Hyper Light Drifter |OT| We On A HyperLight Beam

Hit a wall. Literally. Cannot figure out how to get past this part in the north. There's also some things West that feel like i need to be able to drift farther than i can and I dont see what power-up lets me do that...

Anyone have advice for this part in north though?

Those things only open once
you've killed the boss of the zone signified by the arrows

Just beat the north boss and that was INTENSE. I died a lot at the beginning and managed to survive the second phase by sheer luck; had no health items left managed to get the last few hits before it teleported away did a whole squares attack sequence. Whew, THIS GAME.

Which direction do people recommend starting with? Ive seen a few people say North, is that where I should start?

North and East are both pretty easy (relatively speaking).

Man I cannot beat 39 dashes on the challenge, every time I hit 39 I run into the wall like an asshole.

North is the most straightforward in terms of exploration, but East is a bit easier and will give you an upgrade that is very useful as the game progresses.

No, you fall off. The game apparently doesn't consider it walkable ground. I keep trying to dash to the corner but it never quite works.

I was stuck here for a bit. Your see that tree on the lower left? There is prompt to show invisible platforms near it.

I just beat it but I am shocked how easy the last boss was. I struggled on the west and north boss but the last boss was a cake walk

Theres an elevator at the beginning of the East route that I cant seem to go down yet.

Also is there a way at the hub to get back to full health? Or rather get you healing items full?

So I'm in the south which is my last area, but I don't want to defeat the boss there if it ends the game (I'd like to find some more keys/doors first). Does anyone know the exact point of no return?

You will know and it will let you load before the last fight even of you beat it. so you have nothing to worry about

Nearing the end now, and the game really grew on me over time. Initially didn't enjoy the game as much, but the world is so intriguing. Heavy Shadow of the Colossus vibes.

Had some performance issues on the eastern portion. Couldn't play for more than 20 minutes before getting dizzy.

My theory on the story:

Long ago, the four sentient races of the world defeated giant invaders. (Maybe with mech suits? Looks like there are several of these broken down in the world and it looks like they've been there a long time.) Since then, they've built up technology and eventually joined forces, harvested organs from the dead titans, and tried to use them to harness the power of the world.

But their technology got the best of them and they unleashed something that they didn't intend to. At the same time, the Drifter is summoned, either by the same effect that unleashed the Evil on the world or by a higher power.

The Evil started infecting the remnants of technology left over in the world and used it for power, ultimately infecting the big power core at the center of the town where the final boss resides.

The Drifter is an extradimensional being or something like an angel, so his presence in the corrupted world immediately infects him and makes him sick, weakening him.

The dog is God.

Zelda + Ys

+ Souls + A teeny tiny dash of Ninja Gaiden: Black

I really don't get all the Ys comparisons. Sure, the Ys games are more actiony than Zelda, but they're so much more forgiving and mash-heavy than Hyper Light Drifter.

Argh, cannot find the 8th tri piece in the north zone. I'm also wondering how I get across here, in this bit just before the bird boss?

There's a hidden passage along the left wall between some of the bookshelves.

Thank you! Still no final tri piece, unfortunately... Does anyone know if there's a way to open these pillars, on the left (at the end of the long series of small platforms a small way before the bird boss). I feel like the final piece has to be around here somewhere...

Couldn't agree more.

My first impression is that this is the mature serious 2D sci-fi Zelda game of my dreams.

Thrilling stuff.

Definitely! In fact, it's made me think of most of my favourite games in an hour: Journey, Souls, Metroid, even Fez and of course the more mature take on Zelda. I love how games seem to have got to a point where something as polished as this that caters to all my tastes can be released and have barely been on my radar. I saw a trailer about a year back and now how we are...

Bullet bosses.
Have you played Oath in Felghana? That game gave me more trouble that Hyper Light Drifter.

The best part about it is that while it incorporates elements of all of those games, I don't view it as a rip-off or rehash of any of them. It definitely brings its own unique spin to all those aspects. The biggest concept that it takes wholesale from another game is the language stuff from FEZ... but I choose to think of it as an homage.

I have all the pieces in the north and never opened that. Been using these map screenies as a hint as to the triangles' general location, they've been very helpful.

I'm struggling with finding a way into the isolated underground area in the east, near the submerged giant. I can see the entrance if I use the rifle, but no clue as to how you get there.

Ah, gotcha. I've played Origin, I + II and most of Oath (up to the final dungeon) and didn't really make the connection until now.

This is my favorite game in a long time. Since Link Between World probably. Every time I think I've hit a wall and need help, I realize I am dumb. This is best kinda game that is hard and requires thought but everything is achievable.

SO FUCKING GOOD.

Beat the 4 bosses and I'm now looking for all fragments and nodes instead of finishing it. So many boxes that I can see but not reach, damn.

Will the multi-dash upgrade allow me to cross larger gaps? I'm doing the eastern area first and I've already found three or four upgrade boxes that are just out of reach.

If I had known this I never would have drafted you.
You probably have to look for invisible platforms, an activable moving platform or a hidden path.

In regards to the buffs from different costumes. You actually only need one piece from an outfit to get the power. For example, I just have the Sword from the Dashing outfit and it gives me the buff. Don't need to wear the cape.

So essentially, if other outfits gave buffs, you could have three running simultaneously.
That's... pretty awesome. I've been running yellow cape/red sword/default bot and sometimes switch to purple cape/yellow sword and didn't notice any difference.

Any way to get rid of the stuttering? On my monitor its not that bad but on my tv it's getting really annoying

This happened to me before, don't know if you're having the same issue but check the TVs framerate in the Nvidia control panel. Mine was set to 59 so I got a lot of stuttering and tearing.

It's at 60hz. Hopefully RivaTuner will help. If not I'll just play with my monitor I guess. Looks so great on my plasma though

Edit****RivaTuner fixed most of it. Runs pretty smoothly now.

Best settings for me are limiting to 30fps with RivaTuner and selecting application settings in the nvidia control panel for vsync

North boss is so fucking random its making me hate this game. There's no pattern to what he does and it seems like now matter how much I move he spawns that glowy shit right underneath me and I can't get away.

patience.

There's definitely a pattern.

Definitely.
Homing Pattern -> Escape Dash -> Cross Pattern, occasional telegraphed projectiles and trash mobs. Something like that at least.

It definitely has a pattern

1) Homing trails
2) Teleports around + Cross shaped attacks
3) Goes to center, calls in vultures

The attack evolve as you whittle down its health, but follow that same pattern

Guess I'll give it another shot later. I need a break. Maybe it will be one of those times I come back and beat it first try.

Choked on 626 dashes and now I've titled off the face of the earth.

edit: just got it, wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. Stopped after 1000 dashes

I got 686 earlier today and haven't gotten close since.

Are all upgrade boxes obtainable without special upgrades or gear?

I can't get the hang of the multi-dash at all, even when using that keyboard and mouse trick it's far too finicky.

It doesn't help that my spacebar rattles and my 360 pad's A button is wearing out, but I think I must have no sense of rhythm whatsoever.

Owners: 21,796 ± 3,511

Is that good for the first 2-3 days of a game?

Considering there has been very little coverage so far on the bigger sites it seems pretty good I think? Hopefully when more reviews come out the number will shoot up.

I hope the game ends up being wildly successful. I love it so much. It is an incredible achievement.

Looks like a bunch of areas that were Kickstarter stretch goals never made it in, like the Broken Shallows and the Burning Caverns. I know stuff gets cut from games all the time but's it still disappointing to hear. =/

It's weird at first, because the second dash needs to be at a slower speed than the third one does. After that, they're all the same but going too fast knocks you right out.

I'm sure you have had it described to you elsewhere, but know that it's tricky until it clicks.
