Gathering more triangle pieces, I'm at 26 now.

If you think the game was too short and you beat it with around the bare minimum amount of pieces, you miss out on a ton of content by not going for all of them. This is because there are areas devoted to each piece. Bunch of new places and even minibosses that are just as quality as everything else.

Agreed

Just beat the 8-Piece Dungeon in the North Area and it's so much FUN. It's a great challenge and felt so satisfying when I beat it.

I think I'm done with the North Area, now heading West to find that least piece and finish that Area's dungeon.

Oh damn, I hope that's true. I wonder if some capes are just aesthetic difference and some aren't, because I can't tell anything from the ones I have. I'm guessing the familiars and swords have no difference.

Also I snagged a white cape and orange sword, feeling fly

Can confirm the Dashing outfit (heh) does double your Stamina. Can do 4 Dash Charges instead of 2 now.

Are there 8 triangle pieces in all 4 zones? Because I found 5 in east which was a odd number

I take back what I said about the chain dashing.

You have to go very slow for it to work.

I was able to get to 103 chains and it was also necessary for me to get the
gold
cape.

You can also find a pair of
giant eyes, encased in tubes and still functional
in the south.

Man, I bet there's a lot that I haven't seen given that I've only found 2 keys and 3 monoliths. I don't want to burn myself out for the Vita version so I've been holding off on exploring.

Console Versions

PS4 and Xbox One are actively being worked on by the fantastic Aaron Melcher. These will be out as soon as possible (likely this summer). We want to make sure they're in great working shape, and timing on release is dependent upon how quickly any kinks can be ironed out between the different hardware and the more ambiguous submission process with Sony and MS.

Vita is also being worked on, though this is a platform that requires a fair amount of optimization; it has a tiny sliver of memory to work with and a slow proc. This port is also likely the most costly, since we have to get extensive outside help. It won't be cross-buy due to how much later it'll be out than the PS4 version, though we are looking into cross-save.

Wii U is still in limbo, though we are getting closer to a resolution on this. I will keep everyone posted as we know more.

To bad for cross-buy

I'm at another shopping crossroads, so few questions for the enlightened:

• The second Grenade upgrade - does it shorten the cooldown, or just give two grenades before cooldown?
• Are either of the A-X or X-A moves worth bothering with? Of the three remaining options I'm thinking the dash shield looks more useful.

I've got four gold chips to spend, so there's some latitude there. Wondering if adding some extra ammo for my shotgun might be the way to go. I've already bought a fourth health pack pip, so I think I'm all set on those.

- Gives you 2 grenades
- I much prefered A+X, the move where you press them together and not A then X. I enjoyed using it, the only downside is it takes up almost half of your stamina. It's pretty good for crowd control.

This game is great. Bought it without really seeing much on it at all and I'm really impressed. While it doesn't have the puzzle design of a 2D Zelda, it's absolutely a perfection of what the action components of those games could feel like, if they wanted to push it harder. Really gorgeous too.

Also just want to add that the refill ammo via slicing random stuff is genius. The compulsion to slice every patch of grass in lttp and the like has always been there, now there's even more legitimate reason to do it and I even find myself hitting some midfight just to get ammo for the tricker enemies to approach.

About the secret nodes: they don't show up in the map right? Going to start looking for them.

They show up after you acquire them. Basically every area the drifter NPC shows you 3 (maybe 4?) I believe and you have to find the other 5.

-It gives 2 grenades, and you can cooldown one you've thrown while still having one in the inventory.
-Personally I like A - X more, you can bounce enemies into walls or other enemies for bonus damage (and it hurts the enemies they run into). I'd say it's my favorite ability in the game. You can't go wrong with ether, I'd take both of them over dash shield. Dash shield only felt like it came in handy when I was fighting a bunch of enemies with turrets in the mix. This is assuming you have the bullet reflect skill first though.

Shotgun ammo upgrade is worth it.

Thanks for the tips guys! Looks like A+X is a lock, though the shotgun ammo vs second grenade might be a tough choice. Leaning towards shotgun ammo, but I'll cross that bridge once I've got enough gold chips.

That sucks that they took out manual rolling of the grenade from the beta. That was so rad, throwing a grenade and roll it directly to enemies instead of guesstimating.

Man it is so God damn annoying that you cannot transfer saves across PC's. I have been having a blast playing at work but now it is the weekend I cannot continue.

There is no way I am starting over again.

Is anyone else getting a crash after picking up with 4th fragment to the east near the flamethrowers? Error mentioned something about flamethrowers...

Whew, West Boss is down!
Easiest so far actually, only took me about five tries
(though I was down to one or two blocks of health and zero medpacks). In the end, it came down to rushing in and slashing wildly hoping that he went down before I did.

With three Bosses down Steam is saying 11 hours, which goes to show how much variance in play time you can get depending on ability and method.

Man, I just need 1 more node for the East area...and I have no clue where to look for it,lol. Anyone found all of them yet, for the East anyway?

Are you playing it on Steam? I hate it when games do not allow this.

I wish steam would just have universal cross save and play, including with Macs.

Just loving this game. Its so beautiful. I wish more games looked and played like this. Sweet sprite games.

Always loved sprite based games so much and are the games that always catch my eyes the most. Seems more conducive to good gameplay and certainly looks pretty and artistic.

In regards to the buffs from different costumes. You actually only need one piece from an outfit to get the power. For example, I just have the Sword from the Dashing outfit and it gives me the buff. Don't need to wear the cape.

So essentially, if other outfits gave buffs, you could have three running simultaneously.

Yeah, but it is not even the lack of cloud saves. I have the save file backed up online but the game just out right ignores it because this machine has a different UID.

Getting a handle on chain dashing is fun. Trying to do the 800 dash achievement now. So far have managed 256. I'll give it another go when I'm not half asleep. =p The thing getting me is misjudging the turns doing it in the training room. I'll get in a groove but bonk into the wall eventually.

Two questions: First, for the 8 pieces in the North, is there a piece behind the key door (I think its 10 keys required) in the village part way up? I have 7, not sure where the last is...

Second, how many dashes are required to get the cape in the dash room? It's not the full 800, right?

Just "beaten" the game. As previously mentioned, I suck at games, and I don't actually think Hyper Light Drifter is too hard - certainly not to beat, at any rate. I don't think I'll ever be able to collect everything as I can't seem to master dashing in more than one direction, but I'll certainly consider getting some of the remaining gubbins.

Key things for me were:

i) Buy the upgrade that absorbs bullets when you dash through them so you can pick off difficult enemies at a distance - I found this much more useful than the deflecting bullets back at people, but then that's because I spent most of my time dashing.

ii) Take things steadily. Every move is telegraphed and every bad guy has a pattern, rather than a set of attacks they can cycle through at random. Learn the pattern, learn the cue for each attack, and then it's relatively simple to avoid.

I've had a fantastic time with Hyper Light Drifter. It's beautiful (I love the music, incidentally, unlike many here), controls very smoothly, and is just all round fun to play - one of the best games I've played in a long time. I wasn't even a backer!

So I saw a pretty good trick for beating the 800 dash challenge.

-Unplug your controller and switch to m&kb
-Go to the dash challenge, put your character near one of the columns of purple recharge tiles
-Put your cursor on top of the middle of the tiles so that when you press spacebar to dash across, he automatically goes back and forth through the tiles without having to move the mouse.
-Mute the sound and just listen to the rhythm of yourself tapping the spacebar, keep it constant.

It took me a second to get acclimated with dashing on m&kb, but after I did I got it pretty much in a single try. Went up to 1001 just for the hell of it.

So I got all Diamonds, Monoliths, Keys, and I currently have 8 costumes. Anyone know how many more costumes there are?

Also, I could've sworn that I saw a 16 key door somewhere, but I can't find it anywhere. Anyone remember where it was, or was I just imagining it?

Nice job! I think there's a 16 key door somewhere in the South but I may be misremembering.

Not sure how many outfits there are, but there's 12 slots.

The game is pretty dope so far, but it's kind of a bummer to see how much of the stretch goal content was cut. Makes me a bit apprehensive to back anything else they'll do. I will buy day one if they'll do another quality game, but I propably won't back it while enticed by stretch goals.

That being said, it's one of the best games so far this year and the art direction is mega on-point.

where did they talk about cutting stretch goal content? did they make a kickstarter post about it?

See Stoze's comment above- good tip!

Ah, a trickster method ;)

They do mention it on their kickstarter page: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1661802484/hyper-light-drifter/posts/1534048

I mean, it's not a super big deal because the game is not content starved or anything and I love the game, but as far as backing something on kickstarter I think I'll take a wait and see approach.

This is genius. Took a moment to get started, but easily bashed out 900 after that.

How people are accomplishing this without using exploits is beyond me.

Damn,.. having got the dash gear reward I'm still not able to change capes in NG+ :(

Are you supposed to be able to? I thought the point of the black cape was to reduce your stats and prevent you from getting any of the bonuses the other capes provide.

Has anyone completed the game with the alt (girl) drifter? Curious if it's different content wise, but I'm not eager to start a fresh run at this point. I dig her playstyle though.

What's a good sword upgrade? I got the chain dashing and was eyeing the sword thrust in the dash abilities, but can you do that from dashing or do you have to do the input while stationary?

The thing about that is that you can use the other elements of gear (sword, bot) and so still get the buffs. Restricting you to the black cape would just keep you from equipping three buffs, while also making many of the rewards in the game less... rewarding. Of course, the challenges themselves are the main point, but it's nice to know that you'll get some sort of new outfit at the end of them. And who doesn't like wearing natty new capes?

I'd definitely go with the charge-slash, I've been using it constantly since I bought it. Doesn't take long to charge, hits in a nice wide arc and can take down lots of foes in a single hit.

The sword thrust is pretty neat too. You basically just tap X immediately after tapping A to dash and the dash will end in a sword thrust. It throws enemies back quite a way, and anything (or anyone) they hit will cause them damage and also deal damage.

The game really makes it hard to choose since you gotta work for the upgrade chips so this helps a little. Thanks!
