I got some advice for you.
1) You don't need to spend anywhere near $400 to get a quality motherboard. This one is $150 cheaper and just as good:

2) Swap the Corsair H110i cooler for a Kraken X61:

3) You don't need a 1000w PSU for that build. It would be just fine with half the wattage. Get the 750w version of the PSU for $74 less. It will still be more than you'll ever need even with everything overclocked and still have headroom to give you peace of mind.

4) Swap out the Corsair memory for this G.Skill TridentZ for $37 more. It runs faster and cooler, while also leaving two memory slots open for possible future expansion to 64GB.

4) Take the money saved and step up to a GTX 1080 instead of the 1070.

5) Congratulations. You now officially have a high end gaming PC that can play everything maxed at 1440p and most at 4K. Enjoy!
If you want to get technical, it will already hold your 1070 back. Now that doesn't mean you won't still have a good experience or not be able to run everything, but it is still a bottleneck. If you don't believe me, try running some CPU intensive games like Witcher 3 GTA 5, Crysis 3, Arma 3, Rise of the Tomb Raider, Assassin's Creed Syndicate, or Arkham Knight on it. You will notice your CPU is pegged to max whereas GPU usage graphs will wildly fluctuate instead of staying at 99%.
I think he means as a relative performance jump. 1080 is only about 30% faster than a 980Ti whereas the new Titan X is almost twice as fast.
I feel like I spend too much effort talking myself out of a new Titan X.
Do they need special cooling or anything?
Hi all,
I have just gotten done purchasing my CPU for my gaming pc build. My question is simple. When I created a new build on PCPartPicker.com with the 6850k with current X99 motherboards, PCPartPicker.com noted that some "Some Intel X99 chipset motherboards may need a BIOS update prior to using Broadwell-E CPUs.
Currently, I am looking at purchasing the MSI X99A SLI Plus Motherboard to pair with my 6850k.
So here is my question:
Will the MSI X99A SLI Plus come pre-installed with the Bios Update to make it compatible with my 6850k?
try running some CPU intensive games like... Rise of the Tomb Raider
When will my 2500k not be fine?
I bought a Dell s271DG that's paired with a 1070. It's cheaper than other monitors with similar specs. It's a nice looking monitor and it doesn't scream "look at this, it's for gamurrrzzzz". 27" 1440p 144hz gsync for $450.
Thanks I will look into the Dell which looks to match up specs wise against the the Asus PG278Q which I was also considering. Not sure the PG279Q is worth the extra money.
Is there a performance difference running 4 x 4GB sticks of memory, compared to 2 x 8GB?
I'm looking at that dell as well. The Acer XB270HU is in the same spec range but carries
a higher price. I thought I wanted to go Ultrawide, but I can only really do 2560x1080 in 21:9 for a decent price.

Can anyone find a 4GB 470/480 <$200? I thought the 4GB 470 was supposed to retail for $150?
I don't think you're gonna find prices that low any time soon. I ended up paying $280 for Sapphire Nitro+ 4GB. Of course we have one of the weakest currencies in the world so, part of the ridiculous price is due to that. Can anyone find a 4GB 470/480 <$200? Congrats! It's finally finished. Finally got the last case fan installed and found out I hadn't removed the plastic from the top of the GPU.
Specs:
Win10 Home 64 bit
ASUS X99/USB 3.1 mobo
GTX 1080 Strix OC Edition
i7-5820k 4,0 GHz OC'd
32 GB DDR4-2667 RAM.
I upgraded from a GTX 690, 12 GB RAM DDR3-665 and i7-2600.
The PSU is from the old PC, it's a HX 1050 80 Plus, so no need to upgrade that.
The big beast in there is the Noctua NH-D15 cooler.
Suprisingly, even with that big ass CPU cooler and the GPU there's still a lot of space left.
Congrats!
Shouldn't the PSU fan be facing down?
Pulling air from outside the case, through the bottom vent holes. If there are no vent holes there, then this is fine too.Thx!
What do you mean?
Not sure if this is a good place to ask, but I just picked up an MSI GTX 1070 Gaming X and wondering how worthwhile it is to overclock if I'm only running at 1080p, and what sort of settings should I be aiming for in the overclock?
Cheers!
Well, I finally upgraded my PC, went from i5 2500k, 8GB DDR3, GTX 970 Gigabyte G1 to
CPU: Intel Core i7-6700K
CPU Cooler: Cooler Master Hyper 212
Motherboard: MSI Z170-A Pro
Memory: Crucial Ballistix Tactical 8GB DDR4-2666
Storage: Boot - Sandisk 256GB SSD
Secondary Storage - Hitachi 4TB 3.5" 7200RPM Hard Drive
Video Card: Gigabyte GeForce GTX 1070 8GB G1 8GB
Power Supply: Antec Neo 650W
Operating System: Windows 10 Pro
Sound Card: Asus Xonar D2
Case: Fractal R4
I guess I will be getting other ram module in a few months, but for now it's fine with 8GB. Anyways, this Crucial Ballistix speeds up to DDR4-2666 MT/s, but its latency is kinda high CL17, so I was wondering if this is a good choice or if it would've been better looking for a slower one with lower latency (CL16 or CL15?)
I hope 6700k lives up to its old brother, i5 2500k, it's been a long and good ride, thanks buddy
If your case has vents on the bottom, your power supply will work cooler that way. It's nothing major, though. Don't worry about it. Just flip it over whenever you feel like it.Thx!

Isn't the cpu fan facing the wrong way, sucking in the hot air from the GPU now? I mean probably not 'the wrong way', but it looks suboptimal.
It's actually not. The tech guy who helped me build it teached me about there was this sign on the fans which said "Up" with an arrow and that I had to use it in a particular way.
It doesn't matter if it faces up or down, you can orientate it both ways.
It's beter to orientate it down if you're not putting it on a carpet

Can you move the GPU down a slot or two to help with the movement of air?

That arrow just denotes which direction the fans move air, rather than the direction the heatsink has to be in.It's actually not. The tech guy who helped me build it teached me about there was this sign on the fans which said "Up" with an arrow and that I had to use it in a particular way.
What is happening in this picture? Why is the cpu cooler vertical?
Never seen a cooler fitted that way. I'm sure it will work, does it have an exhaust fan on the top like the HAF X? It does look really weird though. The arrows on the fans just indicate the direction of the airflow. I guess if it says up though...
Still, I would have mounted it towards the exhaust fan on the back, and to avoid dust and potential nuts and bolts falling through the grate I would have mounted the PSU fan facing down.

Does it make sense to upgrade to the 1080 if I have a Titan X Maxwell? I game in 4K and use the Vive. I heard its supposedly better for VR but I dont know how or why.
Love my new Acer Predator XB321HK 4K GSYNC monitor and JBL LSR305 Studio speakers. Everything looks and sounds spectacular. Think my setup is complete for now.
I have the 28" version. It's pretty damn good.
Edit: is that a K70 as well? I have one of those too. I wear headphones all the time though, X2's

It depends on how much you can get for your Titan X Maxwell. I sold mine for $760 so it pretty much would have been free to get into a 1080. Still opted to go for Titan X Pascal so I would have a noticeable performance jump and run crazy super sampling on the Vive while never dropping a frame.
