Damn. Just when I thought I had my system stable...

Now I'm getting all kinds of random BSODs. Anything in particular I should be looking for in a crash dump for narrowing weather or not my OC is causing it?

Also having this strange issue with my G510 keyboard once windows loads up. It works fine in the bios but once windows load the keys are not responsive. Even the LCD screen buttons work but the actual keyboard will not until I un/replug it.

I originally budgeted for an i7 and a 670 and decided to go for the 7970/680 when I went with the i5 and found the motherboard for $40 cheaper than what I was expecting.

Considering I'll only be using one monitor at 1080p, I think I'll go for the 670 instead and just keep the money I'm saving.

Thanks
7970s were the same price as 670s last I checked.

If you end up going for the 670, definitely get the two slot ASUS DCII.

More volts! If too hot, then you just need to dial back the OC. I still insist on a good remount with solid TIM as well as a possible switch up on your fans. Running the stock H100 fans? Not H100i, correct?

USB issue is normal with logitech stuff.

Testing with more voltage now.

I only have AS 5 at the moment. Any paste you would recommend?

Keyboard issue sucks. Never happened before.

Using some noctua fans.

So on new years got black out drunk for the first time. Fried my logitech slim illuminated keyboard with puke lol. Got a blackwidow open box as a replacement for 45 bcks. Is it a decent keyboard? Anxious to get my first mechanical :)
It is a good 'un.

AS5 is good enough. When you tightened the block, did you do so in a cross cross pattern? Not tight enough? Too tight?

Might have neglected to do exactly as instructed. I'll be sure to do this time. I usually just dot the middle with the paste and spread.it evenly with a plastic.bag.

It's increasingly going to depend on what you have and what's available. CPUs haven't had a huge increase in speed since Sandy (2011). Intel has no x86 competition and is focusing improvement on power efficiency. Even once they decide to improve performance, Moore's law is going to start slowing down soon.

I probably shouldn't need an upgrade, but I am pretty green when it comes to PCs. Click on this to see my current CPU.

Got my Sennheiser PC 350s yesterday and have been breaking them in a little for the past day. I love them.
I havent used them for voice chat yet and have just been using them as headphones but they already sound better than anything else I own. Comfy as hell too. They cover my entire ears and put no pressure on the actual ear, which is a problem I always had. I wear glasses so that always caused them to hurt after a while. These are perfect.

Thanks gaf for convincing me :)

**Problem Resolved: Lots and Lots of abuse made the PSU fit**
Hi All,

I am trying my best to fit the Seasonic M12II-Bronze 620W into the BitFenix Prodigy and I am having no luck. I will continue to try to fit it, but does anyone have any suggestions on

1) How to fit it by doing some cable consolidation? Right now, I am using the PCI-E 6P, PCI-E 8P, Serial ATA, and plus the main line cables . Off the main line section I still have 2 ATX 12V 4P free. Any converts out there to change those into either the PCI-E 6P and/or PCI-E-8P?
2) If I can't consolidate more and get it to fit, does anyone have suggestions on good quality PSUs that have a smaller depth, yet can still support the following system and allow overclocking. The M12II-Bronze 620W is W160 x L150 x H86 mm.

CPU - Intel Core i5-3570K 3.4GHz Quad-Core Processor
CPU Cooler - Corsair H60
Motherboard - ASUS P8Z77-I Deluxe
Memory - Samsung 8GB DDR3-1600
Storage – Samsung 840 Pro 128gb SSD
Storage - Seagate Barracuda 1TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive
Video Card – Gigabyte 7970
Case - BitFenix Prodigy (Black) Mini ITX Tower Case

Just want to make sure these three are all good before I order. I've had my current PC since like mid 2009 I think and even then was basically mid-range stuff. Techreport had the CPU and mobo pairing as a recommendation and the RAM is closest I could find, I haven't really been keeping up with things so just went with that.

Intel Core i5 3470
ASUS P8Z77-V LK Motherboard
Corsair Vengeance CML8GX3M2A1600C9 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3

I'm keeping my 4890 for now and will upgrade graphics later in the year, but my old X2 550 3.1ghz is struggling pretty bad these days.

I will let others comment on the mobo, but you may want to consider the i5-3570K, since it has an unlocked multiplyer for overclocking purposes. This is the generally recommended processor around here for gaming.

Also, check and see if you have a microcenter store in your area. They are running a good sale on the i5-3570k, so it is actually cheaper than the one you posted. Plus if you buy the cpu with a mobo there, you get an additional $40 off.

Seriously. Why don't I live by a microcenter. Fry's does deals--pretty good ones, but doesn't do them like Micro center, it seems.

I'm in Australia, and that site is basically the best there is, and no one does CPU+mobo deals here as far as I'm aware.

I didn't go for the 3570K since it's $40 more for the chance to do something easier that I may never do in the first place. Maybe I'll switch to it though, depends on how I'm feeling when I go to order sometime this week.

Upgraded from:

i7 920 2.67ghz
GeForce gtx 5700
6 gigs ram
Win 7 64bit

I've basically replaced every component right down to the mouse pad.

Should I get a decent enough performance gain?

You should be quite pleased. I'd try to find some money to add an SSD as an OS drive though. I can't believe I lived as long as I did without one...

Very glad you like them! If you find the bass lacking, Google 'pc-350 hero mod'. Worked wonders on mine as well.

Ahh, I heard of that mod.
Im a little leery of opening them up and modding so soon (especially while under warranty) so Ill hold off a bit and see if my opinion changes. Thanks, thought :)

So I have a pretty old system, Quad Core Q6660 @2.4GHZ, 8GB of Memory and a ATI HD 5770, and a friend is willing to sell me a 7950 for $100. Now will I be able to see a huge increase in performance playing @ 1920 x 1080 on a 24" screen or will my cpu be too much of a bottleneck.

Get a third party cooler and OC your Q6600, that 7950 for $100 is far, far too good an offer to miss out on.

You'll see a huge difference. I have a Q6600 and saw a noticeable difference when I went from 4850 to a 6850 - and then a huge difference again when I went to a GTX570. You're certainly going to bottlenecking the GPU, but you should see an all around improvement. Go for it, that's a good deal.

Thanks for the help that you guys gave me. Here is my current planned build.
Is there anything I'm missing, even something small? Like the random cable or thermal paste or ANYTHING?

-I dropped from an i7 to an i5 because I've been told that the i7 would never give me any performance increase in games. I don't know why I've seen developers put it on their high-end PC requirement lists then! Ah well.
-I've read that this cooler is difficult to install. I don't like difficult, but it shouldn't be that hard.
-I really want 16GB of RAM. But I can always add it later though. I suppose that there is no performance hit running four sticks as opposed to two?

RAM wise you can upgrade later if you need to, and there's no performance hit from running 4 DIMMs.

With regards to your 670, the ASUS is around $20 cheaper http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814121637 or there is the Gigabyte at $10 cheaper http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814125423 - Just a few other options :) they are slightly lower clocked though.

2 gb 6950.. Upgrade to 670/680/ or 7970? What's the best bang for the buck
Well the 7970 seems like the obvious choice(if you are going for a single card). It's equivalent is the GTX680 and that's a pretty big price hike compared to the 7970. Unless you really despise AMD drivers, the choice is clear imo.

What resolution are you gaming at and what's the rest of your rig?

Rest of your rig looks solid, have you looked about unlocking your 6950 to a 6970? Might help tide you over until the new cards launch, but they could be 6 months away (at worst yet).

If you are wanting to upgrade now I'd look at either the 670 or 7970, with my own personal preference being towards the 7970.

7950 is also a good buy too, AMD has things priced pretty well atm.

It won't have changed if you couldn't do it then.

If you're going 7970 just get whatever is best value, they almost all OC well past 1GHz on stock volts anyway.

This Sapphire one is pretty good value for money but the free games promo seems to have dried up which is a great shame http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814202008 as the 670 still offers 2 free games with it http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814125423

I'm installing Windows 7 to my first SSD and am wondering if their are any tips I need to know. Unfortunately this Crucial M4 is on a SATA 2 board for the time being.

I have AHCI mode enabled in the BIOS. Do I just install windows to it normally?

I have heard Intel Rapid Storage Technology App can improve the speed, is that true?

Also I have only reinstalled Windows 7 once so far, Is there anything I need to do as far as unregistering it or anything, or can I just format the partition and then reformat and install Windows?

Thanks!

If its a fresh install your golden, windows 7 will detect it and take care of most things for you. You may want to move or limit the paging file and turn off hibernate (use googlefu for tutorials) depending on the size of ssd and how much ram you have.

any suggestions for a gaming keyboard that is sub $80?

how are the razer mechanical keyboards? i'm seeing mixed reviews.

I'm pretty much looking for a decent keyboard that is good for Starcraft 2, WoW and BF3.

Blackwidow is great. It's just that the switches are MX blue which take a little longer to get used to when you are coming from membrane keyboards. I would suggest going with the CMStorm Quickfire Rapid with red switches if you all want to do is game. Blues are great for gaming once you get used to them and also a dream to type on.

For that price you should be able to find a 660ti on sale for 20-30 more. It would be worth the extra money. I'm not a fan of the evga cooling solution this gen either. MSI or Asus are worlds better.

I have a rudimentary question so apologies if this seems like I'm having a blonde moment. I merely am curious as I will be upgrading to a new MB and basically transplanting my SSD/HDD combo over.

Will I be able to plug it in and it just work on a new MB? I'm sure there will new auto installs on drivers for the new HW on the MB but will it just work or will I need to install Windows again? Or is something recommended over the other?

I can actually do a backup on my data HDD if need be but I would rather know things will be smooth instead of just piecing it back together so if that means new OS install then so be it.

660 is kind of a bad part. I'd really advise the 7850/7870 over it, or at least the 660Ti if you can make it work.

If not, then get a 660 with a quiet cooler such as the ASUS DCII, Gigabyte Windforce, or MSI TwinFrozr.
