So, I was looking for a 144hz monitor on the CSGO thread and was directed here. Was looking at the ASUS 144hz 24" when someone said the BenQ was gaf-approved. Is this the most bang for my buck monitor I should be looking at? http://www.amazon.com/dp/B007HSKSMI/?tag=neogaf0e-20
They sent you to the right place.

Both the BenQ Xl2411Z and ASUS VG248QE are great. The XL2411Z has a better strobe utlitiy, as with the ASUS you have to use Lightboost.

The Eizo Foris FG2421 is better than both, but runs $600+. It has a VA panel with a native strobing utility.

Dropping $200 on Noiseblocker eLoops is something that I never ever regret.

$300 though? WTF mate. You buying some out of stock Gentle Typhoons or something?

Push/Pull on 560mm and 480mm rads plus case fans, Corsair AF140 and SP120s.

I want to use a CaseLabs SMA8 but if I have to I may back off on that idea, maybe drop the rad sizes down and stuff it all in an Enthoo Primo.

Pretty sure I'm in the "Yeah I can afford/build that" phase right now, the phase right before the "Reality sinks in I gotta reduce my costs" phase.

Will the LGA-2011-3 sockets be compatible with most or all heatsinks that are compatible with current LGA 2011 sockets?

I'm trying to decide on a new cooler for the Haswell-E chip I just ordered.

Why push/pull? With that much rad real estate, I can't imagine it making any realistic difference on temps. Also, AF 140s are terribad as rad fans.

Some good 'uns there. The Cougar Vortex 140mm have pretty good static pressure as well.

Yes.

Looks like I linked to the wrong one lol. Would it be too much of a downgrade if I went with the ASUS? The ~$60 I'd save right now would be pretty nice if both enough are close enough in quality.

Thanks for the response(s).

edit: actually nvm, looks like the BenQ is 270 on newegg right now. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824014376

They're almost always the same price. Somewhere beteween $250-300.

Yes.

If I don't need Push/Pull I'm not going to complain, that'll save me some money. This will be my first WC build so right now I'm just in the starting/planning phases.

I was going with the AP140 because Corsair doesn't make a 140mm fan without LED (I don't want LEDs in the fans) that has SP. Plus, I kinda like the look of the Corsair fans (the colored rings).

I had watched video online about a build being done in the SMA8 (Jayztwocents, borrowed a lot from this build as my starting point) and from what he noted, the fin density on the 560mm rad isn't super high so there is enough room for even an AF fan to not get choked up.

I am open for suggestions though.

If money was no object I'd just fill the thing with Noctua's new Industrial fans but they'd probably bankrupt me.

I have a question for you guys: I'm looking into investing into a little more GPU grunt in the coming months (for Arkham Knight, Ryse, Dead Rising 3, AC Unity, etc). Right now I have an R9 270 but was wondering if I should crossfire it (used MSI 270s are around ~$100) or should I sell my current card and buy a used 285/280/280X?

That X99 board sure would like nice with my white PSU cables and my white accented fans in my Air 540...

it sure would..............

lol i have the weirdest looking air 540 setup

it's white, my board is red/black, and the fans i have on the front panel are orange

Always go for one more powerful card over two weaker cards when you can.

Hey guys I don't know if this is the right thread for this question, but here it goes my wife wants me to buy her a desktop pc, she will use it mainly for Windows office projects for work and for studying also for video editing and podcasting can you guys recomend me a cheap prebuilt pc for her

Damn you guys and your monitor talk. I don't have the budget for a video card AND a new 250-300 monitor. But that sweet 144hz is tempting. Don't think I'd get much out of it with my 660ti though.

mad jelly over here

Just played about two hours of TF2 and L4D2, and all I could think was "why am I using a 60Hz monitor when I never drop below 200FPS?"

EDIT: Hey Smokey, will you take some pics of the monitor on your desk/compared to different objects. Trying to "picture" a 27" screen on my desk...

I was going to suggest seeing if a fellow GAFer could help you out on a build, but i don't know if anyone in here is local for you or how prices are there.
I lack any skill for a build so off the shelf prebuild is best I can buy it online on newegg, amazon ect ect since puerto rico is a territory of the USA

Oh, i thought you were looking for a local shop to build it for you. What price range do you consider cheap?

Also, building a PC is easier than a Lego kit and you can generally build a much better PC for the price you could buy a prebuilt.

I don't know what she plans on using.. sorry

Does the price include a monitor? keyboard? mouse?

Oh man, pre-built prices are really inflated...

I can't in good conscience suggest anything that I'm finding prebuilt at that price for video editing.
Are you sure you don't want to build one?

Anyone else have any ideas?

Edit: Maybe this and upgrade to 16 GB RAM when you are able?

...but the reviews don't instill a lot of confidence in the build quality. You could probably do a better job...

Any one know if the Playstation 3D monitor is any good with a PC? I have had it in the box for like 2 years and never use the damn thing. Its 204HZ and I'm pretty sure it's a VA panel.

other GAFfers have reported using it as a monitor/backup monitor to great success. I've always wanted one (mostly just for the collection but also to try out 3D) but I never got over my fear of the failure rate.

Yeah I can probably do that tomorrow for you after work.

It's 60Hz with interpolation. I think the general consensus is that it is a pretty terrible product :(

I have one and use it as my main monitor right now. Bought it for $99 at Best Buy's Black Friday two years ago. Needed something in a pinch, as I needed a monitor that could handle my computer, my PS3 and my Wii.

It's an above-average 24" TV; but it's a TERRIBLE monitor. The blacks are really good, and the build-quality is decent. But man, it ghosts like crazy, the colors are all way off, and there's this weird sharpening filter that makes looking at text less than pleasant. I'm eager to replace it - been meaning to since I moved to a different place almost a year ago; just haven't gotten around to it (debating between standard 120hz/140hz, G-Sync, the Swift, or 4K).

You'd be better off with something else, methinks; unless you truly plan to use it for some console gaming, too.

Yeah I can probably do that tomorrow for you after work.

Great, thanks! I'd appreciate it :)

Have fun with that think. Nice enough screen you might be able to use some tissue without even turning it on.

Thanks for the info guys. I'll probably end up getting a regular monitor for my build. Probably throw the Playstation monitor up on the desk and use it for my PS4 and as a secondary for my PC.

I currently have a 660 Ti, and am waiting for the 800 series before I upgrade. Would getting a GTX 780 / 880 as a primary GPU, and then using the 660 Ti as a dedicated PhysX card be possible / stable?

Possible but pointless. Dedicated physx cards are not very useful.

I suppose I was considering it because I would have nothing else to do with the 660, so I figured I'd put it to some use, and get like 5-20% gains in performance out of games that use it heavily, like the Metro series.
