That's what I'm reading.
It just shows the pin and says for instance, HDD LED pin 1 +
Pin 3 -
Cool. But I can't tell which is positve or negative.
See that arrow? That goes to positive.

Are you needing Wi-Fi functionality specifically? Because that could bring the price down a fair bit - or reshuffle it onto other parts - if not.
.
You just been photobucket'd son.
But thanks. Just spotted the arrow and thought that must be positive.
Which has the writing facing down as per pin diagram.
(What had me unsure was the HD audio pin over a few inches to the left m has the pin face up as that's the only way it fits)
The selection for Mini ITX AM4 motherboards is terrible on Amazon and really everywhere else in the UK. I'd much prefer having Wi-Fi and Prime over neither if it's only a £20-or-so difference.
Dammit, can never tell with permissions and hotlinking.
But yeah, the arrow is the most common visual reference as far as I know. Why this isn't casually mentioned in motherboard manuals, I'm not entirely sure.
Hey, I'm feeling its just about time to upgrade my mini-ITX PC (built in Summer 2015) and was hoping you all could give me some guidance. I don't follow hardware news so I don't know if the new hotness is right around the corner or if now is the time to upgrade. Ya'll seem to be into that new AMD business, which I wasn't expecting.
Anyways, here's my current build: https://pcpartpicker.com/user/MechaKirby/saved/CTRZxr
(I actually have a G3258, but I couldn't find it on partpicker at the time I archived this build)
I built that with the intention of just upgrading the CPU later, but it seems I waited too long and now I also need a new motherboard and RAM, among other things.
Here's the revised build I started working on: https://pcpartpicker.com/user/MechaKirby/saved/LRZLD3
Seems a bit pricey, so I wanted some feedback on the CPU/motherboard/RAM/CPU cooler.
I already bought the SSD in that list because 128gb was really restricting. I've also almost completely filled my 1TB, so I want to jump up to 3.
I'm good with the 960 - I can live with that for a couple more years I feel.
Any help is appreciated, thanks
So I've lowered my budget for the four parts down to around £500 and this seems to be the best I can get for that. In total it comes to around £480 or so.
Again the heaviest games I'll be looking to play are Wolfenstein 2 (because, after trying TNO on PS4, fuck those twin-stick controls), Destiny 2 and Hellblade.
Any objections/changes or should I go ahead and think about getting these parts?
Do you need a wireless mobo? If not, get a cheaper B350 board instead, put the extra money into faster RAM. The same set you have their at 3000mhz is only about £6 more.
Went over this above. The UK doesn't have many good options in terms of ITX Ryzen boards.

My main worry with that build is that I was a bit stupid when buying the PSU and got a full ATX sized one instead of a SFF. So one of the two fans on thr 1060 will be almost completely covered by the PSU. The Bitwit video on this shows that with such a setup the temps can reach near 85c or so. Is that fine fot some decently long play sessions?
Thanks for mentioning the RAM. Might put it to 3000Mhz if it's available on Prime.
To be honest, if you didn't want to spend too much, you could just upgrade the CPU. Being on that H97 board, you could pick up a used i7 4770(K) or 4790(K), and you could stick with the rest of your current parts.
Also, insert usual line about consideration of the Ryzen 1600 if you have any uses outside of pure gaming.
Depending on if you play with headphones, perhaps editing the fan curve could alleviate that somewhat? Or was this with the fan at full tilt?
That's interesting. Though, my board doesn't support overclocking I believe, so there may be a cheaper CPU I can go with? Ebay prices for 4790k's still seem to be around $250 ish :/
Do you think my build with that CPU + new SSD and HDD listed is relatively good for the next, say, 3-4 years? I will probably upgrade GPU at some point inbetween there. I do use photoshop, illustrator, premiere, etc. in addition to gaming.
Like I said, I don't pay attention to hardware news so I don't know what the deal is with with Ryzen 1600. I only know intel, really.
I'm not sure, I think he just had it on default. I wouldn't want it too be too loud as I've got flatmates in Uni this year.
My only two choices to alleviate any issues are buying a SFF PSU or buying a blower-style card, both of which'll cost me £70 or so more. If the temps won't kill the card within a year it shouldn't be much of an issue as I'm planning to upgrade in June.
Motherboard arrived today
Kind of want to just assemble what i have just cuz i can.
Ive got

I've done the same thing this evening. Essentially everything other than my GPU turned up.
Gunna wait til Friday when i have a bit more free time, but as for when i get my next parts, itll be maybe this weekend for storage and RAM, 2-3 weeks from now for GPU because that shits like $1,200cad in total and I ended up not planning accordingly for that. But at least with everything else done and set up, putting the rest together later on should be a simple process. Just really excited that this is finally coming together after wanting to build a PC since i was like 12-13I definitely would. Then when you get the other parts just throw them in and you're good to go. RAM/GPU tomorrow?

Nvidia has said they're in no rush to release Volta, given that their current lineup crushes the competition. I'm not expecting them anytime soon, but at least EVGA gives you the step up option.
Im oy picking up Destiny 2 on PC (and only because its getting bundled with GPU) so i don't mind waiting, and luckily ill have my whole build set up abd running prior to release. More immediately excited to dig into Prey and Nier Automata, but im not in too much of a rush to play either. Also already got Wolfenstein pre ordered and might do the same for AC:Origins.I'm exactly the same. Although GPU should turn up tomorrow. But then I have the painful decision of do I finish building or get straight into Destiny 2 with all my destiny friends as my PS4 copy turns up tomorrow. Most likely a bit of both.

Has anyone ordered from BuyDig before? I ordered a power supply from Newegg before realizing that it was a 3rd party vendor called BuyDig.
Edit: After 2 days of no updates they shipped my power supply, yay. Hopefully it's not doa....
Hello again!
I'll be building a new rig soon to play racing games at 1080p60fps and do the occasional photo editing. Since the z270 boards are "dead", I'm trying to put my Intel love aside and go with the red army this time.
The build I have in mind is actually pretty similar to the one from the above post. One thing I'm considering though is going with the 1200 and a cheap m-atx board for now and later change to an 8700k or get a 1600 if Intel drops the ball. What do you guys think?
Also, I'm tempted to get the 1070 instead of the 1060 6GB because it seems worth the extra and would be fine if I upgrade to 1440p.
Here's what I ended up getting due to sales and what nots. https://pcpartpicker.com/list/cKh6wV
CPU: AMD - Ryzen 5 1600 3.2GHz 6-Core Processor
Motherboard: Gigabyte - GA-AB350-GAMING 3 ATX AM4 Motherboard
Memory: G.Skill - Ripjaws V Series 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR4-3000 Memory
Video Card: PNY - GeForce GTX 1060 3GB Video Card
Case: Phanteks - ECLIPSE P400 TEMPERED GLASS ATX Mid Tower Case
Power Supply: SeaSonic - S12II 620W 80+ Bronze Certified ATX Power Supply
After shipping and taxes the total is about $770. Friend is giving me a monitor and SSD, and I have a basic keyboard and mouse for now.
I know gpu isn't ideal but I got it from Walmart for $190 which seems to be decent in this current crazy gpu situation.
How does it look to the more experienced of you?
Is there a good Full HD Monitor that's not too big? I don't have much space on my desk at the moment
edit: I've read an Amazon review on the Ryzen 1600X saying that it's RAM-Hungry and that you should buy at least RAM with 3100+ of frequency. Is that correct??
No. A 1600X is just a 1600 with a higher out of the box clock frequency. In general one kind of CPU doesn't need more or less ram then another. An 8 years old Intel CPU will end up using the same amount of ram as a modern ryzen 5 CPU, when running the same software and OS.
Higher ram speeds can boost performance in CPU heavy gaming situations though. But that's the case for all modern AMD and Intel CPUs and isn't specific to some models.
So with a 3000 frequency RAM I shouldn't have problems right?
What kind of problems do you expect?
Performance wise
Of course not.
Great, after informing myself a little, I think I'll give Ryzen 5 1600 a shot.
From what I get, it can work at the same frequency/OC of the X model and has already a decent cooler (and if it's not enough I can buy it later, saving a little for the time being), and considering that I want the possible lifetime from my components, I guess Ryzen is the most logic choice.
Also I see everyone here making builds with it too xD
Could I buy it in the recent future (september/october) or there's some warning "Wait till X since they will show Y and it might be better"

Yo. Hm, well first if you could fill out the survey from the OP that would help us figure out how best to help you!
Ryzen is the new hotness
At least that's what I'm telling myself. Whilst putting that build together, I came to the conclusion that there's always a "wait for this". So just thought fuck it and pulled the trigger.
, using a 3000 frequency ram it's a problem with the 2933 value??MSI B350 PC MATE AMD B350 Socket AM4 ATX motherboard - motherboards (DDR4-SDRAM, DIMM, 1866,2133,2400,2667,2933,3200 MHz, 4GB,8GB,16GB, 64 GB, AMD)
Yeah that's my conclusion too.
Speaking of B350 models, is there a particular one suggested? Like, manifacturer
edit: stupid question, but for example a MOBO like , using a 3000 frequency ram it's a problem with the 2933 value??

The MSI Tomahawk one is what I got and seems to be the most popular. It's mid range in price but is suitable for overclocking. The next ones up tend to have support for SLI but that's not for me.
That's just a rounding thing really. As best I can figure, though I don't understand the underlying mechanics, DDR4 RAM goes up in increments of 266.5. I mean, you can technically overclock 2400 Mhz RAM higher if you want, but it's not rated for that. And 3000 does sound slightly better than 2933, no?
Edit:
So if you were to turn on the XMP profile for your RAM, it'll just set to 2933, I think
Thank you both.
Is overclocking difficult CPU wise? I know that with the intel K series you can just change I think a parameter on the bios to do it, how does it work for Ryzen?
There's loads of videos out there specifically for Ryzen. I watched some yesterday and it all seems very easy to do. Can either do it with Ryzen Master I think it's called, or through your MB bios.
Videos go through all the parameters and how much to increase them by safely etc.
Speaking of the Tomahawk, how do you find it? I keep reading about BIOS problems, in particular with the Ram frequency and long POST boot
I saw the Asrock Fatal1ty AB350 Gaming K4 as an alternative

How does it look?

Just checked what I think is the compatibility list:
http://www.asrock.com/mb/AMD/Fatal1ty AB350 Gaming K4/#Memory
And your RAM isn't on it. It might work at higher frequencies, it might not. It might work up to 2667 Mhz instead of 2933. Hard to say, but it should post at least. It's certainly low profile, fairly reliable stuff though.
Argh.. What about the b350 Tomahawk? I'm looking at the website but can't find the information
