Shouldn't I wait for the Acer x34p or go for the ASUS pg348q?

Edit: I'm actually going to go with neither. Seems like these monitors have lots of issues that I don't want to deal with

Thank you, probably going to grab one then.

Also another issue I just had.. Does anyone know what is this?

I was messing around with smooth scrolling option in Firefox earlier then when I entered that tab it was like that, refresh fixed it but now I'm scared for my life that my GPU is dying. Just got GTX 1070 last week.
All information is appreciated to ease my soul.

Hmm if it's only confined to Firefox and didn't appear anywhere else I don't think your GPU is dying from all you told. Are you running Windows 10? From personal experience Win10 drivers can be extremely weird with browser GPU rendering, as a test you could try to disable hardware acceleration in Firefox

Can i get some recommendations for a 1440p 60hz monitor? I checked the first page but there is only Acer model listed and that is way beyond my budget of £300. I bought the Dell U2515H which was fantastic but unfortuantly it arrived with the screen heavily scratched under the protective cover taped to it. It was bought new.

Are there any good monitors out there that fit into this specification or should I try again with another U2515H?

I can't get it to happen again, so won't help much to try without HW acceleration. This bugs the hell out of me.
Did Unigine Heaven and the results seem normal other than min fps dipping to 9: http://i.imgur.com/BDFqdVY.png No artifacting here either.
Aargh.

I'm having trouble deciding on a case. I built my computer in 2010 and have changed a few components since then and going into the case was fucking terrible every time. It was cramped, the lack of a modular PSU had cables getting in my way and the HDD slots faced toward the back of the case, making removing and adding new HDDs the biggest pain-in-the-ass experience of my life. I want to avoid that mess with my new rig but don't know how to proceed. A full tower seems excessive; being more expensive and taking up such a larger surface area of an already small desk. Are there any mid towers that offer plenty of space to move around there without needing tiny trump hands to get everything hooked up? At the least something where the HDD slots facing the out toward the side of the case instead of into the other components and not breaking 100 bucks?

Bonus question. As I've been researching a new build I've found I've got to pretty much replace every single component (except the GPU) thanks to modern mobos having DDR4 slots instead of DDR3. It'll leave me with a practically intact computer that is perfectly capable of running 1080p at high settings, where could someone sell something like that? What would be a fair asking price? I figure I could at least pay for a GTX 1060 to replace my current GPU and leave that as part of the old comp.

Guys, is there any software to reliable test and stress all of my GPU VRAM? Because there is clearly and issue on my end that is fucking annoyingly difficult to replicate, occurs randomly, that may be caused by VRAM and/or GPU OC issues.

I need something like memtest for my GPU. Does it exist?

It's been a while since I last used it but I think OCCT has dedicated GPU tests. Can't remember if it allows custom memory size though. On phone so hard to check.

I'm clearly having VRAM issues, mostly evident in videos. It occurs 100% randomly, and is difficult to replicate, in that refreshing the video can immediately resolve the error. Sometimes It wont occur at all. The best stress test I could find, in terms of games, was cranking Mirror's Edge Catalyst with 200% resolution scale. Initially I could see clear artefacts and VRAM issues on very specific screen edge ambient occlusions (though not all ao) indicating a rendering fault. But then scaling the resolution back down to 100% then up again fixed the issue.

I mean, fuck. If this is my GPU I'd at least like the error to occur consistently enough that I can point to it and get it fixed. It's my new 1080 too. No issues until recently updating my Nvidia drivers, so I wonder if the culprit is that. Inconsistent replication just makes it a nightmare to demonstrate.

Here's an off-screen GIF of the issue

Help. Still speccing out Dad's PC. I need a nice and cheap mobo to go with a 6400.

I'm getting a little lost in the switch over from DDR3 to DDR4 so not sure what to pick from the wealth of options.

What GPU setup would be considered overkill for a 120Hz 1080p G-Sync monitor? 1x 1070? 1x 1080? SLI 1070/1080? Trying to decide what setup will get me through 4 years or so.

i have a fractal design define s case which i'm really happy with and would recommend it. the HDD's are actually stored where you'd put all your cables. here is an image to show you exactly.

015.JPG

not only is there plenty of space for your storage drives behind there but cable management is really easy too which will help if you have a non modular PSU. as for working inside the case there is plenty of room. it has no ODD/HDD drives to get in the way:

fractal.design.define.S.window.jpg

it is a mid atx tower and here in the uk it cost me £84 but the non windowed version is £74. not sure what that is in USD though.

depends what kind of games you're going to be playing. a 1080 won't manage 120fps in all games at 1080p. here is a comparison between both cards

I recently built a new computer and chose a Fractal Design R5 and it was great to build in. I would definitely recommend it, but make sure you understand how big it is. It is totally silent and keeps everything nice and cool! (i7 6700k OC to 4.6)

Probably not the best place to ask about this but how reliable are Logitech mouses?
Thinking about getting wireless Logitech MX Master and hoping it would last me years.

The MX Master is a great mouse, it would last you years.

What size of motherboard are you looking for? As for RAM, G.Skill, Crucial, Kingston or Corsair are all great brands.

A 1080 would be good.

I was hoping just a standard ATX. Big lian li so it can take full size. However I notice the smaller ones are much cheaper.

Will have a 212evo on it.

It is still in warranty, right? Get in contact with the manufacturer/vendor, show them the gif and images few pages back, a reasonable CS should see it as vram/hw problem.

PS: have you tried rolling back the driver?

* This is my first build so I probably don't know what I'm talking about

I'm looking to buy a z170 mobo for better upgrade compatibility (upgrade path is a GTX 1070 and i7 6700K) but I currently have an i5 2500K processor. Will the z170 mobo work with the older processor? Oh, and can I also buy an older GPU to use with the z170 while I'm saving for the 1070?

Here's the link to the mobo I'm planning on buying.

You can't upgrade a LGA 1155 m/b (2500k) to a LGA 1151 m/b. I will just sell the 2500k, it can still fetch some pretty dollars for you.

That motherboard will not work for the 2500K. You'd want to buy the motherboard, CPU, and RAM at the same time.

Have you tried reseating the GPU, using different cables, and different ports on the GPU and monitor? Once those possibilities are eliminated, run the GPU at stock speeds/voltage and try to replicate the artifacts. Then downclock and repeat. If you still have the issue, time for an RMA my man.

Thanks for the replies. Is there any sense in trying to buy an older mobo that would work with the 2500K? Or is it best to sell the chip and move on?

It really depends on what you want to do with the pc? how much money can you spend and when? etc.

I'm looking to spend as little as possible at the moment and then upgrade throughout the next year or so. I'm willing to spend money where it's needed to make those upgrades easier, e.g. the motherboard. Gaming is the main focus, hoping to start with 60fps @ 1080p and move up to 1440p later on. G-Sync or Freesync would be ideal!

Could be your card is overheating. Open up gpuz and save to log then try out some benchmarks or play a game for a minute or two (personally I don't use furmark for stability testing, I think Firestrike works perfect as a stability tester), and then look over the log. If your card is reaching 80+ temps fast, there could be something wrong with the cooling or perhaps the airflow in your case is lacking?

Also it definitely could be the drivers. Try to roll back to the last drivers you had no issues with. Have you overclocked?

Here are two.
AsRock H170A-X1

AsRock Z170-A-X1

These are the cheapest motherboards I would buy for that CPU, the first one is all you really need since it's not a "Z" Processor, I just put the Z170 board there just in case you wanted more. AsRock makes great reliable boards.

Definitely a "want" when it comes to the high-end parts. I don't currently have a desktop PC so I'm trying to start at the low cost end and work my way up.

Fantastic, didn't know of AsRock as a brand. I may consider the 6500 if dad can stretch to it, but assume the boards will still be fine. Thanks.

I have a 480GB SSD, 600W PSU, and 8GB DDR4 2400 MHz RAM. I realize now that the RAM and CPU won't work together most likely due to the Mobo req's.

a cheap 1155 m/b + 8gb ram = about 100, gtx1060 is 200. Then you need windows 10, a case(maybe)...

I too want to know this. Been researching a few lately but can't really land on "the one." The ASUS ROG keeps popping up in a lot of my highest rated searches. Not sure what your budget is though.

I am willing to spend up to 1k. I was debating between a 4k tv or a 1440p monitor for later this year.

The rog has a great price but I keep seeing that the quality control is piss poor. I am not going to be in the mood to send back a faulty monitor

Hey guys and gals of PC Gaf, today my Razer DeathAdder 2013's scroll wheel has stopped working. I was wondering if anyone knows of any fixes (went on YouTube and followed tutorials to fix it, but to no avail). If this is the end of my mouse's gaming life, what new mouse would you all recommend for me? I don't mind paying for quality, but that quality has to last me a long time. I loved the feel of the DeathAdder and might just get another one, but I felt that I should ask the experts, you folks, first.

What is the Nvidia Control Panel setting to make 1080P not look 'foggy'?

I remember someone saying the Video card should do the rendering, not the monitor. I'm not sure which setting is supposed to do this?

Hey guys, problem I've had since I built back in Feb. 2014. My headphone jack has never worked. All drivers are up to date when searched, and if I plug my headphones in to the front panel they don't even show up. Here's a quick part list for what might matter?

CPU: Intel Core i5-4690K 3.5GHz Quad-Core Processor
CPU Cooler: be quiet! Dark Rock 3 67.8 CFM Fluid Dynamic Bearing CPU Cooler
Motherboard: MSI Z97-GAMING 5 ATX LGA1150
Memory: Kingston HyperX Fury Black 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR3-1866 Memory
Storage: Crucial MX100 128GB 2.5" Solid State Drive
Storage: Western Digital Caviar Blue 1TB 3.5" 7200RPM
Video Card: MSI GeForce GTX 970 4GB Twin Frozr V Video Card
Case: Fractal Design Define R4 w/Window
Operating System: Microsoft Windows 8.1 32/64-bit

Anyway, I have a Sony Gold headset that I'll usually use with the wireless dongle, but sometimes I just want to plug them in and go. Any suggestions?

Guys I'm having a slight issue. I just upgraded to a fully module psu. An evga 850 supernova. Prior to the switching. I shut down normal. I unplugged the power cord and then proceeded to do a switch. Now with everything connected my 1tb hdd is not working / responding. It doesn't appear in the bios with 2/3 wires tested. My ssd that holds my os is working fine. Did I fry my hdd?

Yes. HD cable is connected to the mobo, all my front panel cables are connected. Had an issue with a USB cable in the front unplugging itself once, so I made sure it was all secured.

what is a great 1440p monitor that has g-sync?
if you feel like playing the refurb game. one of the nicer high end monitors with the specs that you are looking for, and IPS to boot.
REFURB Acer XB720HU for $387
I went with the Dell S2716DG for $450. its a nice monitor no doubt, but whenever i hop on my wifes 27" IPS monitor i get a little jealous. but then i remember i have 144hz and gsync and im happy again.

Like Vipu said, first verify that the actual hardware is functioning before getting into software. Check the connection at the front panel, then check that the headers are connected to the right pins on the mobo.

Just checked, it's all connected right. A quick note, my speakers plugged into my rear IO work just fine. It's just this jack, so I narrowed it down to the front panel and it's all there.

Do you have a mic input on your front panel? I'd try a mic in there also. You could just have a dead input jack on the case.
