You must have little interference. I have a 300mbps kit and was getting ~2.5MB/s. Many reviews on Newegg are saying 600mbps only getting ~5MB/s.

Yeah depends on your home I guess. I had no issue getting the full speed from my fibre connection on the base ones.

I took the plunge on a Sapphire 7870 2gb Ghz after all (it was only 10 euros more than a decent 2gb 7850), but I am having thoughts on its wattage requirements..

I have a (I bet I'm gonna hear it for this) Xilence 580W, and currently it powers my mobo, a Phenom II X4 955, a 4870, 2x2 @ 1600, 2 HDDs @ 7200, an optical disc drive, a wi-fi receiver PCI card, plus, whatever USB devices I'm using (3?).

The official page of the card says it requires a 500W PSU.

I have never had any trouble with my PSU (its roughly 3 years old)
Do you think it is going to handle it? Should I risk it?

Whilst that's not a great PSU you should be fine.

My 2+ K/D ratio in COD, BF3 and etc. says I don't have problems playing wireless. Ping from wireless PC to wired PC ~5ms. That hardly adds to much when talking you are usually getting >100ms total for online gaming. So, yeah, I'll gladly take max bandwidth and a little latency any day. Of course if all you do is gaming, powerline, even better do Ethernet cable, is the way to go.
1) I think you know that your specific setup is drastically different to most people's wireless setups. You have everything optimized to the Nth degree with a very very nice access point.

2) K:D might end up being higher still. Scrub. :p

Danger is my middle name.

Worst case scenario, I get a new PSU. Can I actually damage anything if the PSU isn't up for it? Or am I only gonna get random shut downs/ not booting?

You could take your whole system. Most good PSUs will shut themselves down, can't guarantee it with that one.

Kinda rattled I cannot get my OC unstable, slowly lowering the vcore but still nothing, no wheas or bsods. Gonna enable round checker in prime and try one more time before I leave it and just play hames
What are you using to load?

I use OCCT on Medium/Low or Prime95 Blend + Small FFT. Linpack is funny on OCCT and doesn't load fully.

Just a follow-up post on my MSI rebate fiasco:

After going back and forth with them a few more times and sending them the invoice from TigerDirect.com, they have finally approved my rebate.

I suppose calling them "fucking scumbags" was a bit harsh, though I still have a bad taste in my mouth from the whole thing. TigerDirect and MSI are kind of on my shit list for poor customer service — both of my issues should have been easy to fix but instead took tons of back-and-forth emails. Neither of their customer service departments are very good at explaining things.

Glad to hear it turn out well, but everyone is at some fault here. You for not sending the correct paperwork and they for being not helpful.

How do you return parts that don;t work properly, and had to be broken out of a vacuum-wrap? Do amazon accept parts in bubble-wrap/styrofoam as long as you include the original packaging/receipt?

Is it bad that I called out a guy on craigslist for his bs prices?

He was selling a used desktop for a couple of hundred more bucks USED than you could getting the parts brand new and shipped.

If people want to take advantage of idiots, cool, but this guys tone in the message was all " PLEASE DON'T WASTE MY TIME", so I got a little salty..

The AMD ones also come with three games, and you can choose from the following soon when the Never Settle bundle is refreshed. You don't have to redeem the game codes straight away, you've until December 31 so doesn't hurt to wait for the new bundle

When is BF4 supposed to be added?

Has this been confirmed? I thought the other games was just a rumor.

Bout to buy a videocard and the new selection of Never Settle games might just seal the deal on an AMD card.

Yup. As long as it's within the 30 day return period. Just state what the reason for return is, print out the label or just schedule UPS to pick up the return package.

They never announced it ever would be, just that it would be 'optimised for AMD'.

Ah, I see. I assumed that the games in that image in that post were the next refresh of the program.

Also, I have a friend considering a gaming PC specifically for BF4. I'm hoping to spec something out for him that stays under $800 for machine + OS. Here is what I put together mostly based on the suggestions in the OP:

When the new cards come out in October probably.

i would be very surprised if it wasn't real.

OS is not uncluded in the above, but that's why it is closer to 700, add that stuff. I would get this, plus a Windows 8 upgrade and install it over an unactivated 7 if you can't stretch just beyond 800.

If your main use is emulation, consider getting an i5 3570K and ditching the Elite 120. Shit airflow, really noisy, just not worth it trying to get it up to snuff. Prodigy and Node are both better choices for ITX. If you have the space, just get an ATX Mid-tower. For the most part, it's cheaper.

Also, replace the Barracuda with a WD10EZEX.

Hmm. I will only emulate Playstation 2 which I believed would be quite good at the stock clock of that CPU (as i've gotten the impression that it's less demanding than Dolphin). I'd guess the air flow would only be an issue if I used an overclocked 3570K/4670K and a beefier gpu than a 7850.

A Prodigy/Node 304 would cost 40$ extra, a 3570k would cost 25-30$ extra and a z77 mobo would cost 50$ extra which would end up something like 115-120$ extra. Plus I would probably have to get better cooling as well so it adds up quite a bit. I'm a student with a limited budget and very limited space (24sqm) so i'd prefer a computer that's as small and cheap as possible.

I will need to look into different PCSX2 system requirements though. Perhaps moving to Haswell as kharma45 suggested would be better as it would be slightly cheaper at least.

knew blacklist was but didn't think that would stop it going for both if AMD stumped up the cash.

Blacklist and Watch Dogs have exclusive Nvidia tech, TXAA and HBAO+. Would be weird seeing AMD advertise those. GRID 2 has the whole Intel splash screen optimised for Intel integrated crap and has already been sold with Intel, again would be weird. The others could happens , but some serious money would need to be dealt with. BF4 probably the second biggest release this year to COD and Rome 2 is probably the biggest Sega release this year. I just don't see them giving those away for cheap. Crazier things have happened though. Fifa 14 free with Xbox.

The plan was to not overclock. Without overclocking will there be much of a difference in performance if I stuck with the i5 3350P and the motherboard I included? Really, the lower the price the better but I'm trying to maintain a level of performance that should allow him to run the game on high settings at 60 fps.

What the...what is this wizardry! Has anyone here tried these?
Yeah, using them in my temporary living situation. Works well, and works best if you have good electrical wiring.

As knitoe pointed out, it might not get the same kind of bandwidth as a really nice wireless setup, but it's a good deal less expensive and isn't range/obstruction dependent.

Just a little thing I wanted to post;

I just upgraded from a Core i7 920 to a Core i5 4670K. Originally I bought a Noctua N12P SE1366 cooler for the 920 and now they have just today confirmed that they will send me a 115x mounting bracket for free. This company is great!

Now I just hope it clears my RAM...

For the price difference of about $30-40 yeah, I would. Might even one day want to overclock. In the long run that's how you get performance out of your CPU. If not then the other build is fine, but change the few things, like the GPU to the one I linked, same price better cooling. RAM is cheaper with the coupon in the link and better. Not sure how the 3350p compares to the 3570K at stock, but there are a few more in between them 3470, 3570 non K, so the difference will be fairly sizable I would imagine. Can't find 3350p benchmarks.

Not sure about that motherboard in your build, the OP has a decent B75 motherboard in the low end build.

So i'm suddenly getting horrible stutter in youtube videos on chrome.

Like it constantly pauses and unpauses, despite being buffered.

only thing I've changed is swapping to the new amd beta drivers, is anyone else having this same problem?

So I'm still running an i7 920 OC'd to 4.1ghz. I've also got a GTX 560 Ti. Would it make since to go for another video card upgrade at this point, a GTX 760, or is it about time to upgrade the mobo/CPU? My current thought is to just get the new GPU, and wait for Skylake since that's going to bring DDR4 and SATA Express.

You'd see improvements going with a new chip, but if you aren't the type that needs to squeeze out performance where they can, then just go with a new GPU.

If it still isn't feeling quite snappy enough, then think about jumping on a new CPU/Mobo.

Is the difference between an 8ms response time and a 5ms response time really noticeable?

I was just about to finalize my order of a Dell Ultrasharp U2412M but then saw the 8ms response time, which is on the higher end of the spectrum. Should I be concerned about this?

You should read reviews of the monitor and don't just go by manufacturer's respond time claims. Many advertises the low gray to gray times, but the more accurate is black to white to black . Which monitors are you comparing?

+1 with knitoe

Basically, you're going to have reduced motion resolution compared to good TN panels. Input lag is something else entirely, if that's what you were worried about.

I'm looking to get another fan to put on the front of my NZXT Source 210. Does this one have the same connections and operate essentially the same as the other fans that came with the case(they have these three cables-for mobo and psu)?

Do I need to splash out for premium fans or will any old shit do?

Edit: Does anybody have any recommendations on which of these brackets to get, since NZXT screwed my cheap ass over by not giving my anywhere to put the damn SSD.

and the Asus MX239H

I don't know what of that you just said means, either. Monitor reviews seem all over the place and rarely go into extreme depth with the technical stuff I've found.

I think I'm gonna do like kharma said and just order it. If I really don't like it, I'll return it, but I hate doing that.

TheD

The Detective
If CreepingFear is as specific as he is stating for his requirements (streaming as opposed to capturing) then the Avermedia is not necessarily the right choice to make here and I see this quite a bit on various forums.

The Avermedia is great for taking the encoding burden away from the CPU but it is often overlooked that it uses H.264 encoding and this is not the same as the x264 that OBS and XSplit use.

When comparing image quality at a standard bitrate then x264 is very clearly better than H.264 and this would most definitely be noticeable on a sub 3000 bitrate stream.

The Avermedia is fantastic for capturing high resolution gaming footage with a small footprint but for streaming it really does not offer much.

That is not to say it isn't worth looking into but you are not going to get the stream quality for the bitrate "cost" that you would using x264. In other words you might be better off overclocking your CPU or investing in a better one - both of which might be cheaper options as well.

x.264 is a free and open source video encoder that encodes videos in the h.264 format, it is not a different format, it just does a much better job than nearly any other encoder (very much so hardware encoders).

What you can try with OBS now is to use Intel QuickSync to encode the video, it will not look as good as x.264 (but better than other hardware encoders) but it it will remove much of the CPU load of video encoding, so you can have better game performance while streaming.

Don't know about that Asus, but they for sure reviewed the u2124m

So one of my fans on my GPU died. Anyone have any recommendations for a PCI slot cooler that I can point upwards at my GPU?

Can't replace the fan easily since the wires for the two fans are spliced into one so its either new card or a PCI cooler.
