Heres a build im thinking about purchasing before the years end. I wanted to get GAFs opinion on it because ive been out of the PC game for quite some time now and was sort of going by what i remember when picking the pieces. So, is it a balanced build? Its got a 750PSU because i figured buying a second GTX 770 down the road for SLI would give a major performance boost while saving money, instead of just buying what ever's the newest and greatest GPU at the time. Some other side accessories would be a Samsung 840 Evo 250Gb SSD, and a ASUS MX279H monitor.

Motherboard - ASUS Z97-A ATX
CPU - Core i5-4690K 3.5 GHz
RAM - Corsair Vengeance 16GB DDR3 1600
Graphics Card - EVGA GTX 770 2GB Superclocked With ACX Cooler
Power Supply - EVGA SuperNova 750G2 80Plus Gold
Hard Drive - WD Blue 1TB 3.5" 7200RPM
Case - NZXT H440
Disk Drive - Samsung External DVD Drive
OS - Windows 8.1
If by years end, you mean a few months out, just wait until it is time to buy to put something together. Could be some changes in the next couple of months in that price range.

I ended up ordering these two:

ATX is just the standard right now correct? I hope these two are the correct ones I need.
Wont work, youve got 2 male 3-pin headers there. You need one without the prongs (female socket).
You can always cut the 3 pin headers off and solder it.

They throw the word ATX in for no reason, amazon titles are nothing to go by usually.

Corsair M45 Raptor came for me yesterday. I'm surprised at how comfortable it is. I have small hands, right-handed and a pure palm grip. Still need to do a long gaming session on it but it's hard to imagine it will get worse for me. Got it for $30 on Amazon other day so it was hard to pass the deal up. Big upgrade over the G500 I was using in almost every way. Only knocks I see on it right now are even when you adjust weight it's still a bit heavy and it's pretty weak on programmable buttons(I think only 7). Still, that's not why I bought it anyway. Can't complain at the price I got it at.

Would a Corsair CX 600W PSU be enough to power everything here:

GPU: EVGA GTX 770 4GB
CPU: I7-4770K
MOBO: MSI Z97-G55
RAM: G.Skill Sniper 8GB DDR3
SSD: Crucial MX100 120GB
SSD: Crucial MX100 256GB
HDD: WD Black 1TB

Yes definitely enough, i've got a Ocz 600w with a ring similar to yours except for the vga, i've a r9 290 oc

Bit of a noobish question , but is there a way to prevent a New driver installation from deleting my custom resolutions ?

It is easy enough to put them back but i rather not need to do it .

Yes, but I would suggest a higher quality PSU from the OP instead.

Quick question, what's the difference between using the EVGA Frame rate target tool and V-sync?

-Does V-Sync adds input lag? If so, is it better to just cap the FPS at 60 with frame rate target?
-Does V-Sync saves energy like FRT?
-If I can't reach 60FPS can I cap the FPS to 30 with the Frame rate target tool and expect no screen tearing?
-Does one method fluctuates more than the other?

Is there really going to be a overhaul by fall/winter? If so that usually means this stuff could go down in price. At least the gpu. The motherboard and ram i'm fine, and the cpu is good for over clocking. When are the new gpu's coming, and they going to be a huge leap?

Hi guys, quick question regarding monitors, is there a 'go to' gaming monitor that stands out at the moment?? I'm looking for one, but not sure which to get regarding IPS, TN...

The 800 series/Maxwell might be out by then. X99/Haswell-E definitely will, and it might offer a great value for a 6 core part that (if up to par on IPC) would stand the test of time.

But tech announcements and release dates are a really fluid thing, and honestly people are pretty clueless about even the next 6 months. Generally when a big release happens, there's a trickle of leaked info that turns into a flood, followed by a hard launch. Soft launches aren't as frequent, which makes this whole thing so hard to plan for.

This is why I suggest planning it out when you're ready to buy.

Budget?

Pulled the trigger on an MX100. Replacing my 500GB HDD with an equally-sized SSD.

I have my OS on a separate 120GB drive. Can I just move the contents of my old storage drive to the new? It's just two program files directories (including my steam games).

£200ish I was thinking

Yeah, I'm in the US so maybe the situation is different in the UK.

Did you find many reviews while doing your research? I'm just looking now for some on Anandtech, The tech report, Xbit labs, Toms hardware.. Haven't found a single review on there. What the hell? Surely that can't be right.

I found 2 or 3 via google, forget what sites they were on though, tbh. If you find a review for the XL2420Z, it uses the same panel and is ~95% similar, so you can go off that.

Make a post here about it if you want specific information/opinions on it:

It's a solid monitor, not much to discuss really, it's similar to the more expensive 24" inch model too panel wise.

how experienced are you guys with linux?

I posted this in the linux thread but I guess it wouldn't hurt here right?

Guys I need your help!

So I deleted my linux partition because I was running out of room on my ssd. I restarted it to repair the bootloader but it doesn't seem to work! I insert the repair drive I made and follow these instructions: http://askubuntu.com/questions/419464/error-no-such-partition-grub-rescue
but every time I restart it brings me back to:

error: no such partition.
Entering rescue mode...
grub rescue>

I don't know what to do now!

Any help is appreciated.

figured it out nvm

Not exactly the thread for this, but does anyone how to inject SMAA into Wolfenstein The New Order? I'm trying to with RadeonPro and nothing's happening.

Totally wrong thread. But yeah, you can't with that sweetfx. Wolfenstein is an OpenGL game. You'll need efx version, but even the one available is buggy. So you'll just have to wait for a new one (no release timeframe)

So off topic though.

On topic:

Seriously tempting to get a Crucial 512 SSD just for pure game installs.

My Logitech k800 is dying :(
I think I might get a Corsair k70

Hopefully it won't take too long to get used to full size keys again.

I'm still having cold boot problems guys. I turn my system on, the fans start spinning and it starts making noise. But then everything shuts off and the system restarts and this message appears:

XB1cvY6.jpg

After this the OS loads normally and everything is going fine. I don't have cold boot issues everytime I power up though. It seems random.

I guess it could be a voltage issue, but I've tested my setups with OCCT and Prime95 and they all pass. My multiplier is 37 and Vcore 1.200. What can I do, GAF?

Edit: I've flashed my BIOS too already.

wait, I thought some people were already getting theirs? and that it was closer to $800? am I mixing up models?

Only people in Europe were getting their Swifts. North America branch is waiting on shipments at the end of August. The price was originally going to be $800 in the US but Asus dropped it. :D
