Many people here have known my dislike for Radiohead. But the last week I gave them another chance and they were pretty much all I listened to.

Genius. Great music, all around. I mean, I'm not sure what I was waiting for. Kid A is by far my favorite, and it's great. But everything they have is spectacular.
I used to hate Thom's voice, but I can like it on soooo many tracks.

Paranoid Android and There, There are some of the best songs I've ever heard. I used to say Idioteque was their best song...now I see it as a gimmick.


I apologize Radiohead fans for giving you shit. I was 100% wrong, and I am sorry for it.

They're not Tool, but Radiohead is still godly.
 
OK Computer's my favorite, but I'd say Kid A and The Bends are equally great behind. Except for Fitter Happier, there's no song on this album that I would ever skip when my mp3s are on random. That's saying a lot for me. One of the best albums I own, Beatles included. When I discovered Radiohead 8 years ago, my ex-girlfriend loved em and I hated em. Afterwards, it became my favorite band (although I'm not sure this is true anymore). That's probably the only thing I can tell that my ex got right in life. Radiohead ROCKS.

"There There" ended up at #2 or #3 on my list of favorite Radiohead songs -- it's kind of overlooked, IMO. "Idioteque" is godly live, though.

Was Idioteque a song they played on SNL once? Don't think I ever saw it, but I'm pretty sure I've heard of it though. Out of all the fucking SNL reruns I've seen, you'd think I'd have seen it by now...

I agree with this post. I saw Radiohead twice in concert, and Idioteque is always a riot.

Yeah, they played it live on SNL. I was completely fucking floored when I saw it happening live, and every time I've heard it in concert(four I wanna say) it has been equally incredible. The album version lacks the extra gear they kick it into when Thom sings "Ice age comin, Ice age comin".

As far as coming around on Radiohead, everyone does sooner or later.

Is there a video/mp3 of the snl performance anywhere? Or any live performance of it for that matter?
 
again, just to clarify.....i love Idioteque. Only Radiohead song I truley loved for a while.

But it's great. Music, lyrics...everything. It just clicked =)

But I wouldn't call "Idioteque" gimmicky by any means, maybe musically it's a bit of Radiohead taking the piss (the song title is a REALLY terrible pun :lol ), but the lyrics are some of Thom's best.

Actually, it's on the eight-song live mini-album that Radiohead released after Amnesiac. Although the live versions of five of the songs are merely OK, that album is a must-buy for the other three songs:

1) The live version of "Like Spinning Plates" is stunning...to the point that I can't even listen to the studio version anymore. The whole singing-backwards-then-tape-reversing thing on Amnesiac was interesting, but the nakedness of Thom singing "my body floating down a muddy river" over piano is profound.

2) It's the only official release of "True Love Waits." I think the song is overrated, but it's a good thing to have in the collection.

3) The live version of "Idioteque" captures the manic energy pretty well, IMO.
 
need help, i just saw a show on mtv about radiohead and they played a song i dont remember the song but it has these words in the song title.

it was great! but i have every CD with radiohead and that song is not on any of their albums..does anyone know on what CD i can find it?

It's called True Love Waits and I'm pretty sure it's on their "live" album IIRC.

I was looking for it yesterday but couldn't find it at Best Buy, so today I'm heading to where I know I can find it. I wanted it for the live Idioteque recording which is supposedly much better than the studio recording, but I'm sure there's some other good stuff on it as well.
 
radiohead are the best, I don't GET some of there really sad/melancholy stuff though.

Songs like sail to the moon and I will just bug me to the point of not listening to them. Go to sleep, Where I end and you begin and especially there there are the greatest. Hope they have a new CD coming.

I really wish they wouldn't keep ignoring New Zealand I would love to see these guys live. Probably would travel to aussie for it as well.
 
Yeah, I love Radiohead. Also used to dislike them, but it just sort of clicked with me one time about a year and a 1/2 ago.
 
yeah, me too. not last week, but i finally "got" radiohead very recently. cant pick out specific tracks yet, but i like OK Computer and Kid A a lot. OK Computer so far seems more cohesive and better to me.
 
The Bends is my favorite Radiohead album followed by OK Computer. I don't care for their other albums. Sorry :(
 
I still don't have any of their EP's. :( I have them all downloaded, but in the stores they're always selling for some outrageous price, like $25. >:(

And I'm almost embarrassed to say that I actually really liked the tracks on the recent EP that came out after Hail to the Thief, the Com Lag EP. Pitchfork gave it something like a 4.0 and slammed it for being tuneless glitch-pop, but songs like Fog, Gagging Order, and Paperbag Writer are just too sweet to not like. :)

So er, yeah, Radiohead kicks ass. Glad you came around. I miss my Thom Yorke avatar. :(
 
Radiohead is indeed the best. I'm stuck on "A punch-up at a wedding" at the moment, but I really like pretty much everything they've done (including some of Pablo Honey, but of course the later albums are better)

I Might Be Wrong EP is fantastic. Like Spinning Plates really floored me the first time I heard it.

Idioteque is one of their best songs IMO.. far from a gimmick. An awesome beat, and really cool lyrics.

Definitely get the My Iron Lung EP. One of the best b-sides CDs I've ever heard. If it flowed a bit better, you would think it were a regular album.

I agree. I fuckin love the beat in Idioteque. Especially when it really kicks in at "Ice age comin.." in the live version.

There's a lot of good stuff. The live version of idioteque is indeed amazing, the title track (I might Be Wrong) is also fucking excellent, but the highlight, IMO, is Like Spinning Plates...it's amazing. Just piano and no voice modulator. When True Love Waits is also a very nice b side on it.

Yeah, I picked it up a few hours ago and spent 45 minutes or so driving around listening to it in my car (cuz it's my best speaker setup). Lots of great stuff on there.
 
Again, what i meant was , Idioteque was the ONLY Radiohead song I liked. It was nothing like their "normal" sound(if you wanna call it that), and I really dug it.
I still do. But now after hearing everything of theirs, it just seems like a gimmick in so much that it's out of place when you compare it to their other music. ...but gimmick is the wrong word to use, apparantly =p
 
I absolutely love Let Down; after many listens to OK Computer it eventually became one of my favorite Radiohead songs. I love how the melodically it's so complex and ambiguous and takes a while to appreciate and 'get'. And it's funny how musically it's, well, "bright" as tripping put it, in stark contrast to the depressing lyrics. One of those songs that, to me, truly makes Radiohead 'Radiohead'.

Agreed on that. I was just listening to that song before entering this thread actually, and what's equally amazing to me is how it builds itself up after falling into practically nothing, at the end of the "middle" section of the song. Most bands would've just left it at that, but that climax is obviously what makes it stand out to so many people. :)
