Ive never had a game crash after an hour or 2 of this:
prime95
click blend, click custom, enter 5600MB RAM to test if I have 8GB ram. Click OK and run for 2hours.

I'm having bad stability problems with this. I lowered my clock speed to 4.5GHZ, adjusted my power voltage, and only enabled C6E. Despite this Prime95 (not the computer just the program) crashes after twenty minutes or so.

I think I'll just leave things here. I've played The Evil Within for hours and not even a hiccup happened. I could try to get 4.6GHZ again but I'll take the lower voltage, cooler CPU, and slower fan speed over 100MHZ. If I get stability problems in the future I'll probably downclock a bit more again.

Thanks for all the help!

20 min not enough time to test stability under Prime95. Increase core voltage by 0.005V and retest.

I'm looking to get a new mid to high-end desktop for gaming and have a budget of about $1,000. I had a bad experience with the last PC that a friend built for me (there was a grounding issue which fried the motherboard) so I'm especially hesitant about building one myself, since I know very little about building PCs.

Anyway, hopefully it's okay to ask this here as this isn't really what the thread is for: where's a good place to buy pre-built desktops? I used ibuypower.com some years back and had a bad experience with them (yeah, I apparently don't have the best of luck with this sort of thing). I understand that I'll be paying more for less performance but if the difference isn't TOO far off I'd feel a lot more comfortable with it assuming there's a warranty I can fall back on if necessary.

Well what are the symptoms?
i was playing league, screen went all "matrix-y" like with all kinds of lines and stuff. then blue screened.

then it reboots only as far as the windows logo and i have 2 fuzzy bars left and right of it. it then crashes and reboots again

i think its a sign that i should stop playing league

Do you have onboard video as well? What are your system's specs?

My ASUS 970 Strix arrived yesterday. Now nVidia is running a promotion to get Farcry for free... gahhhhh.

is there any way possible to get that code at this point? I feel like I got burned for not waiting a week and a half.

ok so im looking to upgrade from my 1gb radeon 6850

whats the best bang for buck card around 100-130$
ati or nvidia I hold no allegiances~
Im pretty out of the loop these days so i dunno whats good

You got a laptop 2.5" HDD there. Get the WD Blue 7200rpm 3.5" disk.

That PSU is very old (but capable), do they not have any other seasonic's? Preferably the new G Series.

Got back from work. Thanks so much for the assistance. :D

I changed the power supply as well. Hopefully, I picked the right thing this time lol.

Prime95 keeps crashing. I have feeling that this isn't a voltage problem but something activated (or deactivated) in the motherboard that is making things unstable.

I'm going to download the latest bios update.

AMD is probably your best bet in that price range.

R7 265 for $110 after rebate: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...-na-_-na&cm_sp=&AID=10446076&PID=3938566&SID=

R9 270 for $130 after rebate: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...-na-_-na&cm_sp=&AID=10446076&PID=3938566&SID=

Looks like you'd also get Alien Isolation and Star Citizen with the R9 270.

2-3 hrs of Prime95 should be 99% stable. Generally, the latest updates can help with OC. After updating and Prime95 still crashes, keep on increasing core voltage by 0.010V each time. Stop once you reach 1.350V. If it still crashes at 1.350V, might have to go down to 4.4GHz.

What happens if I go over 1.350V? I thought it only became unsafe passed 1.400V?

Hello GAF, I have several questions:

1. Is upgrading from 5750 to 7850 worth it?
2. My processor is Phenom II x4 955, it won't be bottlenecked right?
3. My friend have an old Biostar N68S3+ motherborad, can he put Phenom II x4 955/BE into it?

Whatever u are paying for that 7850, il come close to it for a 7950... If u live in the US, pm me if ur interested

Yes, it does. You want max 1.35V or below under full load.

I'm just confused a bit because if it isn't going to be at full load the whole time why does it mater what the max voltage load is (as long s it is not crazy) since it isn't going to be that for even near 24 hours?

I've been thinking of building a gaming PC for a while now and I want something beefy and will last me a long time.

How much are you paying for it? A 7850 will gain you about 2-3 times the perf of a 5750. Take a look here http://www.anandtech.com/bench/product/537?vs=549

I'm looking for a used one, it's around $150 for a 3-9 month-old card in my city. Well, my budget is very limited for the moment. I'm not from the US, unfortunately.

You don't know when or how often your computer will hit the max core voltage 24/7. If you are fine with 1.400V, that's your call. I stuck with the recommend staying under 1.350V max for my 2600K@24.5GHz and it's still going fine after 3 years.

My company is thinking of buying a new computer for one of the employees who does a bit of video/image editing (she uses Photoshop, Illustrator and After Effects) and general stuff.

Requirements:
Budget: €600 (France)
Main Use: General usage (5), Video/Image editing (3)
Monitor Resolution: no monitor needed, got a 1080p one
Will you be overclocking?: No
CPU: whatever's good for video/image editing
Mobo: anything, really
GPU: anything that's good for video/image, no gaming
RAM: 8GB (16GB if budget allows)
SSD: better if there is one, but not absolutely needed.
HDD: 1TB
Keyboard: buying a Logitech Comfort K290 (roughly €30)
Mouse: anything decent with 2 buttons and a wheel (with a cord)
PSU: anything that can make the whole thing run and won't crap out randomly
Case: any decent budget case will do

I know that €600 is not much for image/video editing, but this is just to give a general idea of what the computer is going to be used for. Plus I don't know exactly what's good for that kind of usage (apart from lots of RAM). What do I want in priority apart from RAM? For instance, is a quad-core CPU needed?

[EDIT] If Photoshop/Illustrator/After Effects is installed on an SSD and the files are on the HDD, is the speed gain significant still? If not, scratch the SSD altogether.

Disable C3 and C6, enable C1E only.
What is the ram running at? Speed and primary timings needed.
It's possible you need a little IMC voltage bump, probably called VTT on your bios.

I'm currently in talks for selling my 2-3 year old PC for about £650, all the parts together cost about £1100, think I'm giving a fair price or a bit TOO fair?
I was gonna put the money towards buying a whole new setup, I'm thinking 6 core and DDR4 ram etc. Is it worth waiting for Broadwell? Are we going to have any major advancements going on, I figured Skylake was when we would see some more significant changes.

Anyone from the UK ever used https://www.pcspecialist.co.uk either? They seem to have a really good price for pre-built configurations that I'm almost tempted to just go with a pre-built custom configured PC

I've been thinking of building a gaming PC for a while now and I want something beefy and will last me a long time.
I'm a PC newbie.

I would not recommend that card.

1. Way too expensive, even at 50% off, for its performance in games.

2. It's a dual GPU card (basically 2 x GTX Titan Black on one board), so its potential performance depends on whether the game supports the SLI feature or not. If the game doesn't support SLI, you essentially get use of half of the card.

Proper SLI support has been missing from many recent big games. In my mind, there is a question over whether SLI is viable in its current state.

3. The chip running this board is on the cusp of being replaced by GM200, which is known to be in testing and rumoured to appear in the first 3 months of 2015.

If you want to build now, the fastest single GPU is a GTX 980, but you'll get better value for money from a GTX 970 or AMD R9 290.

Bear in mind that the landscape for GPUs is always shifting. AMD are likely to announce their new flagship card in the next few months and NVIDIA will be releasing GTX 980 with 8GB VRAM before the end of this year, which could be a card that will last some time.

No it isn't, it wouldn't give you a huge advantage in games.

I don't even think it is more powerful than 2 x GTX 980 and that should be $1000 or so?

And the Titan Z is basically multiple GPUs, which has trouble with a bunch of games and I wouldn't recommend for a PC newbie.

My advice is to either wait for Black Friday deals or wait until a new high-end card releases but that can take a few months.

Just go for a GTX 980 or 970. You'll probably pay only $500 or way less for the 970. The 970 is better value compared to the 980 but obviously the 980 is more powerful.

Or otherwise go for SLI 970 or 980. I think both have the potential to be better than a Titan Z or close to it for half the price, but someone correct me if I am wrong.

Shell out much less now for a card and keep the money to upgrade the GPU later.

Now that the 970 hype had died down a bit, I'm hoping I can get some thoughts.

I'm currently running 2 7970GEs. They're good, but the constant lag in drivers and features, as well as performance issues with stuff like ENBs (I run a heavily modded Skyrim), make me think about switching to nVidia for the first time.

Would 2 970s be a large enough jump to justify an upgrade?

I couldn't believe how much faster an SSD would be over a HDD. My load times had become atrocious. I almost had to set aside 5 minutes to allow Windows to load up and sort itself out.

Saying that, when I first installed Windows 7 on the HDD, it didn't take any time to load. Over time the load speeds slowed down to a stupidly slow level.

I assume this will not be a similar issue on the SSD because it is so quick to begin with?

Just a quick question to the PC Crew, my copy of Windows 7 will not seem to activate using the key I have. I think it's been used a few to many times after a reformat. Would you guys recommend me buy another copy of Windows 7 or making the jump to Windows 8?
