I am trying to decide which of the 1070 models I want to buy in one or two weeks. As quiet as possible would be nice, performance too, of course. Just a sensible card for mainly 1080p/60 ultra and some VR later on. If you could take a look at my regions pricing chart, what would be a sensible choice?

Palit Gamerock

and if you want a cheap ugly looking card.

I have the MSI Gaming X. the fans hardly spin up and when they do they don't run constantly. just on/off to keep the temps under control. never goes over 40%. they are hardly audible until about 70% which i have never had them reach only when i set them manually.

g6TEyFc.jpg

I bought it since I could get it very cheap but every time I play DOOM or The Witcher 3, the fans start making lots of noise. So bad that it is really very distracting.

Anyone else experienced this with this card? Or knows a possible solution?

Thanks a lot

Thanks guys! The Gaming X was always on the top of my wishlist because every review praises it and it looks premium. However, that card is on the pricey side when compared to the recommended price of 379$ for 1070s. I secretly hoped that there was card that was almost as good, but maybe not as popular, so it would be priced a bit more competetive. I could do without the looks when quality and performance are solid.

the MSI Armor should be a bit cheaper than the Gaming X and still looks quite nice.

The start menu on my PC (Windows 10, latest update) is constantly flickering when I attempt to open it. When it's doing that I can't click anything so I have to go through search to open something. Anyone else had this happen?

Guys I'm new to building PC's and looking to build my first one before the end of the year. I know I want to build one with the Node 202 case as the base with an i7 6700k and looking to put a 1070 in there. Just not sure how to go about deciding what cooling accessories and motherboard I'd need, aside from that motherboard having to be a mini itx. Halp!

Fill this out and we can help you.

Your Current Specs: CPU / RAM / Motherboard / GPU (Graphics) / PSU (Power Supply) / Case / HDD (Hard Drive)
Budget: Price Range + Country
Main Use: Rate 1-5. 5 being Highest: Light Gaming, Gaming, Emulation (PS2/Wii/Wii U), Video Editing, Streaming games in HD, 3D/Model work (and what program), General Usage (Word, Web, 1080p playback).
Monitor Resolution: What resolution will you be playing your games at? Are you going to upgrade later? Are you buying a new monitor?
List SPECIFIC games or applications that you MUST be able to run well: Is 30FPS acceptable? 60? 144? How important is PhysX / SuperSampling / CUDA to you?
Looking to reuse any parts?: List make and model (e.g. Corsair 750TX, 640GB SATA HDD, Antec 900)
When will you build?: Do you have a deadline?
Will you be overclocking?: Yes, No, Maybe (This means yes!)

if you feel like playing the refurb game. one of the nicer high end monitors with the specs that you are looking for, and IPS to boot.
REFURB Acer XB720HU for $387
I went with the Dell S2716DG for $450. its a nice monitor no doubt, but whenever i hop on my wifes 27" IPS monitor i get a little jealous. but then i remember i have 144hz and gsync and im happy again.

looks like I missed the deal, but all good I didn't have the cash atm

I have the 1070 Armor and its is a great card. Really quite, keeps cool, has great performance and is priced lower than the Gaming X version. It doesn't look quite as nice, with no RGB lighting but its still a fine looking card.

Hello GAF o/

My Corsair CX 750 fried a couple of days ago and today I'm buying a new one, but, I want a NoBreak to support it too, but I don't know what to look for.

Any model that outputs 750w is alright? Any brands or models to recommend?

Thanks in advance.

I have heard bad reviews on the CX series so that doesn't surprise me. The Corsair RMx PSUs are good. EVGA are great as well if you don't feel comfortable with Corsair any longer.

I got rid of my CX750 to switch to a EVGA G2. Got a lot of good reviews.

Pump seems to have failed on my EVGA hybrid kit for my 980ti :'(

Had to happen fucking 12 HOURS before DX comes out, too...

Pretty positive I'm outside the RMA date too as a I bought it September of last year. Was looking at this:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835186096

As a quick replacement. Obviously going to miss the DX launch regardless now, but eh T_T
It has a 1 yr warranty, call them for a replacement.

I'm putting together my first PC build, and I'm looking to get some advice on what I've put together. Here's the build I have so far http://pcpartpicker.com/list/rVPbhq. I'll be using the GPU from my current PC to save some money. It's a PSNY Geforce GTX 650 ti (1Gb). My goal is to build a PC my girlfriend can use for school, and that I can play PC RPGs on. I'll be playing games like Numenera, PIllars of Eternity, Divinity OS:2 etc. I have a PS4 so I won't use it for the resource intensive games like Witcher 3 or Dark Souls 3. So is this a decent build for what I want? Would it be possible to knock the price down some? I'm guessing I could go with a cheaper CPU and do a solid state/regular HD combo.

Thank you both. I had mine CX 750 for a couple of years, and gladly it survived many blackouts. You guys changed my mind about buying another CX 750, but I mislead you without giving enough information... Sorry. EVGA G2 is really well reviewed, but, is waaaaay above my budget(in Brazil), sadly. The RMx series are 80 plus gold certified and I still trust Corsair, since I had a good experience with it, but it is 40mm deeper conflicting with my fan.

I thin I'll stick with CX 750 for now. Thanks for the response and sorry for misleading you without enough information :/

Don't go with an old cpu, here's one with skylake. Skylake build

You can knock another $40 off by buying a Windows key from r/MicrosoftSoftwareSwap.

I can't get it to happen again, so won't help much to try without HW acceleration. This bugs the hell out of me.
Did Unigine Heaven and the results seem normal other than min fps dipping to 9: http://i.imgur.com/BDFqdVY.png No artifacting here either.
Aargh.

Hmm if it didn't happen again I wouldn't worry too much really. That 9fps dip could also be explained with some background-task eating up the CPU for a split-second. Did you try to rerun the benchmark and did it happen again?

I do also have this Palit DUAL 1070 and while I start to hear it during Witcher 3 and some other games at 1440p I don't find the noise annoying at all. It sounds more like someone hoovers in the neighboring flat or something along these lines. Could you maybe try to monitor your temps, fan-speed and fan-RPM while playing Witcher? That way we could compare. I run it inside a Define R4 silent-case though with a bit of overkill ventilation, maybe that makes the difference for me.

Finally moved across country. Sold my previous setup before moving over as it was just too much to bring so going to be building a new one. If I can get everything from one place like either Amazon or Newegg it would be cool. I don't feel like having to pay for shipping from multiple places. I don't need keyboard/mouse/monitor but for cases is the Fractal R5 still the GOAT lol? Also lost my windows key so will need one of those on the cheap if someone can link me some place to snag one. Also is the EVO 212 still the recommended cooler? I had that briefly on my last build which was an i7 but it got rather toasty so swapped it out for a Noctua 6 which was amazing. This was nearly 2 years ago though so not sure what the recommended cooler is these days. I just know I don't want heat issues like I previously had with the evo. Want to get everything right the first time around. As noted I'm a bit flexible on the price so long as it will be worth it.

Your Current Specs: N/A - Only laptop currently.
Budget: $1100 but can go higher if it's viable for future proofing. Don't want to upgrade for a while!
Main Use: 3-5 I guess? General usage and gaming
Monitor Resolution: 1080p most likely but it will also be hooked up to a 4k tv so either one will work.
List SPECIFIC games or applications that you MUST be able to run well: Modern games at 60fps minimum
Looking to reuse any parts?: N/A
When will you build?: Do you have a deadline? Next couple days I'll be ordering parts
Will you be overclocking?: No

This has the AMD RX480. Swap for a 1060 if NVIDIA is your brand. Newegg is running a promo apparently so now would be a good time. I included the i7 because eventually more games will utilize hyperthreading and there's a combo discount. Drop the WIFI adapter to save $30.

Definitely going nvidia, can also ditch the wifi card. I think I want to go with a better CPU cooler. Will this one work?

Can you recommend some good case fans for the r5 that are on newegg or are the included ones enough?

Apparently it's slightly better than the integrated graphics on his CPU. Seems around half as capable as a 750Ti, which is basically the bottom end of recommended GPUs for gaming.

I'm pretty sure this isn't the thread, but I can never find the other one.

Can anyone help me with a ransomware problem? At work (small business) I'm the only young guy so I handle most of the computer problems. Anyway, a couple of weeks ago someone had all of their PDF's/word docs turned into .ZEPTO files. I googled it and saw it was a ransomeware and called our tech guys to get it off, but they're on retainer and take some time to get back for other problems. Is there any way to recover them? Most of the sites I've seen with "solutions" seem just as shady as the .ZEPTO ransomware people...

Thanks!

Yikes. 1060s seem pretty cheap, how would that fare for gaming?

1060 (6GB) is probably the go-to 1080p card, should get around 60FPS in many (if not most) demanding games right now on ultra settings. 470 is a good alternative on the AMD side. Not quite as capable, but it's also a good bit cheaper.

Tough to recommend a 3GB card these days unless it's not intended to last a while, and the 480 is just a poor value compared to the 470 at current prices.

hey guys.
So I decided to be a grown up a do a little cable management to tidy things up a bit. I'm in need of 2 display port cables and an HDMI at least 10ft long but prefer 15 just to be safe. Was going to pull the trigger on the amazon basics cable until I read some disturbing reviews. Is there a better brand I should be using? Need some power cables while I'm at it.
Triple Dell U2414H if that matters.

Yes to all three. The R5 (and Define S) have better airflow and are quieter than the s340. The NH-D15 will fit in it. Fractal's 140's will fit without issue.

Anyone recommend somewhere to get win 10 on the cheap? Is it that sub Reddit that sells ms software?

I don't know if its allowed to post the link here. But I got Windows 10 Home from one of the mods of that subreddit. Cost me $35 and haven't encountered any problems so far.

davepoobond

you can't put a price on sparks
so apparently i have bigger problems than just my video card dying.

i threw the new card in after uninstalling the drivers, and it was working without the drivers for at least 15 minutes. i installed the drivers in the meantime and after the graphics driver was installed, the monitor went black. I restarted the computer a couple of times and it would boot to windows, stay there for a couple minutes then go black.

i left the graphics card in and restarted to the bios, but now it stops working basically after 10 seconds now. so i take it out, boot to windows with the integrated graphics and its fine.

now, i thought this was an issue with the graphics card, but now i go into the bios, and try to go to the "advanced" mode for the UEFI, but it kept resulting in a black screen. i didnt try that until now with the integrated graphics card.

so i'm not sure what my next step is necessarily... do i try to reset the cmos? i don't think its a power supply issue but it could be for the graphics card. but that shouldnt prevent the advanced settings in the UEFI to come up?

So I just finished my new build with an Asus Z170-A board.

I am having a problem where it will not recognize any of my 3 SSDs on boot...

I am on the latest firmware v.1902
I have SATA mode set to AHCI

Any ideas?

Quick question: I nabbed a brand new Zotac 980ti AMP! omega edition for 430$. Is that a good buy?

For reference: here in Sweden the Zotac 1070 AMP! (normal edition) is 515$ and the AMP! Extreme 650$. The cheapest 980Ti "normally" is about 500$.

The other card I was looking at was a 480 Strix, which goes for about 360$ but should perform much worse than the 980ti, right?

Concidering these pricepoints, did I do a good thing by getting the 980ti? I'm worried about legacy and if I'm screwing up my clocking chances by getting the AMP! omega and not the AMP! extreme.

From what I've gathered, the 980ti and 1070 are about neck and neck when it comes to performance but the 980ti can edge it out if you manage to get a good clocker.
