People always tend to bash stuff they don't understand or they consider 'unnatural' .. Whether it's something pop-culture, or something really personal like a sexuality or gender identity. All it takes is a little understanding, putting yourself in someone's else's shoes and try and look at things from another perspective. What I got from this essay is your understanding of 'waifu' culture and whatnot. I appreciate that you were able to look back and realize you were wrong, or just a bit ignorant. That is an important lesson you can apply to many things in life.
So a disagreement against pop culture, sexual preference or gender identity is a fault of the person that does not agree? What kind of fuxked up way of thinking is that? If you agree with it that's your path to take. I definitely do not have some type of problem if I disagree. Tired of this aggressive bullshit against folks who just don't want to have anything to do with certain lifestyles. If someone is bashing him they yeah they can be spoken to but we can disagree.

Certainly an interesting thread. Nothing wrong with that per se. I'm not sure who HolyBaikal is and I thought he might have died when I began reading your post, but I'll trust your word that he's a good guy.

I will admit that I didn't read your entire two posts, but I read about 83-85% of the first post and I definitely accept your apology. I don't like JRPGs myself, and I don't really know anything about the "waifu" stuff other than being familiar with the term, but I like am glad that you became one and have become more accepting of other ones.

DISCLAMER: English isn't my native language and my grammar might not be the best. I tried, and therefore no one should criticize me.

First post:

- Opening paragraph about OP's thoughts on NeoGAF poster HolyBaikal and the purpose of the thread.

- HolyBaikal has been banned and it troubles OP (for reasons we will get to later).

- OP has been judging fans of anime and the whole "waifu mentality" and feels guilty for doing so.

- OP played Ar Tonelico: Melody of Elemia and not only liked the game, but opened up for the the culture that he/she had prejudices about.

Second post:

- Summary of the story in Persona 3.

- OP has his/her own interpretation of the ending and doesn't want us to ruin it.

- Thoughts on characters. OP has no definitive favourite and likes the whole cast.

- Talks about the social links in the game. Especially connects to the character Maya because of having played an MMO him/herself and having similar experiences with socializing on the internet.

- General thoughts about the gameplay. OP likes the combat and fusion/collecting of Personas in the game. Loves the artstyle and music. Wants to replay the game in New Game+

- Didn't play the epilogue "The Answer" because he/she didn't want to ruin the ending of the base game.

Questions at the end:

- Which games by NIS America, Banpresto, Gust Co. Ltd and Compile hearts should he/she check out (and other similar games)?

- Asking for VN recommendation.

- Should he/she look further into the other Persona games and Atlus games?

Final words: Want to change to an anime avatar. Expressing gratitude for people who read the whole post.

Some might say so, but I think it would be a touching show of dedication to the ideology of cuteness.

On the face of it all, I come off as messed up in the head, and I should seek psych help, but we all have facets and as such here is one of mine. No one in real life even knows this about me, I just needed to open up.

In real life, you'd never know I like this stuff. My room is plain and empty. I use normal wallpapers from my computer and have normal friends who drink/party and hang out. I wear normal clothes.

It's a bit upsetting people ripping me a new one for being a little honest with myself.

(Post not aimed at you).

Well, that was longer than I expected. I did read it all however. Honestly though if you liked persona 3 that much you could even look into getting persona 3 portable for your PSP to play as the female protagonist.

Persona 4 is a no-brainer to get though. I don't own a Vita so I can't tell you how much more golden added, but I played the ps2 version (which you can get as a PS2 classic on ps3) and had a lot of fun. Persona 1 is available on PSP as well, and so is half of Persona 2, with the other half being a PS1 classic on PS3.

You also mentioned looking into the other SMT games, and yeah they are worth getting into. Do note however, that they don't have the same sense of style as Persona 3 does. That isn't necessarily a bad thing, just don't go into them expecting the same sort of high-school drama and relationships as in persona 3. They do share similar mechanics such as the fusion and emphasis on hitting enemy elemental weaknesses though. Well, the digital devil saga games don't have fusion, and the raidou games are real-time action instead of turn-based... but still you can see the similarities between them all. Nocturne is your closest bet if you want a similar battle system, albeit a slightly more complex one. All the PS2 SMT games are available on PSN for PS3, so that should make it easy if you want to play them.

Anyways that is about it, can't really help you with your search for some VNs, the only ones I have played have been on the DS/3DS so unless you have a couple hundred bucks to spare I would look elsewhere.

I do have to admit though, I honestly thought that someone had died at first.

In Jeff Goldblum being chased by t-rex voice: "Must be parody, MUST BE PARODY..."

In the spirit of Holy, I think that this thread is really just filled with a lot of meanies.

So is this the HolyBaikal payoff? Has everything been building up to this?

I would love for this to be the case. Much easier to rationalise than Holy and OP being the way that they are. Always thought there was a strong chance that Holy was just a really dedicated troll. The male vs female strength thing was pretty persuasive evidence.

AngryJoe is very pissed off that you're stealing his spotlight. Just wait for the video rant.

The very best thing about this thread. That and the gifs.

I braved the storm and read the whole thing to give everyone the breakdown they want, but I'm not sure I'm on the plain of comprehension that would be required to do so.

Omg I actually tried to read this to see why someone is apologizing to NeoGaf. But gdamn after awhile all I read was holybakai bakai holy bankai! I started to have images of bleach. I got 1/4th in. Going to try to finish it after a break.

(When I was a shy Junior/lurker) I was surprised at many things, but the most important being the way you spoke/typed and the logic you used. I’ll be honest (the entire point of this thread) with you, the first time I read your posts I was confused and even slightly upset/agitated that someone could think the way you think, but fortunately for me, I no longer think this. It took a while for me to realize this, but after reading your past threads and posts I came to the conclusion that I was missing something vastly important in my own life. Well, saying I was missing it is wrong, I guess the best way to describe it would be is I never didn’t have it, but I believe I “locked” it up and “it” is kindness, cuteness and the moe of all life.

The strength of heart required to face oneself has been made manifest. Arcadius has faced his other self. He has obtained the facade used to overcome life's hardships, the Persona HolyBaikal!

Thanks for this, I know Persona is different that other SMT games, I'll keep it in mind if I want to play them, thanks again for reading.

I suppose if one were to make a tribute to HolyBaikal, an insane attention seeking thread is a fitting way to pay homage to his posting style.

Sorry OP. I dont think most (almost all) of us are being malicious. Just some good natured ribbing. I dont think you need psych help, the guy that said that was out of line.

It's Ok OP!

everyone has the right to proclaim a waifu. Some even have claimed husbandos.

as long as you maintain a proper expression of your interests, everything is peachy!

Lol all these images of Moe from The Simpsons are killing me

I know that's not what people were actually referring to when they said moe but I'll accept it anyway

NISA's got you covered.

About Ar Tonelico: Melody of Elemia
Ages ago, the world was like any other. But, two apocalyptic wars changed
everything. The sky has been sealed off by a deadly electromagnetic field and the
ground is now an ocean of death. Humanity lives life peacefully suspended above
the sea on continents powered by the magical tower of Ar Tonelico and protected
by the knights of Elemia. However, evil is lurking upon humanity threatening the
peace and balance of Ar Tonelico.

Key Features
-Moé
-Interactions among characters reveal more depth of each character
-A new and unique “Song” battle system
-Virtual interaction with mood shifting characters
-Customizable weapons and items
-Over 300 creatable items
-Stunning animation

What is Moé?

Moé has become one of the most popular words among Japanese “Otaku”. Various
definitions of Moé have been presented. However, it seems like each individual give
different definitions to the word.
Here is what NIS America sees in the word, Moé:
Moé is used when a person expresses his/ her feelings of adoration, admiration, and
love toward fictional characters, which are unreachable or
unobtainable. Moé is a combined feeling of innocence, purity, and naïve. This
feeling is often non-sexual. A good example is if you could remember the feelings of
your first love when you were young, those pure and indescribable fluttery
feelings. The Japanese Otaku tend to have that innocent love and adoration
toward videogame characters, and Ar Tonelico: Melody of Elemia contains many
characters that embody those feelings. Interestingly, each individual may
describe Moé differently from others; some might say it is sexual, some might not. NIS
America would like to represent Ar Tonelico: Melody of Elemia as a game
that recreates those innocent feelings once again.

:/ Just read the final part then

Snip

First off, thank you for that. Seriously.

OP, put this in the first (er, second :p) post at the end?

As for your questions-

1) I can recommend NIS games like Danganronpa, but I don't think thats what youre looking for
2) As for a VN recommendation? Come join the people over at the http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=927445, theyll get you sorted out fast, and probably have more expertise on the topic than most in here :3
3) Persona 1/2 play VERY differently from P3/4
Check out 4 (probably golden) for sure. If Slinks are needed for your enjoyment, skip 1/2.
