #2, there is a locked door down and to the west in that same area. What unlocks it? Is that how you get to that yellow piece int he #2 picture?

So the language has basically been fully deciphered and all the tablets translated, here's a codex for anyone interested.

I didn't want to spoil myself so I didn't look those up, but I did translate the shop signs in town for the hell of it if anyone's curious:
Sword Master, Dash Arena, Weapons (Gun upgrades), Tech Shop (Bomb upgrades), Apothecary (Medkit upgrades)

Not sure what the sign says by the key door in the bottom right of the town.

I can't figure out how to get this 4th piece in the North area. It's the piece that is nearest to the central hub city. I have spent too long looking for it myself.
I am currently where I would assume it is. It is dark and I can hear blocks hitting walls but I can't do anything in this room. wtf do I even do now.

I think that you need to unlock the first dash ability. I assumed the animation meant it was a jump so you could leap over the blocks, however it's something else that's really useful for traversal and movement in combat.

I saw it, really really cool! Deciphering this kind of stuff is not really my cup of tea, not to mention I'm not capable of doing it, so it's really nice to have this codex to read the monoliths and stuff I find. Got two of them so far.

I find it a bit too much, to be honest, since the messages aren't explicit at all, they're still quite vague and just give you some flavor to help you figure out by yourself what's going on, so making the actual reading difficult is a bit overkill. That being said, we do live in a post-internet world, so it's not that big of a deal, if anything, it's great that it's there for people who do like to figure out that stuff.

This game is so damn brilliant. Still didn't fight my first boss though, maybe tomorrow! It's hard to say anything for sure after only ~4 hours, but I'm feeling really good about this. Can't think of any game besides Bloodborne that I enjoyed more in this generation so far.

It's what lets you chain dash, use your sword techniques, etc. The meter is above your HP and Health Packs.

Without the Purple passive, you only get two sword dashes, but with it, you get four.

Is that the purple cloak from the dashing room?
