I Agree With Our "No Politics" Rule - But the "Blame Video Games" Angle Is About to Heat Up

My apologies if this is in violation of our "no politics" rule, but ever since yesterday's incident happened, I took a look at the 20-something year old shooter lying dead, and thought to myself, "They are going to blame video games for this."

I hope I'm wrong, but I fully expect that one of these investigations will reveal that the kid is either an avid COD player and/or that he has platinumed every Hitman game. Then, every tired old "murder simulator"/"violent games cause young guys to kill" line-of-thinking will be explored ad nauseum.

And, it has already started. This profile of the kid describes that "In the family's hometown, one of Thomas Crooks's former classmates at Bethel Park High School said the suspect did not show any particular interest in politics. Rather, his interests centered on building computers and playing games, the 20-year-old classmate, who asked not to be identified, said in an interview."

If anything, the state of today's politics means video games won't be blamed as much. Why blame video games when you can point at your political opposition? The fact that someone played video games is a footnote compared to what political party he belonged to, which organizations he donated to and all that other stuff.
