Seek victory, not fairness
Test-benching two Titan X Pascals.

Once the rig goes under water, that HB SLI Bridge wont fit, because of its odd shape. Will have to use EVGA's bridge instead.

EzxwHYdl.jpg

Could you use two long SLI ribbon cables? (I'm not sure if the HB bridge actually has any additional connections in there)

Hang the fan in any way possible, then after stress testing is done, remove the fan. This is very normal with water cooling. Had the same issue on my 3960X at 4.8Ghz with the EK L120.

Do you think it would be worth it to drop down to a high-end air cooler, like a Noctua NH-D14? I'm just worried about airflow in my rig, and having the motherboard overheat. Obviously I won't be stressing the system 24/7, but I still worry about the possibility of throttling during normal use.

The VRMs will never get hot under normal load, unless you are doing something like video encoding for long periods of time.

Air cooler can help, but this is excessive,

Can someone please help me. My case has 3 fans which all seem to be connected up to the top of the case were there is a switch that controls the speed of the fans. I can only see one 4 pin socket with no label or marking coming down from the top so I am guessing that is for the fans??? Does that then connect straight to the psu???

Read the case's manual? My phanteks listed how you're supposed to connect it...

What case?

Its a Antec gx505. I have just been looking at cables that came with my PSU. There is a cable which is listed for peripherals. I am guessing this connects to the 4 pin socket coming down from the fan controller on the top of the case. Then it connects straight up to the PSU I think?

Looking to upgrade my rig I built 4 years ago. I'll probably get a 1060 when they become more readily available. Just wondering if more RAM and the GPU is all I need. This is what I have now:

MB: P8Z68-V LX
CPU: i5 2500K
GPU: 560ti
RAM: 8 GB's DDR3 RAM
PSU: 700 watt (don't recall the brand/name)

A few questions:

-Can I overclock my CPU on this motherbaord?
-Can I switch out to faster DDR4 RAM?

I'm going to stick with 1080p so I'm not worried about 4K. Thanks in advance for any replies.

You can certainly overclock on this board. But if you do, you should make sure you have a decent cooler (not related to your board, just a general rule of overclocking).
You are stuck with ddr3. But it shouldn't mater for your config. It won't be that much of a bottleneck.

Is an Overclock even worth it? Was just trying to get as much as I can out of my 2500k. thanks for your reply

You have one of the most over clock able CPU ever made. The 2500k is a legend. Google i5 2500k overclocking guide. They are all over the web.
On a decent cooler, you should reach 4.2-4.5 GHz easily.

Looking for a bit of advice on my new build. I’ve been a console gamer for the last 20 years and have been considering getting a gaming PC for about 6 months. I like the idea of cheaper games, the steam controller and not losing all my games at the turn of a generation.

Recently my 8-year son has become interested in Minecraft mods and I would like him to be able to use a keyboard rather than asking google. Anyway, I am not 100% sure that I want to go ball deeps and spend a lot of money on a PC gaming rigs as I might just plump for the PS4K and buying a living room PC does have issues. To get to the point, can anyone recommend a build for a small living room ready gaming PC which could be the foundations of a really good PC in 12 months time if I do push the big PC spend button. Looking to spend under £350 and be able to use bits again. Is this possible?

Your not going to get a gaming pc for that little, plus if your not going to Build it for another year there is not reason in looking right now. There will be new stuff out by then.

Thanks. Guess that was the case. I might just buy a nice case, a good psu and go for dirt cheap on everything else

If your going to get a "k" processor you need a z170 board for over clocking. If your not going to over clock there is no reason to get that "k" processor, just get a non "k" processor.

Thanks :)

Trying to keep costs low so maybe a 6500 would be a better purchase? He's not gonna be playing at above 60fps so maybe that's all he needs?

Bought a new Case for my x99 Build: Case-Labs Merlin SM8. I was tired of fighting with my old Case-Labs case S8S(Had hard time fitting everything in).

4JA0Tr8.jpg

Now question is should I keep my MSI Godlike Motherboard or Go with Asus Rampage V 10 Edition(Sell my MSI Board).

Uh... you ordered the exact S8S I wanted. Let me know if you're considering selling it.

Hi guys I successfully built my pc and managed to install windows fine .then I decided to install drivers and I picked my gpu rx480 driver first and soon as I clicked screen lost signal and now I cant shut pc down what should I do?

Perhaps it should wait until someone actually needs it, but has anyone tried doing a minimum-budget VR build recently, now that the RX480 and/or GTX960 are somewhat more possible to find? Curious to see how little someone could get away with spending.

Did you still have your monitor plugged into the motherboard's HDMI/Displayport/etc? Try plugging it into the video card instead.

Exact same case as me, welcome to the club! 3 years later and it's still my all time favorite case.

I am loving my new build... Overclocked my i7 6700k to 4.6ghz and it was so easy with the Asus Maximus Hero VIII. It is posting great temps using the Corsair h100i as well, maxing out at 68c. I will likely get that down a bit once I mess with voltage. It seems that I got a great cpu and it is stable at the default voltage, but I will be slowly dropping it when I have time. Also, my G. Skill Trident Z 16gb is rolling at the full 3000mhz it is rated for. This thing is a beast compared to my old i7 930. I am also really liking the Fractal Design R5 I put everything in. A really great case!

Thanks to you all, you have helped a bunch!

I would guess not enough power from PSU and/or unstable GPU OC, by user or from manufacturer. What's your PSU? Try running the card at normal stock spec for that GPU.

Thinking of upgrading my PC but know next to nothing.

Will there be a significant boost upgrading from a AMD-FX 6100 to i5-6600? If so, how much? Would the 6100 bottleneck a 1060?

I have a new motherboard, it does not show POST and gets directly to Windows login? Do I have to reinstall my windows or is there a setting in the BIOS that does this?

Whilst you're not going to get something amazing, you could build a decent enough base.

  • The Core i3-6100 will deal with low-end gaming fine, like Minecraft or CS:GO etc. You can upgrade this later to a Core i5-6500 or even Core i7-6700 if you really wanted to.
  • If you don't need wireless you can drop the B150N to something cheaper.
  • The 500W PSU will let you put pretty much any graphics card in there, including a 1080.
  • The case is deep but not too high or wide - it can fit graphics cards up to 340mm too.
  • No Windows included, so you'd need to get that.
A look at some games with the Core i3-6100 and internal graphics:

Power supply is likely taking a poop on you when your whole PC hits max load.

How many watts is your power supply?

Any error messages or blue screen of death?

Try plugging your PC directly into the wall outlet if you haven't already. I had a similar problem after moving from a Sandy Bridge system to a Broadwell-E one and the cause ended up being that the power board I was using wasn't up to par. Haven't had a single crash/restart since removing it from the equation.

Ordered the final parts for my new build yesterday. This was done after I finally tracked down the problem with my 1080 being the motherboard's PCIE slot. Of course, buying a new motherboard means also buying a new processor and RAM. Funny how that works out.

Asus Maximus Hero VIII
i7-6700K
16GB G.Skill Ripjaws V DDR4 3000

I'm really excited for this, as my current corresponding parts are fairly aged.

Biostar TZ77B (I've never went in very deep on motherboards)
i5-3470
8GB DDR3

I know I am being obsessive about this, but something is causing my cores to throttle while running Prime95. Could someone check the my HWiNFO64 and HWMonitor readings below and see if any of the maximum values jump out as a possible cause?

Even with a fan pointing at the VRMs?
And 1.392v really needed for 4.5Ghz?

Haven't managed to do that yet since I don't have one available, and I'm not even sure what the VRM value is from these numbers. Any idea? I suspected VRM just from reading up on it, but none of these numbers seem extremely high.

And 1.392v really needed for 4.5Ghz?

I'm not sure why the vcore jumps up to that at a certain point, but I'm averaging 1.321 (shows this in HWiNFO). I am using a negative offset to achieve that number and in the 13 hours I was testing since last night, it was holding steady there every time I checked on it.

Installed a 16gb ram kit to replace my old 8gb kit and my system wouldn't turn on. Shit bricks thinking maybe I'd fried the mobo when installing them.

Unplugged enduring, Removed them and system worked, installed them again and it worked :/ no idea what happened but thankfully the panic was short lived!
