I have an i5 750 with 8GB RAM and a GTX 560Ti. If I go to a GTX 760, will my rig be limited by the CPU in regards to the latest games like TitanFall and Dark Souls 2?

Thanks, that's good to hear. I found a comparison with the 840 EVO that showed a 200mbs difference when the read queue was 1, but it catches up to the EVO when it's about 3 or 4. If it's not noticeable, then cool. I'm coming from an old 5400rpm drive anyway, so I think I'll be happy.

What about the Sandisk Ultra? It got a mention here so I thought I'd see if anyone has experience with it.

I really tempted to start buying parts, perhaps it will encourage me to finish it. (It's a shame I didnt do that with £35 Samsung Green RAM.)

If the M500 is cheaper, you can better go for that.

Quick question: I've got a few Kingwin 120mm fans in my new build that I got free after rebate from tigerdirect. I doubt that they're super high quality. Would it make a difference if I were to replace them with the stock case fans from my old Antec P180B? I'm not using the Antec case for anything, so it wouldn't be inconvenient for me to switch them. But if it wouldn't really make any difference, I'll just leave the free ones in there

I'll be overclocking, by the way. 4670k and a Zalman Optima CPU cooler.

Also, would the fan filters from the P180B work with my new Corsair 200R? They're in different states or I would just check myself.

(Sorry for the repost but I'm leaving tomorrow and don't want to bring them with me if they'll be incompatible :/)

A friend told me about PCSpecialist.co.uk yesterday. Has anyone heard of them? Apparently they have an advert on TV. I did a quick build on there and part for part, for a desktop (no software, no m/kb, no monitor) it comes up as not much more than on PCPP. The parts list to choose from is much smaller, but it seems like a legit source.

PCspecialist are pretty great, bought my laptop and a desktop for my parents and they've been pretty solid in terms of customer service.

So i updated windows 8.1 and everything. I just got a question now.

Should i install all ne updated on the Asus website for the B85M-G ? Even Bios and everything or should i just leave it? I first installed the drivers from the shipped Asus CD

Furthermore: Are these datas good for my Crucial M500 or do i have to install somehting or configurate anything with my harddrive ?

So I just got a Hyper TX3... I didn't think it would be so confusing to install for AM3+. The instructions are worthless. I'm going to have fun with this one :\

Any tips?

So I have the parts lined up ready for purchase but I just wanted to confirm with someone that all this stuff will fit in my case. Can anyone take a look and let me know?

http://pcpartpicker.com/p/39ovO
Your motherboard won't fit as it is ATX and your case is only mATX. You'd need to either change the case or change the motherboard - something like the Gigabyte GA-Z87M-D3H would be good.

Any answers please?
So long as all your stuff works there really isn't a need to update your drivers. Those speeds for your SSD are just fine too :)

Has anyone had experience with an open-air case? I know this is for mining, and it would be overkill for my single GPU preference, but I love the design and accessibility:

Looks like a pretty cool case. I'm sure there'd be nothing wrong with using it for a regular gaming setup. If you like the look then no reason to not go for it :)

I grabbed a i5-3570k for a steal way back in November. Once I overclock I should be more than ok right? Or do I need to look at stepping up to an i7?

Some R9 270 and 270X models are near or at MSRP on newegg right now. Are Club 3d and VisionTek good GPU manufacturers? Also the HIS R9 270 is $185 on Amazon. How is HIS as a brand?

I have the i7 920 @ 2.67GHz which I've been using since 2009. I seeing some noticeable micro stutter in my games when a lot of stuff happens on the screen. I'm not sure if this is happening because of my CPU not. I have 8GB RAM and a GTX 680. Should I start thinking about upgrading the CPU or just hold off and build a new PC in a year or so?

Negatory, that CPU should last for another 5 years or so easy.

Still a good CPU, try OC'ing that beast.

You can overclock that 920 and get more life out of it. 920 is a beast for overclocking.

Ah the good old days without this "changed one number to 42". Where heat was hot and overclocking needed real PSU power.

I was just watching some videos of the new Asus 1440p G-sync monitor coming out and welp, looks like I'm gonna have to bite the bullet after all. I still think 27 inches is too big for me but hopefully it'll be worth the eye strain

What is the best guide for overclocking a 3570K? I have a P8 Z77-V Pro motherboard and a CM 212 EVO and 16GB of CML16GX3M2A1600C10 RAM. I have never overclocked before so preferably an easy to follow guide for an beginner would be best. Also I have had a 670 since they were released would upgrading to a 780 be a major increase in performance or am I better off waiting for Maxwell?

Tweaked it a little bit. The mobo is still expensive. I want options, I've run SLI before and may do it again. Let me know what you think.

http://pcpartpicker.com/user/RoninChaos/saved/43e2
Here you go. The case I selected also comes in Red/Black. It required that I drop the DVD Writer, and most people add them out of habit. If you do need one specifically, I'd suggest swapping in the Fractal Define R4.

This gives you a great motherboard in red with a great processor. The PSU is better as well, and is large enough to support two high end cards in SLI. Anything over 1600MHz for memory will only benefit you in multimedia creation.

This will outperform the other system you had, clock for clock, while coming in at nearly $400 cheaper :p

Additionally, you could swap out the PSU for something like a Corsair AX760/760i and get fully braided red cables to complete the look.

Hey guys, any comments on this build?

I have a few more games on my console backlog, so i can wait for a month or 2 before purchasing. Do you think the prices for any of these parts are going to come down, or might as well pull the trigger now?
Go ahead and pull the trigger.

Yeah, I've had a number of benches.

That case, while absolutely gorgeous, is going to require that you use PCI-E riser cables, as the expansion slots are not next to the motherboard. That can be an iffy thing when it comes to gaming. I'd steer you towards something like the LD PC-V4, or Dimastech benches.

While the access is nice, keep in mind part of the idea of a case is to protect your parts. They aren't very protected in an open air case.

Maybe take a look at this thread. Should be similar enough:

http://www.overclock.net/t/1323214/overclocking-i5-3570k-using-asus-p8z77-v-lx

A rough comparison of 670 vs 780. The GK110 behind the 780 is generally a good over-clocker too.

http://www.anandtech.com/bench/product/830?vs=827

If there are no big games that you care about scheduled to appear for the rest of the year, then wait for desktop Maxwell GPUs. They are likely to arrive late 2014. It's a judgement call, you could always sell on a 780.

Titanfall, maybe, but Dark Souls 2 will have a hard time I believe it would stress your CPU.
Srry for broken English. Titanfall might give you trouble, but I have a hard time believing DS2 would.

Hey guys is sleep mode on a desktop computer the same as hibernate? I am wondering if it's a good idea to use sleep mode with my new EVO ssd. If I'm not mistaken, hibernate writes the RAM state to the ssd correct?

Yep, and it's why I don't use it.

I also choose not to use it for this reason. You can disable the feature by typing the following at an elevated command prompt:

powercfg -h off

This should also delete the hibernation file on your system disk, freeing up some space for more important stuff.

But my PC has a sleep option and no hibernate. Is it the same thing for PC?

In Samsung Magician I believe I chose the profile for optimal reliability, which disables hibernation and such, but pressing the sleep button still worked

Yep. Hibernate is what they call it on laptops. Sleep is what they call it on desktops.

That's not correct. Sleep keeps RAM powered up so resuming is instant. Hibernate writes RAM contents to disk and powers it down. In Windows, if you have "hybrid sleep" enabled, choosing "Sleep" will both keep RAM powered up and write contents to disk in case of power outage. Disable it and you should have regular sleep without writing to disk.

Interesting, so I may have the option for regular sleep mode without writing to disk? I'll have to look into it.

Speaking of, maybe the hibernate file is the reason Madridsta has less space available than the rest of us?

New firmware update. Stuck at 50% for 2hrs now.
It's not downloading (the router lights aren't even blinking indicating traffic).
All other apps are closed.
It won't let me exit the Magician.
What should I do? :(

ssd folks, how do yall itunes?

fucking piece of trash always does its thing a bit wacky, theres no real way to have it all on a separate drive. You can do music and apps i think, but your ios backups and new updates can't be moved... i think?

I bought the master cooler 212 evo CPU cooler to go with the i7 4770k and gigabyte z87x oc mb.
I've OC to 3.8ghz at stock voltage and idle temp is around 25c at 1.065v

Tried need for speed rivals again and it runs much better than with amd 8350 fx or intel stock cooler. Fps used to dip to 35 in certain areas, I still get dips from 60fps but it's less common and I haven't noticed it going below 50.

I used to have issues with Tomb raider, I would get frame rate dips in certain areas to 40-45 when setting level of detail on medium onwards, this now stays at 60, minor dips with rare minor dips to 56 for a seconds.

Wanted to thank the forum and mkenyon for the help.

I would like to overclock the CPU a little more to 4.2ghz, so far the max heat I've noticed is 57c whilst playing need for speed rivals, should I be able to get more out the CPU without it overheating?

Just found out MSI will be replacing my RMA'd 770 4gb with a 780 since they didn't have stock of the 770. Wowzers, can't wait. They just made a customer for life.

It's only downloading so don't stress it. Can you manually DL it? I've never had the Magician SW fail during a DL.

No hibernate and sleep are not the same thing. Sleep is suspended operation and quickly resumes. Hibernate writes out the RAM to hard disk and has to copy is back before resuming and takes longer.

EDIT:Damn too late
