Never played Ridge Racer, but the OSTs are GOATed. Especially Type 4.

I played the Wipeout HD remaster or whatever it was that released on PS4/PS5. It was really fun.

Liquid drum and bass still sounds futuristic today.

One of the reasons I decided to invest into the Wii compatible GameCube as it allows you to experience F-Zero again, which still looks good for a 2003 release, and plays well too

Yeah I miss them too. PS3 and 360 both launched with a quality Ridge Racer game no less. Vita launched with a piece of shit RR, but a great Wipeout. I mean, Namco could easily release RRV on PSS, or uprez RR7 and/or RR6. They do nothing with it.

With Wipeout I felt Sony actually did a lot. They did bring Fury and 2048 to PS4 and even PSVR. Its 4k/60 so it also looks excellent on PS5. PSVR2 update would've been nice, but the thing is dead.

I just wish there would be a new F-Zero for Switch 2.
Never played a Wipeout, though.
I could never get into F-Zero. I think it's because I couldn't see it as anything other then a Wipeout clone as a kid as PlayStation was my first console so I wasn't aware of the inspiration going the opposite direction.

I miss Blur, MotorStorm, F-zero. Too many arcade racers that will never come back.
OMG yes. You're forgetting Split Second as well. That game was amazing unless you play the PC port.

I'm shocked when an game came out on Nintendo 64... And then it was a major IP for Playstation.
It came out for Saturn too.

It was a weird time. Sony owned Psygnosis, but multiplats were ok. They even did tons of PC ports.

Psygnosis must of had in their contract they do what they want for years. Or perhaps at that time Sony was more lenient on multiplats and if they could make some cash on competing console or PC thats ok.

I loved the OG Wipeout on PSX, I knew that first course inside out. The first climb and sharp angled drop man.

I got the wipeoit HD collection and it never hit the same. Even 'blur' was a better homage to WipEout.

First 2 are the best, though I felt 2048 was in a way an attempt to recreate this experience.

Wipeout 2097 (XL) and its predecessor have this nature sci fi hybrid setting. HD just looks very clinical, which was more in line with the PSP games. The tracks of the first games are also excellent and memorable. I can probably ace all tracks of XL still. For some reason the demo included Gare d' Europa which is like the hardest track in the game lol, i practiced that one a lot.

Why they didn't have the team that produced the excellent Call of the Mountain simply work on porting VR1 titles over and adding in VR to other titles is beyond me... Fecking Sony, I know they have to run it as a profit maker but c'mon taking the hit just to increase games and marketability would surely be worth it in the long run ffs

Sony should pre install an arcade port of Ridge Racer on all their consoles.

At 4k@60, of course.
Or at least return to the neat tradition of having a Ridge Racer game available at the launch of a new PlayStation generation.

If they make the right call now, they can have Ridge Racer 8 ready for PS6's arrival in 2028 🚬

Because 95% of Sony's PlayStation VR games didn't break even in lifetime sales, per the Insomniac leak. Same reason as to why they also stopped funding indie and AA games from their incubators over at Santa Monica Studio, San Diego Studio, XDEV Europe and the Japan Studio; because most of them not only failed to bring back a return on investment, but also had anemic lifetime revenue figures, along the lines of one to two million dollars -- truly pathetic numbers and a total waste of producers, publishing, QA and localization staff.

Arcade racers are my favorite and I also miss getting games like Wipeout and Ridge Racer. I'm very grateful that there are indie devs out there that still put effort into making them.

I really miss the original three games WipeOut, 2048 and Wip3Out 3 but I didn't vibe with the PS4-release WipeOut Omega Collection at all.
It might be my rose-tinted memories messing with me, but the stage design and the gameplay in Omega Collection really felt off.
I can really feel how popular a properly made reboot could be. I think the stages needs to be a bit longer.

The industrial/future of the 90s vibe is my preference as well.

You spelled "Psygnosis" wrong! Still hate Sony for what they did to them...
I get why you'd feel that way. Psygnosis did do some great stuff back in the day. I'm a PS guy though. That's why I see them as Studio Liverpool.

Which reminds me, I need to check out Shadow of the beast on PS4 some time.
