I just bought the Acer XF270HU, which is 27" IPS 144hz freesync for $480.

I have an Nvidia card, but getting the equivalent monitor (XB271HU) with gsync costs $770.

I just couldn't justify spending almost $300 extra dollars for gsync. Did I make the correct decision here?

well, do you plan on taking advantage of freesync? because that will cost you another gpu. however you could always sell your current gpu to recoup some of the costs.

I'm probably buying a 1080 today and am tossing up between a G1, Galax HOF, and the Xtreme.

Obviously the Xtreme is the best of the bunch but I'm worried about sound (I looked up reviews and a few said coil whine) I also want to know if it'd be a worthwhile card if I don't intend to OC very much. Or would I be better off just grabbing the G1 and saving the cash.

Or does anyone else have a specific model they'd recommend.

Nah, I have a recently purchased 1070 that I plan to keep. My main concern is, is the difference that gsync makes worth an extra $300? I've found I'm not too distracted by tearing, but input lag is very noticeable to me.

So I recently built a new gaming pc witha 6600k, 16gm of ram, and a gtx 1070. I'm still running on a Vizio 32'' 1080p tv. I realize my rig is total overkill for my display, so I've been looking into investing into a new monitor.

My budget is about $500, but I'm torn. I find a lot of 4k monitors that look great and in my price range. Most of the high end "gaming" monitors seem closer to $600 for a g-sync monitor. Probably the most competitive gaming I do is some casual Overwatch with friends.

Can I get away with a 4k display with a 1070? Does anyone else have a 1070 with a 4k display that can provide some insight?

Yes, why wouldn't you? It's still an ssd.
I've read somewhere that you can't do that with M.2 NVMe drives. Maybe it was a one time issue that just stuck in my brain.

Is there any downsides to getting the 961 as opposed to the 960? Two things I remember reading about the 951 before it was that there weren't drivers for it and that the Samsung SSD app couldn't see it and therefore couldn't clone to it.

I'm considering picking up a 4TB X300 for $120 to replace my two oldish HDDs I'm using for secondary storage (have 2x 500GB SSDs in RAID, so that's covered). I've read good things about X300 performance, the price is good for the size/speed, but I'm not all that familiar with Toshiba HDDs. Good? Bad?

You probably read that you can't boot from a NVMe unless you have compatable bios that can boot it.

I recently switched my PC to the high performance power plan and my 980Ti to maximum power instead of power saving in the Nvidia control panel. Since then I've been hearing a sharp whistling sound that dies down every once and a while. I have a 500w PSU in it, should I be worried?

Sounds like coil whine. Does the noise vary with load? 500W PSU should be fine depending on the specific unit and the rest of your system.

Can someone tell me if this is a pretty good deal? I tried pricing one out on PCPartPicker, but it came out a bit higher.

Ok. So just read reviews, then?

Yes.
There's nothing wrong with mATX or ITX.

Not really, you can certainly get lower without negatively affecting performance. For example, this build below would actually perform a little better (faster RAM, OC'd graphics) and is cheaper, and I could have gone cheaper (air cooler, normal SSD, different case etc)

Of course, there's something to be said about buying pre-build, but when you're spending that kind of money I think having control on the exact parts you use in your system is a better choice.

Notes:

- GPU was bought trough EVGA step up program from my previous 970. This was made in EU and the whole process went smooth. I never really thought about going for the 1080 since it didnt make sense from a bang for buck perspective.

- MONITOR was saved from previous build, since i dont see the value a gsync monitor without HDR has for me.

- HD was saved from previous build, since it is a pro 840 256gb. My build now consists of 3 ssds. where i run my OS from the pro 840, one 850 is for steam, and one 850 is for large sample libaries in audio production. I thought long about going for the samsung pro 950, but basically at the end of the day i could get two 850:s for the price of one 950 and could not justify that investment.

- CPU wise i thought long about going for a x99 build but it would basically cost me A LOT much more going this path, that i dont felt it was justified.

Overall really satisfied with what i manage to accomplish cost wise, audio wise, look wise, quality wise, and (hopefully) longevity wise.

*sniff*

I mailed off the 7970 ROG Matrix Platinum that I had gotten from mkenyon today... It was my first real GPU when i got into PC gaming.

I had it in my wife's PC until I got her an Asus MG279 1440p 144Hz Freesync monitor and an RX 480.

Question... Every so often Dragon Age Inquisition is crashing and she's getting a low RAM message. This didn't happen when she was gaming at 1050 and using the 7970...

Does playing at a higher resolution require more system RAM? If so, why?

So i want to get a new pc, and i've been looking around for one in m price range and found this one, i'm not planning to play loads of games on it. I have no clue what i should be looking for, aince i've never had a gaming pc before, so i really hope someone in here can help me. I want to be able to play games on low/medium settings on it, and i want to be able to connect it to my tv through hdmi. Does this pc look decent enough for those things?

Did you consider buying a new, big TV? For me size makes a lot of the experience, it's like more immersive gaming on a 55" screen when you are sitting not too far away.

So i bought a evga 1060 and my last card was a 7950 , i deleted all the driver from my 7950 , now im playing some game after 10 or 15 minute a blue screen appear that say pc shut down

So i bought an ASUS Z170 Gaming Pro last week and i've been having constant audio issues. It's like it starts to crackle and pop when i do certain things, but it's so unreliable so i can't say exactly that "this" causes issues, it just happens. I googled this and apparently it was related to realtek drivers and this particular motherboard. So i uninstalled them and went back to Win10 audio drivers, which pretty much solved this issue. I also stopped windows update so that it wouldn't reinstall the drivers every time.

But lo and behold, it still did. Fucking end me

Based on the gfx card alone, absolutely not. Other specifications are too vague on that page. Which i5? What kind of RAM? What motherboard?
Take my advice and build your own computer. It's much easier than you think.

Thanks, i'll start looking into that. I know there's shop near me that i can get a pc built at, or buy the parts if i feel really brave :')

I'm completely new to this, but what does this build look like:

http://uk.pcpartpicker.com/list/xWyFsJ

My budget can't really stretch much further but should I go for 16GB of RAM and a CPU cooler?
You do not need a cooler.

I would go for an i3 6100 to save some money. Read this for more info:
http://www.pcgamer.com/the-best-pc-gaming-cpus-processors/
If you decide to do that, make sure you're getting the i3 6100 (3.7Ghz), not 6100T (3.2Ghz). Many people tend to make that mistake and end up with an underclocked CPU.

Use that extra money to get a GTX 1060 like this one:
http://uk.pcpartpicker.com/product/...or-oc-video-card-geforce-gtx-1060-armor-6g-oc

Also, 2x4GB RAM sticks are considered a better choice than a single 8GB. The current setup has the advantage of easy upgradibility, though. You can simply add another 8GB later, if you feel the need. I'd leave it as it is. Everything else looks solid. Enjoy!

My mobo is starting to act up, strange reboots, usb wonkiness.

I have an Asrock Z77 Extreme 4 and a i5-2500k

I might upgrade my R9-280x but I don't care about 4k. If I replace my mobo, is there any reason to upgrade the cpu? Seems to run everything fine still.

I think my new Corsair H100i V2 is a stinker. My 4770K @ 4.4Ghz (1.202vcore) is completely unstable after switching from a vanilla H60. Running Prime95 for 30 minutes at stock speeds gives me 73c+ with ALL fans (Corsair ML120s ) running at max (2500rpm). I've re-seated this thing multiple times. How is Corsair with cooler RMA?

Return that thing and pick up a Kraken X61.

I'm running my 5820k at 4.2Ghz with it and the CPU never goes above 53C under heavy load. I got a really good chip however that lets me get that OC with only 1.1v.

Just realised you can buy Windows 10 on USB. Duh.

That makes sense, I'll set it to adaptive and see if it goes away.
Sounds like coil whine. Does the noise vary with load? 500W PSU should be fine depending on the specific unit and the rest of your system.
The noise happens regardless of load, I was watching GoT last night and I could hear it from time to time.

Delid. Then you can run a much cheaper air cooler quieter with lower temps.

Bit on the HDD, X300 4TB. Will consolidate my 5+ year old 640GB and 750GB drives to that. Between 1TB SSD + 4TB HDD I should be set for a long time.

Looking to do some upgrading, so a little background:

My current gaming rig is:
i7 3770 3.5ghz / 16 GB Ram / 970 GTX

My current "work" desktop is:
i5 760 / 16 GB Ram / Radeon 9700 Series

I have a very connected house, and have some older stuff running surveillance, backups, and media center activities.

My thinking was to rotate the i5 machine to act as the household server, consolidating the surveillance, back ups, and media center functions (and retiring 3 older machines).

I just need a recommendation on a case & sata cards. I need to cram about 10 drives in this thing. Was thinking of the Node 804, but my standard mobo wouldn't fit in there.

My new "work" machine would be the existing gaming rig with the i7.

Then I would build out a new gaming rig.

Thoughts?

NCAA thread?

Yep, have both open lol. Was writing another post here.

Was going to ask if anyone has any experience removing windows from cases. Considering a TJ08, but I'd like to replace the window with some mesh to put a fan on the side. Not sure how easy it would be to do that cleanly.
