Do not buy an 840 imo. Too many other good deals floating around.
830/M4 is still the go to

Update Flash. Reboot.

If still not working then: Disable hardware acceleration (Right click a video)

I don't just mean YouTube, locally stored videos don't display anything either.

Edit: nm, I've sorted it. Thanks.

Is the Antec 300 Two a decent case? There's a bundle deal at microcenter with an Antec BP550 plus psu for $86. That was the PSU I was planning on buying anyway, so this would save me $15-20. I was going to buy a HAF 912 or BitFenix Shinobi otherwise.

Anyone know any good Black Friday deals on the 660 ti? Or at least which sites would typically have good deals on graphics cards?

I'm also willing to throw in a little more for something better if the price is right.

It's iight. If you want to save a touch go for it. Otherwise those cases you listed I believe are better.

Change the RAM then to the 30nm Samsung stuff

I'd look at a different PSU too. You could get this for the same price as the one you're looking at

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817151088

Okay, and would that PSU be good for CROSSFIRE on a 7970 ? I'm going single right now, but will be getting another one later on.

Also, which case do you recommend from one of these. Or anyother good one under $150.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811133086

Which 7970 should I go with?
Sapphire, XFX, gigabyte, msi, asus. I'm so confused about that.

and are these two items good also?

Okay.

Which CPU would be better, i've heard for gaming the i5 3570k ivy bridge is good as the i7 3770k ivy bridge ?
All I'm going to be doing is gaming/regular web browsing.

And is this a good monitor for GAMING??
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824236294
Lets say I set the resolution in the game at 1080p, will it have those black bars on the side to make it less, because the monitor resolution is higher than 1080p?

Umm...Whats OP? for cases.

I just need to confirm which CPU and I'm all set :)

All I'm going to be doing is gaming/regular web browsing.
The i5 is a quad core while the i7 is a quad core with hyperthreading. That means the i5 can handle four threads at the same time while the i7 can handle eight. It does not mean the i7 is twice as fast, but I calculated a Cinebench test where both were at 5GHz and the i7 was 27% faster. In Cinebench it's easy to split the task onto several threads because it renders an image split into many tiles and each thread does one tile at a time. Right now most games have a trouble either using up the CPU performance or taking advantage of the extra threads. It is said that the new game engines will be better at using like eight/twelve threads, it's not that easy to make games very threaded so I don't think the difference will be very high.

Basically, for gaming right now the difference between the i5 and i7 is pretty small (if there is one). It could get larger over time so it's up to you if it's worth paying the extra.

If you set the res to 1080p on a 1200p/1440p screen then the image will be zoomed in, but any resolution should be possible in modern games. That's usually the reason to go for high end cards, 1080p is now a normal res for 15 inch laptops and pretty pathetic on a 27 inch monitor. Someone also tried out a bunch of games on the MacBook Retina which has a 1800p screen. Team Fortress 2 can if I am not mistaken be played on any possible resolution if you write it in the launch options. Even something silly like 626x929.
Umm...Whats OP? for cases.
Scroll down here and you'll see several cases in different price brackets. With cases it's really up to you. Some have better cooling than others, but what matters most will probably be looks and build quality. Cases like the Fractal Define R4 have sound dampening and toned down looks while the NZXT Phantom 820 has a light strip, side fan and a stylish glossy finish. It's all a matter of what suits you in your price bracket.

I really want a decent mobo and processor for a good price. Thinking maybe around $75 for the mobo and maybe $150 for the CPU. Looked around Frys and Newegg and I'm undecided on what to get. Should I wait for Cyber Monday or snap up a deal now?

Edit: I'd prefer something off of Amazon over Newegg if possible as I already have a card there. I don't think Amazon is having any good PC Component sales, though. Definitely nothing in the lightning deals that I've seen.

I think Microcenter still has the 3570K for $170 and you get $40 off a mobo if you buy them together.

Hey guys,

So I've been out of the loop these past years, well since I've build my PC back in 2008. With all the games coming out I'm this this holiday season, I'm wondering if i will be able to max out game such as AC 3, Far Cry 3, Hitman: Absolution and others. Here is my current build.

GTX 280 OCII
Asus P5Q deluxe
Q9550 2.83 (stock)
4 gig ram
750W power supply
150gig raptor X raid

What kind of performance should I be expecting with these games?

I've been looking at the gtx670/80 for a video card upgrade, but I fear my CPU might bottleneck it. What kind of bottleneck should I be expecting?

I know an option would be to OC the CPU, but I know nothing about overclocking and feel it will be quite time consuming.

Any options for me?

Thanks for your input.

Considering upgrading from my 570 and I'm not sure if a 7950 is a good choice. Any thoughts? I was looking at a 7970 too, but that's far more expensive.

What's making you want to upgrade it? Obviously I can't speak for you but the 570 is still a very good card and more than holds it's own at the minute.

I'd like more VRAM and the ability to turn up AA in current/newer games without having my FPS plummet. For example right now in Planetside 2 on High I'm getting around 40fps average, it'd be nice to get 60 on ultra @ 1080p :I Looking at FC3 and Absolution benches makes me feel like I'd be better off with one of those cards for the settings/performance I'm after, but I have a reaaally hard time justifying the cost. Rest of system is 2500k @ 4.4ghz, 8gb ddr3, ssd. Oh and another thing, my current 570 is about 9" in length. The 11" 7950/7970 would barely fit or might not at all.

Can anyone tell me what I should look for in a bluray drive? Are there any defacto products? And would I need to buy software to playback blurays?

So should I get an M4 or try and find a going out of stock soon 830? Or some other SSD? I'm looking for speed and reliability.

I've been trying to shop for some Black Friday deals since I'm planning to build a new computer in the next 2 months. I've seen Hazaro's updated list on building a PC, and I already have 2 hard drives (1 750 GB and 1 200 GB). I know I should leave the graphics card for last, so I'm trying to find what I should buy first.... personally I'm thinking motherboard and case.

Basically I'm trying to build a machine that has a lot of RAM for gaming/multitasking, but not a uber-high end graphics card (the most powerful game I play is like Doom 3/Guild Wars 2). I actually have a GeoForce GTX 550Ti that may work, but I haven't tested it yet. Any ideas regarding BF deals/what I should buy 1st?

Black Friday deals aren't anything spectacular for core PC components unless you are willing to buy sub-par parts.

The Seasonic X650 on newegg for $90, for example, isn't a Black Friday deal but is probably the best deal out there right now.

The build up to BF and CM are definitely spectacular though imo. I've saved close to $150 thus far. That may turn to $200 even if the 670 Windforce only goes as low as $350. I guess I'm sorta agreeing with you as it is.

I'm asking alot of questions because I'm trying to setup a machine that will last for a more than a few years, so I'm trying to combine Standard and Enhanced value components from Hazaro's list. Hoping I could maybe build a rig that'll cost maybe around $600 since I alread have the hard drives.

$90 for a Power Supply? Is it really that good? Lemme read up on it... definitely didn't expect to shell out that much for one.

got the GTX 680

heaven with everything on max (768p tho):

but guess what, another loud coil whine squealer, lmao :p

this one's weird though, like midway through heaven it goes dead silent and stays that way. Its like once it reaches a certain load the coil whine stops.

honestly im gonna do some more stress test, maybe OC, but probably keep it. If this quest has taught me anything is that no card is coil whine free. Maybe my standards are just too high cause I previously lucked out with a completely silent 560ti.

i'm probably going to splurge on two of them

why are hard drives still so expensive :(

Above poster said to skip that mobo, and another said there aren't good deals on mobos except for sub-part parts? Disappointing if true. HDD's are cheap, mang. I saw a 3TB drive for $90.

Dont buy two motherboards you silly goose. :p

in regards to the motherboards, i'm also building for my brother with similar specs. Hazarro also said it should be fine. this model has decent reviews and i am not someone that needs a ton of bells and whistles. some people are though

as for the hard drives, they were cheaper per gb in 09 iirc :(

well consider yourself lucky, ive tried a 670 FTW and this new 680 with 2 different PSUs in the last month and both whined

my point is that I cant keep trying to replace my cards due to coil whine, RMA just doesnt work that way here and they'd have me waiting for months (as it happened with the previous card)

Which motherboarrd you talking about? After buying one I'd thought I'd overclock 5 years ago (and never did) I ain't about that life. I just want someone that is close to high end/can support enough stuff, and that may be the 1st thing I buy.

It's probably nothing, but does it squeek at high FPS'? Toms managed to induce coil whine in their two dual 7970 cards (7990s I guess) and a 690 by playing games at 500fps. Sounds like you get it all the time though.

that happened with all my cards. Anything above like 1000fps produced a high pitched whine. It was never an issue though.

this is more of a buzz, not as high pitched, but totally dependant of what happens on screen (pitch changes if im looking at the sky or ground, crowded area or not, etc)

after playing a game or having the gpu loaded for some time it reduces greatly so its tolerable, but still weird.

Crap, CX500 going for the same price on NCIX as the CX430 I bought from Newegg. Oh well, should still be fine since I don't see my nephew using crossfire ever. 3570k bundles are a little underwhelming... hopefully memory express will have something good tonight, otherwise I might just grab the asrock extreme4 + 3570k and wrap this thing up.

But I got one LAST question. I've decided which gpu, cpu, psu, case, ram, ssd, cpu cooler.

The last question is. Is this motherboard good for the items i've decied below?
