Do you guys think I messed up installing my cpu+cooler?

I put a blob the size of a healthy pea on my 4690k. It looked rather big but I said fuck it and stuck the heatsink on. Then maybe 30 minutes later I realized my heatsink was oriented wrong and pried it off. The paste was spread over the entire cpu all the way to the edges. I waffled for 20 minutes, then decided to just stick my heatsink on the right way since I had no rubbing alcohol to remove the paste.

Does that sound like too much paste? Will sticking the heatsink on again 50 minutes after initially applying the paste mess with the bonding or whatever?
if temperatures are fine then its fine
<40 idle <70 load

Do Seasonic X PSUs still cut it these days? I want something half decent, modular and silent, I remember these being the holy grail a few years back... Don't hear much about them these days though

You must be incredibly lucky. 90% of the time, the 212 won't fit with anything but LP RAM or just ram that doesn't have the enormous plastic vents that the Vengeance sometimes comes with (Depending on Model). If you're confident that you could fit a RAM stick under that fan, give it a go. I'm curious to know if it could fit in the first slot.

Just came home and had a look. You are right, it wouldn't fit in the first slot.
The manual for the motherboard says the first stick should go in slot A2, which is the second slot, so I guess I'm lucky. But thanks for pointing that out, I hadn't really planned on upgrading the RAM anytime soon, but it's good to keep in mind.

So my 4670k hits 100 degrees Celsius in prime 95 within seconds. Gaming temps are 60-70.

I have a third party air cooler but something's seriously wrong isn't it? I had the system built for me.

All right, thanks. There was a teensy amount kinda spilling over 1 edge of the cpu (barely a mm over though). It won't spread further when it heats up and get on the mobo?
Fine, no.

I have one so they are fine :p
Kinda redundant with all the other Gold launches. CM V sieres great value.

So I was an idiot and ordered normal profile corsair vengeance ram. As stated before by others in order to fit in 4 stick with the 212 evo you need low profile.
I'd prefer to keep the cost down a little so I was wondering if you can mix and match between normal and low profile ram. I'd be buying of the same manufacturer and get same speed etc.
Aesthetics aside would there be any issues?

Guys, awesome to hear the Seasonics are still holding their own. I've come across this - P1-750B-BEFX, its the XFX Pro Black edition, based on the Seasonic X 750 apparently, I can get one quite a bit cheaper than a SS-X... Pretty tempted..!

So new video card wise I should be waiting for Nvidias upcoming announcement to see if that has any impact on pricing tiers, right? I get the whole "there's always something new in the pipe", but I'm not sure this is that kind of situation timing wise.

Nvidia event in like 2 weeks. People believe it's likely the release of the new cards.

so, here is my PC

Intel Core i5-3350p CPU @ 3.10GHz
Nividia GeForce GTX 760
8.2 GB RAM
Windows 7 64 bit

I played watch dogs earlier this year, and then wolfenstein...they both ran like crap. I am not the best when it come to terms, but what I am getting I THINK is screen tearing. it looks like ripples when I move the mouse to look around, if that makes sense. I went into xcom the bureau last night and it was happening as well. About 5 minutes ago, I started up Betrayer and it is insane. What the Hell is causing this? It takes me out of any game I play because it looks so jarring. I have been told that my CPU is kind of bad, but is it really that bad?

Turn on the Vsync option in whatever games you're playing. That'll eliminate it. (Assuming that's all that's causing it)

Is this a good enough build to run Watch_Dogs, GTA5, Wolfenstein: The New Order, and possibly Fallout 4?

CPU: AMD FX-8320
GPU: MSI R9 270 2GB
MOBO: ASUS M5A97 R2.0
CASE: NZXT Source 210 ELITE
RAM: Kingston HyperX FURY 8GB DDR3 1600MHz
PSU: Corsair CX Series 600 Watt Modular

I'm new to PC gaming so if I could get the cheapest most reliable, good quality parts suggestions that would be great! I'm on a very slim budget of $700 (MAX) because I live in a third world country that charges $300 in import taxes. Sadly, my only reliable option is Amazon because they ship internationally. I'm not looking for ULTRA performance in games but I'm happy if it could equal PS4 graphics!

Run a driver cleaner and cleaner in safe mode after uninstalling drivers and install newest beta drivers. Something is being funny.

Also replug all your power and data connectors. Maybe its something like you forgot the extra 4 pin power for mobo and its not getting enough juice or something is overheating (check op utilities)

When will you build?: No deadline.

Seems like my parts from newegg are going to take an extra day to arrive. Bummer, since even the X-Star monitor already arrived from Korea, and I ordered it a day after my mobo.

Any Haswell-E overclockers in here?

Still waiting for my order of a 5930K, Asus X99 Deluxe, Corsair LX 2666Mhz DDR4 and EVGA braided white cables to arrive. They should all be here by next Tuesday. That's what I get for using Newegg snail mail free shipping. I prefer a quiet PC so planning only mildly overclocking over Air. I'll be happy with 4.3-4.5GHz.

Yeah I paid the extra for the 3 day shipping, and in the end I'm sitting in day 5. I should have gone for free anyway, I'm going away north-state for the weekend and wanted to have it built before that, but It wasn't going to happen either way.

I am highly awaiting your build because my current plan if I do go X99 is the same CPU, Mobo and RAM

Newegg shipping is mediocre at best IMO, though I think we're all spoiled by Amazon prime.

Yeah. I have prime, but went with Newegg because the parts were cheaper and no tax. Seems like an eternity when you are use to getting items in 2 business days.

Guys..

I went for a Logitech G502 as an upgrade from my Deathadder G3, does anyone here use one?

The -only- thing I dislike about this mouse is how damn ugly it is.

I can't *believe* these lazy developers keep making file sizes so damn large. Btw, how does technology work?

I've used pretty much every brand of "gaming mouse" out there. The G9/G9X/TactX were always my favorite, but the lack of buttons and general lack of availability had me go to Steelseries.

The Proteus Core is f-ing phenomenal. Best mouse I've ever used. Go for it!

I have one, love it.

I like how it looks.

I'm sure I'll get used to it, it's not really as "vanilla" as my Deathadder was but *shrug*, might as well try something new!

Now I just have to find a keyboard, the Vortex/KBT Race seems hard to find in Blighty so I might have to find one's that'll either ship to the UK or a board that I can just buy here... Like the Filco MJ2

I just built a new rig today and things aren't going well.

Here's my specs:

Mobo: Gigabyte Z97X-Gaming 7
CPU: Intel i7-4970K
RAM: 16GB (2x8GB) Corsair Vengeance 2400Mhz DDR3
HDD: Crucial MX100 512GB
Video: EVGA GTX780 3GB Superclocked
Sound: ASUS Xonar
DVD: ASUS crap drive

I booted up, installed Windows, and upon rebooting from the install, it hangs on the Gigabyte splash screen. Occasionally if I restart a few times it might make it into Windows about 25% of the time. But once I restart again it'll just hang.

I swapped out both sticks of RAM with no effect.

When it hangs, the LED Code on the Mobo says "Ad". Capital A, little d. There is no capital A little d code in the manual, but code AD means Issue Ready to Boot Event for OS Boot.

Any suggestions? I spent such a long time putting it all together, now if I have to RMA something I'll cry.

Heh I went for the G700s instead just because I found the 502 so ugly (and it was on sale for basically the same price). I did like it when i tried it out though.

Could be the Crucial MX100. Do you have another drive to install windows and test?

How are your boot devices set up in the BIOS?

I am at the Seahawks game now, but I'll respond to this when I get home if no one else does.

But as a starter, I really suggest sticking to the builds in the OP.

Can someone help me with a troubleshooting issue?

I just purchased a Corsair M65 mouse. Plugged it in this afternoon and it worked great. Left the PC for a few hours to do some stuff, came back, and now the mouse is unresponsive.

I've tried restarting, tried different USB ports, updated the latest mouse drivers...nothing. The mouse lights up blue when it's plugged in, and I can right click, but that's it. I can't move the pointer at all.

Any ideas?

Reinstall Windows and see if the problem persists.

I tried, and told me the installation failed but it took me back into my existing installation. Very strange. I guess it's probably an HDD issue, I'll pick up a cheap one tomorrow to see if it makes a difference.

Out of curiosity, but have you tried switching from AHCI mode to Legacy IDE and see if the problem persists?

Looks like it's a mouse problem. Plugged it into my Mac, same problem. The buttons click and the mouse is recognized, but the pointer won't track at all.

Guess I'll just return it. Too bad, was a pretty nice looking mouse, too. Back to the Logitech one I have!

you could try sliding the hyper fan up a few mm's up the heatsink to make clearance

I'll have a look at this when I get home.

Really didn't think about the ram when I bought my parts, this coupled with the fact I can't fit a h100i really bums me out. Ah well, guess it's just another reason to upgrade in a couple of months.

Nice. What's the temps of the CPU at stock speed with that cooler? And, can't wait to see what they are when overclock.
