I just built my new rig and I'm getting temps well below ambient in HWMonitor and CAM.

i7 6700k
GA-Z170XP-SLI mobo
Kraken x61 cooler

Temp in CAM shows 20, even though ambient temp is around 25. In BIOS, I get a reading of around 34. Should I be concerned?

No, they're good. What are your load temps like?

Couple things:

1. How can I use CPU-Z to see my CPU temps? I can't find them. (so I am using another program.)

2. My 6700k idle temps is like 35-40c. Is that normal? I have a Cryrorig H7 on there. I'm hoping I did not apply the thermal paste poorly.
1. cpu-z can't monitor temperatures.
2. depends on ambient temperatures. what are your load temps like? vcore?

Hey guys!
I have new hardware incoming with the 6700k and a EVGA 1070.
I still have some budget left and consider to upgrade from my very old 1080p 60hz samsung screen (which is 27' because back then i thought size matters).

So iam considering to buy one of those fancy 1440p 144hz gsync ips screens, but iam worried that the 1070 would not be able to handle the 1440p with atleast 60 fps next year.
So I guess it comes down to 3 questions
1) how bad is gaming on 1080p on 1440?
2) do 40-50 frames still feel smooth on gsync? (it feels terrible on my current screen, worse than 30 fps console games)
3) Is the 1070 a nice match for those high end screens?

Thanks in advance!

Got a question about something strange.

Year ago I built a PC, now I am returning back to my country in a month. I'll sell/give away my PC parts apart from my GPU and CPU. I am a bit worried about it because I'll be flying and I don't have the original boxes for the parts. How can I make sure the parts don't get damaged?

It is 28c in my house and I'm getting 28-31C. I also have my cpu with a powerstate so it isn't going full speed at idle.

Check to see if your cpu downclocks/lowers voltage at idle.

Though it does seem like it doesn't cool close to ambient according to this:

If anyone could point me to a good overclocking guide for an i7 6700k using a Gigabyte mobo (preferably the GA-Z170XP-SLI), I would really appreciate it! I'm using a Kraken x61 for cooling.

Our upstairs where my computer is frequently around 70 degrees.

I haven't had a chance to test load temps.

Where I live the difference between i3 6300 and i5 6400 is about $100.

Yeah, that's about average. Performance is much better, though. Whether it's $100 better is up for debate. (Personally, since you're pairing it with a 480, I'd say it's worth it, but I really hope AMD knocks it out of the park with Zen so Intel has reason to be competitive with their pricing again.)

Should it change voltage automatically? I haven't did anything to it since setting up my computer. It should basically be at default. How can I check if the voltages changes while idle?

Are my temps a concern? Would redoing thermal paste make a significant difference?

I used the paste the H7 came with, if it matters.

How long do power supply's supposed to last?

Mine is the Thermaltake ToughPower XT 775W Power Supply, which I'm still using since Jan 2013 and have no issues.

If I were to build a new PC should I consider using it still?

Alright, I am sure this has been gone over a bunch of times before and I did search, but I will ask anyway for up to date information....

I am looking at a new monitor in the next 1-2 weeks and interesting in ... 144Hz / G-sync / 1440p probably in that order of preference. I mostly play CS:GO and EU4. So range of games tends to be pretty all over the place.

I was looking at the Acer XB271HU, is it noticeably better / worth the cost difference over the XB270HU. I do note that I prefer the looks of the former.

What other monitors are in this feature / price range that should be considered.

I haven't had a monitor upgrade for years....years.

I have a weird issue.

I bought a new 4K monitor and hooked it up to my 1080 via the DP port.

Everything boots up fine but once Windows 10 starts up it works for a bit but then whatever I do completely locks up Windows and my mouse has the infinite loading icon. Nothing works and I have to do a hard reset.

How can I fix this?

Depends, I don't know what the default is in windows.

Download hwinfo64 to check everything

I have that. What would I be checking?

I ran Prime for awhile and my results some odd. I am getting low to mid 50s. Seems to me that my idle temps seem high, but my load temps are on the low side. Seems I am safely in limits in any case.

I was also just thinking my PC is set to "Performance" in Power settings in Windows 7.

1) totally fine on decent displays, no issues
2) yes. I am frankly blown away (running 1440ips freesync 144hz, rx480). it doesn't make it into 60fps but if feels great. There is a reason this is getting hyped.
3) yes. I am running a RX480 which is lower performance (quite a bit). The benchmarks being used now are insanely demanding vs most peoples use. I am running GTAV and actually struggled to get it below 60fps while running at 1440p. You start dropping just a few settings from the ultra/insane/etc level to very high (almost no actual visual differences) and fps doubles.

So I got a new PC and I want to join PC Master Race.

I have this computer.

http://www.bestbuy.com/site/lenovo-...rd-drive/5196104.p?id=bb5196104&skuId=5196104

These are my specs:

6th Gen Intel® Core™ I5-6400 processor (2.7 gigahertz)
8GB system memory for advanced multitasking (2133 megahertz, DDR4 SDRAM)
-System Memory RAM Expandable To32 gigabytes
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 730 (2GB)
Number Of PCI-E x1 Slots3
Number Of PCI-E x16 Slots1

Can I buy a 1070 GFX card and run a majority of stuff with no fuss at 1080p/60FPS?

How can I check what my PSU is?

This is my first potential gaming PC and I think I can make it work right?

pls halp!

It says in the Q&A section it has a 250w PSU, I don't think ( correctly me if I'm wrong) that's good enough with GeForce 1070.

Alright. So get a stronger Power Supply and the Card and I should be good to go?

I literally have no idea what I am doing!

*Edit*

I've read this on the QA section

It will not run high end games, and the PSU is not upgradeable (the psu and motherboard use a proprietary 10 pin ATX connector, and the psu is therefore not upgradeable - which severely limits your graphics card options). The included GT 730 is not going to run most 2015 or 2016 games. Because of the psu issue, this is not a good machine to buy if your intention is to turn it into a gaming machine.

If this is the case. I should probably just return it and build a PC from scratch right?

Actually. I just found this from the Q&A.

PSU is not upgradable.

Edit: I see you read it as well.

How the heck does a standard case not have a upgradeable PSU?!

I was super happy with the PC too!

Probably because it's not a standard case.

Making your own build will be better in the long run.

Unfortunately, it won't be possible under normal circumstances. Apparently, there is a subreddit that sells Windows 10 keys for $20 or so, which is better than paying retail price.

Well I bit the bullet and bought an EVGA GTX 1080 FTW DT and Acer XB271HU from Newegg. I'll be upgrading from an MSI GTX 970 and Asus VG278QE. Hopefully going from 1080p high settings to 1440p gsync ultra will be worth the price.

Hey folks, this isn't really a PC buying question but I am looking for a LOW PROFILE GPU to go in a small form factor box at work. The card has to support a 4k monitor, the only cards I have been able to find in the past able to do this are nvidia quadro ones. I was wondering if anyone knew of newer gen cards that aren't priced like quadros that can do this?

It will be. 1440p is the sweet spot right now. Enjoy the card!

Trigg, and anybody else who could help - I used this guide earlier today and have just tinkered with my settings.

I've set my clock to 44 (4400Mhz), and my CPU Core/Cache Voltage to Manual, and 1.25V

You reckon this is safe? I had read that you can change the settings to Offset so that it's not pumping the voltage in unless it needs it, but doesn't seem to work for me (I can select Offset but it refers to another multiplier?).

So right now I'm sitting on 4400Mhz, 1.25V and idle temps around 30-40C.

Normal? Am I meant to play with some of these other settings like

CPU VCCIO Voltage
CPU System Agent Voltage
PCH Core Voltage
CPU Standby Voltage
?

I haven't touched any DRAM Voltage, left that all at 2133Mhz.

I'm new to this so a bit nervous :(

I want a gaming mouse, the question is, should I go wired or cordless?

I currently use a Logitech cordless with the little receiver thing you plug into your USB, however it's very dodgy and only works when the USB reciever isn't plugged in all the way down, so I have to insert it a little. It still plays up every now and then.

I don't want a Logitech mouse that has a reciever. Are there other branded mice that are wireless, or pick up a wired one?

My PC occasionally couldn't detect my system SSD, but fine after a restart. The S.M.A.R.T. stats looked fine and I've swapped a new SATA cable, what gives?

I have never had a problem with Razer's mice, I used an Abyss for a few years and still its going strong, I recently changed to a Logitech g900 wireless mouse (https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B01CZTGBOW/)

Which is an amazing change

So here are my BIOS settings, am i meant to change these?

http://imgur.com/7D8kbNw

http://imgur.com/4d2YzrM

i'm not familiar with your BIOS so not sure of some stuff but FCLK can be used or left alone. it sets the speed between your CPU/PCIE slot so that's your GPU. by default i think skylake runs at 800mhz but you can go to 1000mhz. i don't have mine turned on and i've read the performance difference is negligible.

you have the CPU core set an manual which is good but you might want to manually set your DRAM voltage. I have my 2x8GB sticks at 1.2V running at 2400mhz. these sticks have 1.35V in the specs and that's what i had it set when i had them at 2933mhz. the CPU VCCIO/SA voltages you can adjust manually when overclocking the CPU but that's beyond me. i'm not really sure what they do.

on my BIOS the only things i changed when doing my overclock were the cpu multiplier/voltage and setting it to dynamic ratio/voltage so that it's not running full speed constantly. for your RAM you can enable XMP but i just set my ram speed and voltage.

Ok I'll look into it with the DRAM. Cheers. I kept getting a blue screen error about IRQL not less or equal. So I upped the voltage in the CPU to 1.275 at 4.4ghz. Should I increase this to 1.3? The error appeared on a boot and then as soon as I ran prime95. When I upped it to 1.275 the first worker failed almost immediately in prime95.

Yeah I couldn't figure out how to see it to sit at normal setting a when idle. The offset mode just over rides the manual voltage I nominate.

are all display ports the same size? my msi hd 7870 seems to have 2 display ports, i am about to buy a acer xb270hu which only comes with display ports. Just making sure I won't need a converter to dvi/hmdi

edit: just checked it has 2 mini ones, not full size. Ideally I would like the 120fps. Seems when using mini DP to DP you can't get more than 60fps?

i5 2400 -> i3 6300 + DDR4 worth the upgrade? I have a RX 480 and play at 60fps max.

It might be slightly better, but it's nor worth the trouble and money. Go for an i5 6500 (at least) or save your money.

SLI isn't worth it. Not enough games support it. The situation might become slightly better with dx12 mgpu support in the future, but I wouldn't bet on it.
Waiting for proper 4K single GPUs is the way to go, imo.

Are you looking for a professional card? Because most cards can output 4k today.
You could get something like the 750Ti. It supports 4k@30hz via hdmi and 4k@60hz via displayport (there are displayports to hdmi 2.0 adapters).

Does having a CPU with 8 threads over 4 threads make any difference for gaming?

most people recommend getting an i5 cpu (4 cores/4 threads) over an i7 (4 cores/8 threads) if you're just going to be using it just for games. if you plan on streaming or doing a lot of video/image/music editing an i7 would be better.

Installed another drive into my PC last night and got the "Reboot and Select proper Boot drive" screen when I plugged everything back in. Unplugged all the drives and only plugged in the SSD and it's still the same thing.

Any idea what happened?

You need to go into the bios and put the drive with the OS at the top of the boot list. Twice when I've changed drives around the SSD has disappeared from the list completely

Generally the answer is more a "No", but in select newer titles the 2600K does pull ahead of the 2500K somewhat. Blood & Wine is a solid example:

w3_proz.jpg

If you're contemplating an upgrade, I'd strongly recommend going with at least a 4c/8t CPU (e.g. the 6700K) as games are only going to get more multi-threaded going forward.
