670 is still a fantastic GPU. Would've paid a bit more on the mobo for the MSI G45 Gaming. All depends on what you've paid for bits too.

MSI is about £60 more than what I got so quite happy now. Cheers buddy for the feedback much appreciated. I suck at these kind of things when there is so much variety.

Why are you on 320.18 anyway? Latest WHQL driers are 320.49 and latest beta are 326.80

I was on 320.49. I'm under the impression that it hasn't been fixed since then. I guess I'll find out if that was the issue if my system freezes again sometime today.

670 is a great price here in the UK, can't beat picking one of those up atm.

Is the G45 not £115-120?

Thanks again for all the help! Probably my last post on this as I'm pulling the trigger in about 2 hours. I'm only 100 over what I intended. Any last thoughts/comments?

Just pulled the plug on this:

Intel Core i5 4670K
Gigabyte Z87-HD3 Motherboard
2GB MSI GTX670 PE Power Edition
Corsair Vengeance 8GB
Samsung 840 Series 120GB
Corsair Builder Series CXM 600W
BitFenix Shinobi Midi Tower

Any thoughts?
Get a Hyper 212 EVO and are those low profile RAM?
That's alright. I'm gonna stick with newegg for everything as they've always provided great service, and I'm lazy.

I do appreciate the suggestion though.

840 is fine, pretty similar to the EVO. The EVO has some improved write stuff that I am not too well read up on. $7 more than 840 at Newegg thought it might be worth a look at.

May emulate in the future, budget so far has been £720 so don't really want to move on that too much with the PS4 and Xbox One round the corner.

No HDD in your build?

Hard to beat it. Gigabyte offer a better UK RMA service but they want another £20 for it

Define XL is complete overkill. Thing is really big. Get a Define R4 or Arc Midi R2.

Yeah, it thought....
1. I want it to be really silent (heard this one here is really good for it)
2. I want space in my tower/case (if I have to do stuff inside it, I want space)
3. It looks cool :p
Fair enough. R4 looks exactly the same and is super silent too, without being a giant if you wanted to go that route. If not make sure the cables on that PSU is long enough to be routed around the back of that case. CPU power may need extension.

I guess 450W for the power-supply is enough, right?

So I have a somewhat silly/stupid question, as late as the first 2013 I need a new pc thread the op had listed a custom build site for us buyers avadirect I was wondering if anyone knows why it is no longer listed. The site seems to be really legit so I had a feeling the demand for a us custom build site is just not high enough for it to be listed or it was felt the price was not worth it. Does anybody know for sure , thanks in advance.

It would be but I'd be more comfortable at ~550w

I recently built two identical PCs based on recommendations in this thread. They are basically hybrids between the standard and excellent in the OP with an i5, SSD main drive, and my existing video cards. I opted to install the CPUs with the supplied fan, and applied compound, but accidentally touched one of them. Now I notice that my PC (the other was for my wife) has a louder CPU fan so I assume that is the one I accidentally touched.

Suggestions on thermal compound and/or fan for the CPU?

Hey guys...so I've been lurking this thread for a while...just looking at the OP for information on what if I did build a new PC. I haven't decided yet if I am going to, because one of my problems is I am not really familiar with PC performance enough to know "is this going to be good enough for me?" based purely on talking about specs. I do know that my CPU and ram is old, and that it's been time to upgrade that shit for a long time. I also know that if I build a PC, I might as well try to do the best I can, but I don't want to waste money when I might not notice a huge difference in performance for the kind of games I'll be playing for a while.

Based on information I've seen on this thread, I was hoping you guys could help me decide what direction I should go in if I did build a PC. Just to give you guys an idea, I've been running a fairly old PC for a while with only a dual core Intel E7400 @ 2.80 ghz cpu for years. Older 4gb of ram. Some of my drives still run through IDE, because I didn't buy this when SATAs were always common. I did buy this newer video card last year, which is a Geforce GTX 560 ti. Not the latest, but it was a huge improvement over what I had before. Surprisingly I can still run a fair amount of games on my PC. Stuff like Borderlands 2 still look and play really well considering the old specs. Yet there are other games I've played this year that have made me go "ugh, time for an upgrade" like Saints Row 3, and Tomb Raider.

Recently when I was watching the Giantbomb quick look for Saints Row 4 and seeing how amazing that game could run compared to how I was running it...I was starting to feel like "shit, I need to build my PC finally" but I do have to stay within a certain range of funds. Probably no more than $600-700, with $800 being the maximum. Considering these limitations, and based on the information from the OP of this thread, this is what I've started consider:

CPU: Intel Core i7-3770K or Intel Core i5-3570K
Motherboard: ASRock B75 PRO3-M LGA
Memory: Kingston 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3
GPU: GeForce GTX 760 2GB or reuse my GTX 560 ti
Storage: OS drive - Samsung SSD 64gb
Storage: Steam/Games drive - WD 2tb sata HDD
PSU: (this is something I'm not sure about, because I honestly don't know what kind of power I'd need) Antec VP-450 450W ATX or Antec BP550 Plus 550W
Case: NZXT Source 210

That's pretty much the gist of it...I honestly don't know what kind of difference I'd be looking at between the 2 CPUs, and if I did go with the Core i7, I would probably have to wait until the spring for a new GPU, and reuse my 560ti until then. I would appreciate any advice you guys can give me. Thanks :)

I think I may have fucked up my P8P67 Pro or my 2500K. Either way, my computer wouldn't display anything after I removed my janky watercooling setup and put my Hyper 212+ back on.

Swapped the motherboard out for a Gigabyte with my old Phenom II X4 945 and everything works fine. I'll have to do some troubleshooting with the Intel stuff to find out what the heck happened.

Is my 500watt PSU @ 70% eff, enough for a 125w 8320 cpu, a OC 7850 2gb and 2 harddrives?
Not planning to OC the CPU until needed, but the 7850 is OC clocked to 1000

Tried installing my H100i liquid cooler and kept on getting "CPU over temperature" error on my Asus board. Would then blue screen. Bios shows that there is no CPU fan even though it is plugged into the motherboard. No idea if I am doing something wrong or if the H100i is malfunctioned. Will prolly return this one and try again.

I'm guessing my 500watt can really only output 350watts where a 500watt PSU at 80% eff can do 400 or am I wrong?

Efficiency Percentages mean it can deliver that power without sacrificing power saving features and costing you extra cash. All 500w PSU's should be able to do 500w unless they are shit. Higher percentages normally mean the PSU is better made so as a side effect can run higher then they are rated for. Normally you don't want to push a PSU to its max rated usage though

Or that it requires ~715W to output 500W of usable power to your components.
I learned something today, thanks alot seriously. I always make the stupid mistake of going cheap.

Always good to overestimate your PSU needs especially if you plan to overclock.

At the very least you will get more longevity out of it.

Looking to purchase a monitor that is suitable for all around tasks (gaming, movies, video editing, photography, text), My Budget is $300. Was looking for feedback? So far I am considering the "Asus VS247H-P" which retails for $153 on Amazon currently. Is there anything better I should consider that's under $300. What size monitors does GAF recommend?

Are you sure the backplate is on correctly and that the CPU block is adequately in place? When you turn on the PC do you hear the pump whirring up at all? Try putting you ear really close to the CPU block/pump.

You might also want to try connecting the pump directly to your power supply and turning it on to see if the motherboard connector is not bad. You can follow these instructions to jump your PSU using a paper clip:

Pretty sure backplate and CPU block is correct. The fans turn on, the Corsair symbol lights up as well. Going into bios, CPU_FAN is N/A. When going back to the 212 cooler, everything works as intended. Frustrating to deal with haha.
