I just found out skipping tutorials is common in gaming. Do you? Why or why not?

Do you skip tutorials?

It depends. Some tutorials are so fucking stupid and pointless that I'll skip. Like I don't need a tutorial to tell me how to make my character walk forward with the left stick.
Yeah what they need is cumulative tutorials that you can access at any point and it goes through the mechanics you should know by now.
I don't need an opening tutorial level where it has me duck under a tree and then jump up to a ledge.
I need a tutorial mid way through the game that tells me to press x to attach the laser hoist to a surface then press y to start unspooling the monofilament wire then press x again to attach it to the next surface then go into my inventory and grab the electrobooster go to the original laser hoist attach point before pressing y to attach the electrobooster to the laser hoist and then walk to the other attach point and place the activation switch then press x to activate.

I'm all about tutorials. I also really like it when they have a video to show what skill or whatever does when executing them

I skipped the tutorial in Dark Souls 3 because it was the fourth damn game with the same controls.
Then I hit a wall against a certain boss, because I didn’t know you could unleash a special attack with certain weapons.
My cousin still won’t allow me to live it down.

Tutorials are a chore, but a necessary one. Some games have gotten just too complex and you may never learn about a certain basic skill if you skip the tutorial.

Depends on the game and if i have played similar ones or not.

But something like Balatro needs something better than the one it already has.

I think games should be intuitive enough so you don't actually need one. But I seldom skip and I think games are getting pretty good at weaving the tutorial into gameplay.

The Dungeon Of Naheulbeuk however really tested my patience. It never stopped.

If I’m familiar with mechanics then I skip the tutorials but if I’m not then no I won’t skip them.

Yes, for most games, but it depends. Most games just have a known mechanic, so tutorial is not needed.
Than there are games like factorio. I tried it without tutorial but that wasn't good. A few tutorial-"missions" later I got the basics and had fun with the game.

So games with a bit more complicated mechanics, I use the tutorial. ... Or games that tell the story while playing the tutorial

And hell a tutorial in elden ring for the UI/controls and some mechanics would have helped to reduce frustration in the first few hours.

I also roll my eyes whenever a fucking tutorial pops up.

Also never read manuals.

Only read manuals when my skill level is lacking
or i could fuck up shit real good

It gets a bit grating when the tutorial is filled with super-valuable information like "To move to the right press the analog stick to the right" etc.
So yeah, as soon as someone starts to feeling a tutorial is more patronizing than helpful the reaction comes by itself.

Also, unskippable tutorials are a crime against humanity. No one wants to be locked in 15 minutes of forced slow walk-and-talk followed with the most condescending explanations. Especially on a second playthrough.

A well-designed game doesn't need to force you into tutorials.
this so much!
I can't remember a good tutorial, like ever. They usually dump a load of stuff onto you, in some well intented but desperate crash course manner and most of it you don't need for hours and then when it matters you naturally don't remember the compressed info which was barely repeated/executed enough times. Fighting games are the worst. Not a single one does a good job of really training me into a knowing player. Tutorials should be build in game: "Here this is the new stuff, we force you a couple of times to use that mechanic or combo, so you get the idea and actually memorize it before we drop the next bit and we than know that you will know how to crawl when you need to crawl. After that do as you like nd omit some parts if it doesn't suit you." if the game allows freedom some stuff can than never be used but there should never be a instance where you have to do something that is barely explained way too early together with a ton of other crap.

Been gaming for 4 decades. It's rare that don't know or can't figure out how something works.
Till I would say early 2000s that was 100% the case especially when talking about PC-centric games. Those manuals were hundreds of pages for a reason.
