Anybody have experience in selling an old PC? I've been thinking about just scrapping my current build entirely, and starting fresh. (It's about four years old.) Any tips or suggestions?

Here are the specs:

Core 2 Duo E4300, X1900GT, 2GB DDR2. Runs great, I've never had any problems with it. Just wanting to upgrade, though.

Any idea how much I might be able to get selling a build like that? I was thinking something like $200 to $300. (Just the tower, not the monitor.) I'm not sure if that's too conservative of an estimate, or too high of an estimate. Also, where would be best place to sell it? I'm thinking Craigslist, since I wouldn't have to deal with shipping or anything.

I wasnt so lucky with my coolermaster mystique, unfortunately. :( I had to "breadboard" my motherboard, and now its sitting on my desk with the 6950 on it.

I also have been hearing around the webs that the 6950 can be flashed to the 6970 bios, but it can damage the ram or some shit like that.

6950 RAM isn't rated to run at 6970 speeds. Just flash the 6950 to the 6950 + unlock shaders BIOS. Manually overclock the core, but don't touch the memory.

I just sold my 6 year old Mac G5 to get some cash for my new PC. Sold it on ebay, got $270ish for it which included $60 in shipping fees to Fla. This was a 50lb beast of a tower too. I double boxed it and sent it UPS ground with insurance + signature confirm. The most difficult part was finding the appropriate size box to ship in. Just gotta be careful with who is bidding on your items and you should be okay.

I also sold my PS3 on ebay and had multiple scammers trying to bid on it before I cancelled their bids. Ended up selling it with no problems at a decent price.

Fractal Define, easily. HAF 922 if you need cooling for some extreme overclocking and SLI. HAF 912 doesn't really compare. It's a fantastic budget case ($60), but really doesn't compare to the better $100 Define or 922.

Ah I see, the only problem left is that asslong cards like the 6990 don't seem to fit.

First off, putting a 6990 in a Fractal case is a bad idea. In fact, getting a 6990, period, is a bad idea. It's a pretty terrible card.

If you're going for a big SLI/Crossfire rig, get something with better air cooling.

Yea I reckon it's a bad idea putting the 6990 in that case. Although the choice of card was just an arbitrary big card.

Sounds pretty good. If I was able to get at least $200 from it, I'd be happy. I think I could probably get $300 or so from it, though.

The thing about ebay is there is no guarantee that your item is going to sell for what you want it to. Research other items that have sold that are similar to what you are selling and see what the demand is and what the going rate is.

Sorry if this isn't the right place for it, but I couldn't find a dedicated Mac thread. I'm looking for a new computer to run basic video editing programs and play some games on. I was looking at the Apple’s Mac Mini MC270LL/A.

I basically know very little about computers, but it has gotten good reviews, and was wondering if anybody here could vouch for it.

F***********************CCCCCK!!!

My nephew spilled drink on top of my haf 922 case ( that was running because i was downloading stuff ) When i came home my sister told me when i got to the pc it was broken.
My 470 is gone ( was going to sell it to go 6950CF ) motherboard doesn't react, neither does the cpu.
So i have to get a new systeme, can you guys help me.
I wanna go for the 2500K because i dont think the difference with the i7 is not that big for gaming.
All other components are undecided. I do want to run either sli or cf so i need a motherboard that has 2x 16x i was thinking of this one http://tweakers.net/pricewatch/271659/asrock-fatal1ty-p67-professional.html#tab:prices

I need a cpu cooler.
a new motherboard
new ram
new power supply
and videocard.

They didn't...turn it off? Sorry, bro.

The kid is 2 almost 3 years old, so he just stood there, it wasnt untill my sister came to look for him that she saw that the pc was smoking and it had a burning smell.
Im just glad my HDD are still good and i can put them in my next pc, because they are more important for me than pc components.
But yeah it def sucks =(

So I see NEWEGG has some blu ray drives for 15% off. Looks like a lot of them are OEM (hit or miss with software for playback). Is there an easy solution for that if I pick one up?

Sammy 12x bdrom for 59 bucks seems a good deal.

True. For right now, I can rock just one 580. Later on, I can get another 580 for alot cheaper.

one 580 will kill everything on one monitor, probably even mulitple monitors.

Are you kidding me? the difference between a 580 and a 6950CF is 30+ FPS
the difference between a 580SLI and the 6950CF is almost never above 10FPS thats a lot of money for 10 FPS also you would need a good 1000W supply

Anyhow can someone help me with building a systeme.
I need a realy good cpu cooler.
the best performance from sli or cf under 600
a good powersupply
and a motherboard that supports sli or cf and has 2x 16x slots.

I've had my new pc for a day, and it's great. So much better than the old thing I had before. This is what I got:

CPU: Intel Quad Core i5 750
GPU: Gigabyte nVidia GTX460
MB: Gigabyte GA-P55M-UD2, P55
RAM: Kingston 8GB
SSD-disk: Intel Postville 80GB
Harddisk: Samsung 1TB 7200RPM
+ my old harddisk, a 750GB Samsung
Cabinet: Nexus Clodius
PSU: Corsair TX 650W
Diskdrive: Samsung Blu-Ray Combo 12x

Also got Windows 7, Windows Office 2010 Professional, Adobe Master Collection and a Wacom Bamboo Pen & Touch tablet.

Question: Windows 7 and all the Office-programs are installed on the SSD, taking up half of it. If I install the complete Adobe Master Collection on it as well, it will almost be full. Should I install those on one of the other hard-disks instead? I love how quickly everything opens up from the SSD, but I have a suspicion that it cannot be smart to completely fill up the drive used for the system itself. What do you people think?

Question 2: I got Outlook with Business Contact Manager, and also have them at work. Is it possible to share and synchronize all the business contacts on those two systems, even if they are not connected locally? I've tried tinkering with database-sharing, but cannot find out how to do it. I can link them up in OneNote, but that's easy since the data is stored online.

So basically get 1 580 GTX, then later in the year get new mega Nvidia card and use 580 GTX for overkill physX card?

Seriously 580 GTXSLI is barely better than 6950 CF?

What's the easiest way to update my BIOS? Everywhere I read says its a risky thing to do... even the Gigabyte downloads page.

So paranoid about this. And I have to do it because i'm having usb audio problems.

The download came with 3 files: autoexec.bat, p55aud3.f11, and FLASHSPI.EXE
Am I supposed to put these on a USB drive and reboot?

Help me out, GAF. My current Hard Drive is out of space. I'm considering getting an SSD-HDD combo to replace it. But! I have an OEM version of Windows 7 Professional. Will I be able to deactivate that license and reinstall Windows 7 successfully after the drive upgrade? Or would I need a new OEM copy of Win7?

So brand new SSD, Brand new GPU, clean install of Windows 7, and still, shitty BSOD. Then, whenever I turned it on, massive hangs with hardly anything loading. Was driving me mad and then...

I press eject. Out pops the HL2 disk and wham, instantly all my windows, programmes etc open. My drive was taking ages to load up files on numerous disks prior to installs as well, including Windows 7 from boot, which took about 10 minutes before the Windows install options even popped up!

So I guess the question is, is it because my drive is dead/dying, are one of my connectors borked or is it just enough juice isn't getting to the drive? I have it daisy chained to other stuff (fans, other things in the PC etc) so maybe that's causing problems?

Any ideas as to what it could be GAF?

Contemplating on which case to get. Really liking the COOLER MASTER Elite 430 because it's pretty long, almost 20", should fit a nice big video card in there, but only comes with one fan so I'll have to buy another 1 or 2 case fans.

What do you guys think?

COOLER MASTER Elite 430 - $50

There must have been instructions. Link to the page?

Only supports 2 case fans though...would that be enough?

I do like that it's pretty long so I can fit a big video card in there.

Edit: Wait, I guess it supports more fans on the top, it looks like?

Doesn't Gigabyte have a utility you can use to update in Windows? If not you need to make a DOS bootable USB drive and put those files on it. If you boot from it the autoexec.bat file should launch the flash utility and then you can follow the instructions.

I think you can use this utility. http://www.gigabyte.com/MicroSite/121/tech_a_bios.htm

On the left side of the page you linked is a thing that says "how to reflash BIOS?"
Just updated it with @BIOS thanks guys. Easier than I thought it would be.

My brand new Razer headset was crackling/popping so I thought i'd try updating the bios. I've concluded that its a problem with the headset itself and i'm going to have it replaced by warranty. Done spending 2 days trying to figure it out.

I moved to the Antec 300 when I needed to install a longer card (it fits the 6950). Sells for 60$. Looks pretty nice. Maybe that is something you would want to look at as well.

Comes with 2 fans. You can add more.

My new mobo (MSI P67A-GD65) has something called the "OC Genie" button which automagically overclocks the proc and memory to appropriate memories.

I'm assuming this is kind of a useless compared to a real overclocking setup, but I wonder if anyone here has any experience with it, good or bad..

You will need to call Microsoft once you get the OS installed on a new drive and enter the product key. It will probably say this disk is installed on another computer, call 1-800...
If they ask just say you upgraded your hard drive.

So I just started Mafia II. Can't believe how smoothly it's running. Max settings, SSAO, 4xMSAA, 16xAF, everything else on the highest, V-sync on, PhysX on highest etc and I think I've probably only (so far) seen the frame rate drop below 60fps once? And even then that was by like 2fps lol. GTX 570 SC at 1920x1200 here.

Kind of wish the visuals were even better. Don't get me wrong, they look brilliant. But I wouldn't say no to some more tessellation, netter lighting and deferred rendering!

Also, love being able to tab in and out of gameplay without even a pause thanks to the SSD drive. This would have been murder on my old mechanical drive lol.

My wife's cpu speakers/headphones were crackling/popping...

Bad audio card. Replaced it and it was fixed.

SO is having windows on a SSD and all my games music etc on a 7200rpm drive a good or bad idea?

Depends. I have RAID traditional HDD for games and SSD for windows and it's pretty damn fast. Probably still benefit a bit from the SSD because directX binaries are with the OS.
