ohhhhh I don’t know man…. I feel like if you were there on day 1 you’d always think of them as Psygnosis. That logo kept showing up in Electronics Boutique Sony demo reels on 14” CRT televisions all over the store. That name was synonymous with the launch of the PlayStation brand. Sony was insane to change the name afterwards.I get why you'd feel that way. Psygnosis did do some great stuff back in the day. I'm a PS guy though. That's why I see them as Studio Liverpool.
Which reminds, me I need to check out Shadow of the beast on PS4 some time.
Been playing a lot of Wipeout 3 on ps1 lately. There is something about the ps1 versions that the later ones just didn't capture. They nailed the feel of the hovercrafts back then and tweak it too much after I think.
This is not emulated. It was ported from the PC version of the game and is a native x86 application in this iteration. You’re absolutely right.
Wipeout Phantom Edition on PC is worth checking out. It requires an image of the original disc (from any source) and turns ir into an incredible remaster experience on PC. I play it on PC and Steam Deck all the time.

Oh and your reply is TOTALLY off-topic, not 'somewhat'. Merely mentioning another port of another game is not relevant at all. Cheers.
Or maybe you didn't like the new graphicsI really miss the original three games WipeOut, 2048 and Wip3Out 3 but I didn't vibe with the PS4-release WipeOut Omega Collection at all.
It might be my rose-tinted memories messing with me, but the stage design and the gameplay in Omega Collection really felt off.
I can really feel how popular a properly made reboot could be. I think the stages needs to be a bit longer.

I never said it was emulated
What is your problem?

I miss Wipeout. I miss Ridge Racer. I miss cutting edge console showcase arcade racers.
If you’re like me. Close your eyes, listen to this and imagine what we can’t have.
This made me audibly sigh.

(Edit: this is not anything official, or a new game - it’s just a remake of the intro video. It’s very nice though)
Isn't Firesprite essentially Liverpool since it was founded by mostly ex Liverpool talent?Closing Liverpool and Evolution was a mistake. I hate modern Sony.
I kinda knew that, if it ain't making money it's a waste of resources but as I said, they should've simply accepted a loss making studio in order to keep the titles flowing but yeah I know thats not how it works, it's sad as the best experiences I've had as a gamer are when we where introduced to 3D polygons with Resi Evil and Tomb Raider and when I first played VR games, Resident Evil 8 and Astro Bot where absolutely game changing in VR and you simply cannot replicate it on a flat screenOr at least return to the neat tradition of having a Ridge Racer game available at the launch of a new PlayStation generation.
If they make the right call now, they can have Ridge Racer 8 ready for PS6's arrival in 2028
Because 95% of Sony's PlayStation VR games didn't break even in lifetime sales, per the Insomniac leak. Same reason as to why they also stopped funding indie and AA games from their incubators over at Santa Monica Studio, San Diego Studio, XDEV Europe and the Japan Studio; because most of them not only failed to bring back a return on investment, but also had anemic lifetime revenue figures, along the lines of one to two million dollars -- truly pathetic numbers and a total waste of producers, publishing, QA and localization staff.
Same hereI miss Wipeout. I miss Ridge Racer
You and I would have got along man.XL is my favorite racing game of all time. I still have my PSX disc with the black underside - used to play it in my car all yhe time back in the days.
While other kids were having Xbox lan parties playing halo, me and my buds were playing Wipeout multi-player with the link cable.
not after the wipeout ps3 fiasco. scum , pure scum.
"Modern"? All of that happened like 20 years ago, bro.Closing Liverpool and Evolution was a mistake. I hate modern Sony.
Not weird, PS2 only had Fusion which straight up sucked.I love WipeOut so much it’s unreal. But it’s weird that it only flourished on PSX and PSP. It’s of a time and place.
Uhhhh the PS3 game was Pure(and pulse) redone in HD but not the whole game, they only did some tracks.Yeah … not sure why you dislike but there was some art magic in the first 3 that were missing from the subsequent ones. Played and enjoyed the PS3 game but doesn’t hold a candle to the PS1 entries. I’m not a Fusion fan.
BUT… Pure had its own special vibe and I do love that one.
Already exists, it's called Dangerous Driving by Left Field Entertainment (founded by ex-Criterion staff). They were working on a sequel wich was later renamed Wreckreation, but no news since...All I want is a new Burnout modelled after Takedown.
No open world. No need for licensed cars. Just track and route races with massive destruction.
A man can dream....
Pure had its own vibe , soundtrack, etc. The first game since Fusion too. It definitely had a vibe all its own. Same tracks on ps3 or not.Uhhhh the PS3 game was Pure(and pulse) redone in HD but not the whole game, they only did some tracks.
Wipeout 2097 \ XL had Red Bull ads all over it. First time I ever noticed an ad in a video game myself.. and I had no idea what Red Bull was at the time.Did RR and Wipeout even have real car makers and ads?
Would Ridge Racer and Wipeout do better if they had this? Although I dont know if any car makers would even lend their name to spaceships flying circuit races.
Yeah, it was the best racer on PSVR and in VR it was a whole new game. The fact we don't have a PSVR2 port of Wipeout is hurting me deep in my soul.
Wipeout for PSVR is one of the greatest games ever, it's so good!
The cheating AI ruined that game.Man I miss Motorstorm so much. It was so good in 2007. The lack of arcade racers now really shows you how much the industry is in a sick state.
Downloaded!! That’s awesome man.Incidentally I just rolled out the first release of a game I’ve been working on for iOS and Android which may scratch your itch.
