Hyper Light Drifter |OT| We On A HyperLight Beam

so i beat all 4 bosses , have 4 keys for all areas EXCEPT the west. i assume i need that 1 last one to progress the story. how can i get ONE of these..? i've been trying hours...

I can tell you how to get to the right one.

If you go north from the warp platform you get an elevator into that prison like area. Play through the area like you did first time until you reach the place with the 6 prisons on the right part, The Top right prison got a swordsman enemy in it. Enter it, and you should be able to move through the wall of the right side of his cell.

The game really makes it hard to choose since you gotta work for the upgrade chips so this helps a little. Thanks!

No probs! I've quizzed fellow Drifters in this thread a bunch of times on what to buy, so I feel your pain.

Any thoughts on how people think this will play on Vita?

Should be really good. The only controls that won't directly translate are LB and RB, but those could easily be on some of the unused d-pad directions or the sides of the touchscreen.

I'm loving the game. Wish there was some flavor text though...the bosses don't have much context when they just charge at you without explanation as to why they're there.

I really have no idea how I take so long to beat games. People finish the entire thing in 4~5 hours on their first playthrough, without rushing anything. I'm 2.5 hours in, didn't encounter a single boss yet.

This happens on every single game, and I have no idea why. It's not like you can farm in this game or something for me to be wasting too much time on this.

You just like being in the game's world a lot more than most :)

I've gotten context for the boss when I come across a fellow drifter or some other NPC who gives three or so painting frames as a cutscene. Especially the South bosses where the
crocodile people show that they were guarding the research lab when the bosses burst out of their beakers
.

So, what the hell are these yellow things I keep collecting? I've got three complete ones now, and am totally missing what they do.

I've been calling them Gold Chips. They're currency for buying upgrades at the five shops (two shops for moves and one for health pack slots at the north edge of the town and one shop for weapon upgrades and one for grenades at the south edge).

Just like Undertale, another 30 FPS Gamemaker game, I'm getting an awful judder in animations every second. Anyone know how to resolve this? It looks especially bad when the whole screen is scrolling.

Been enjoying this overall, but I do have couple of minor gripes.

The main one is that the enemies blend in with the background/don't stand out that much, so it makes it difficult to track what's happening sometimes, and the way the screen moves when your character moves is a bit too distracting for me.
ALSO: Falling off ledges and losing health is such bullshit. What's the point, really? It just makes the game so much more frustrating.

Yea I get the same thing though not all the time. Seems to be fine one minute then it will trigger because of a slight frame rate drop or something that puts the frame pacing out of whack. It's really annoying but these sorts of issues basically never get fixed because of how difficult they are to diagnose.

My only hope lies in the console versions to be released later this year.

Did you start west?

We have investigated the possibility of a 60fps option. This is a HUGE endeavor, and would take months (three at minimum) of labour to retool all the systems that are dependent on frame timing, to make major optimizations to the game so it runs on all the same machines it does now. This is no small task for us.
Anyone know if they're actually working on this, or is this basically them saying it's too hard to bother with?

So I purchased the HumbleBundle preview+bonus pack (art book, wallpaper, blah blah blah)
Does anyone knows where can I download that content? I've already redeem my steam key and my game is working, but I can't find the bonus pack thing. In the humble bundle claimed page I only have a link to download the game :(

Please help

Played 30 minutes, and it's pretty much everything I'd want from a game combines into on package. Still haven't quite got a sense of the structure...

Couldn't agree more.

My first impression is that this is the mature serious 2D sci-fi Zelda game of my dreams.

Thrilling stuff.

Try windowed mode, some people said it fixed it for them.

It sucks to play on windowed mode, though.

The point is actually to make it less frustrating, I think. It's just that you're opposing losing health when falling to losing no health when falling, try to imagine an instant death when falling, now THAT would be frustrating.

Did you start west?

Nope, gotta chase dat dog.

Reads like 'no' to me.

Which is unfortunate, because had they coded the game logic based on time instead of frames (something Game Maker can definitely do, the 'time since last frame' value is built-in and called delta_time) it would be as simple as changing one number.
As a game developer, this seriously irks me. It's 2016. Multiplying your movement speeds by delta_time and entering them as pixels-per-second instead of pixels-per-frame is so, so simple if you take it into account before you start programming.

Finished my first playthrough in about 12 hours. Didn't get all the secrets at all, guessing it would take substantially more time. Had a blast of a time nevertheless. Felt hard but fair and the game just keeps piling on secrets so I just gleefully keep exploring and finding new stuff.

Will probably replay. I launched a new game+ and I have a nice
black cloak
but also only 2 pips of health...considering bosses and a lot of ennemies take out 2 straight up I don't think new game+ will be for me, even though I like difficulty. But i like a margin of error :p

It sucks to play on windowed mode, though.

It does fix it, and yes it does suck. I asked the devs for a borderless window option since that would fix it, but not sure if its even possible with this GameMaker engine (meaning I literally don't know). They released it barebones and there's already been three big patches, I think. Hopefully its a priority for them now that other problems seem to be addressed.

Finished today. Really great game, though there are quite a few bugs here and there (mostly areas which shouldn't be accessible, ground tiles which shouldn't act as pitfalls, etc). Went North, West, East and South. Game was hard, but fair. I was expecting a slightly longer game though, and while I really enjoy Disasterpeace, I found the OST to be somewhat absent/lacking in some areas.

Also, the 30FPS lock kinda hurts the game.

Just did some testing, and it looks like the NPC drifter's pink gear set doubles your bullet charge rate.

I'm going to get everything now. This is too cool to pass up.

Also, given that each gear set grants you a certain buff, I'm thinking you should always mix-and-match to get the maximum benefit. Let's get some Hyper Light Fashion up in here.

Just finished, not 100% but it took me about 10 hours here. Explored a lot, got most of the upgrades except the last health pack slot. Only collected about 3 costumes.
I'll probably do a complete run when the PS4 version comes out. Great game!

Can anyone offer me some newbie combat tips (even just general tips), or point me towards a post that has some? I'm struggling a bit with the rhythm of the combat, maybe I just suck.

Western Boss is kicking my ass. Can anyone give me any tips?

I keep getting hit by the second swing from his double slice. I keep thinking that I'm dodging out of the way, but he turns on a dime and leaps way farther than I'm expecting. It's also a case of me not having enough health, because the only health items before him are surrounded by tons of enemies and I keep having to heal from their bullshit.

Here are a few tips for new players (note: the skill names below aren't the official names as far as I know):
  • You should unlock "Chain Dash" as soon as possible (A+A). This ability is mandatory to travel through some dangerous areas, allow you to dodge boss' attacks more easily, and you can just use it as a way to move quickly while exploring. The only problem with that ability is that the timing to trigger it reliably can be rather tricky. Be patient and experience it until you get the timing right.
  • The "Shield Dash" ability is also very useful early on, since it allows you to dash through projectiles. This ability will allow you to close the gap between yourself and ranged enemies, especially when used in conjunction with Chain Dash.
  • Alternatively, the "Counter Slash" allow you to throw back enemy's projectiles back at them, which is very nice, especially if you run out of ammo. Sadly, it isn't as reliable as the Shield Dash, and you need to aim correctly in order to send back the projectile towards the monster (and when you are trying to dodge other stuff, it can be an ordeal). Do note that this ability will come in handy in some situations or against some bosses though.
  • The "Bomb" (R1) is a very powerful upgrade, which can clean a group of mobs very easily. It does have a huge cooldown, but if you use it right you will find yourself having an easier time dealing with a lot of enemies in confined spaces.

Nice. For some reason I feel like this will be my next favourite portable game. Just seems like a good fit for a small screen.

I just bought this on GOG and holy maccaroni it looks and sounds awesome.

But tbh. I have zero ideas what type of game this will be after ~30 minutes.

Choked on 626 dashes and now I've titled off the face of the earth.

edit: just got it, wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. Stopped after 1000 dashes
