I really like to see Final Fantasy VIII remade

I know it might not be a popular choice, but a remake of FF8 would be pretty awesome.

Imagine Balamb garden fully realized with todays graphics.

But not just Balamb garden, I really loved the landscape in FF8. We got Fishermans horizon, deling city, timber, Esthar etc.

I am also drooling of the thought having the brilliant FFVIII ost remixed in the same style as FF7R. I really enjoyed the updated tracks.

And screw episodic, give me the full game right away.

But considering that SE needs to finish FF7 first, I might not be alive to see a remake of this game.

It would be a good way to save the game. Same combat system as FFVIIR.

And, of course, FF VIII's music is secondly only to VI, so that would be wonderful.

fF8 remake would be awesome too, you know, even though I clocker 50 hours in the FF7 remake, It felt alittle short... So I agree on the chapters part, I know making games take a long time, but c'mon.. its like 15%? of the original...

It is a quite different game in the series up until that point, but I really - really - really liked it. Maybe it is because of the brighter tone as Resonant Arc explained. The soundtrack is outstanding as well.

So do all who live to see FFVII remade. But that is not for them to decide. All we have to decide is what to do with the games that are given us.

I'd be down for this. They can't really ruin the story or anything because it's already not very good. But I'd prefer to see them actually finish one of these remakes before jumping onto another.

I say this all the time.

Final Fantasy VIII is the game everyone wants to see remade, but nobody actually knows it. FF7 was already a masterpiece and FF9 was pretty well received for what it was.

FF8's Modern+Fantasy aesthetic is basically what Square has been using ever since the 2000s and it's the only game to actually gain something from being remade.

Type-0 was basically just FF8's concept (child mercenary soldiers) except exceptionally stupid with pure anime writing.
FFXIII was FF8's aesthetic, except again, really fucking stupid.

Say what you want about FF8, but it remains the only time-travel-based JRPG story that actually makes sense to me.

compare FF8's story to something like FFXIII-2 and it starts to look like a polished diamond.

As soon as I saw the Midgar streets in the first couple of hours, with the vehicles all over the place, I immediately thought of the city streets of Dolet in the first SeeD mission. I want it so bad OP.

FF8 maybe has the best OST of all the FF games.
Overall update to the draw/junction system and use the battle system from FFVIIR and then we have an awesome remake!

The original FF8 would have been magnificent game, if it had had an extra year of developing time.

Considering remaking the game with Square's shitty action combat would basically ruin the one thing the original game almost going for it I can't say I'd be enthusiastic about it.

The sad thing is proper remakes that just addressed the core issues FFVII and FFVIII suffered from would probably help out a lot but we just don't live in the right timeline for that.

FF8 is my favorite, I would love to see it get the remake treatment. I loved the junction system even though I know a lot of people hated it. You could essentially break the game right away with Card Mod, and I loved how you didn't have to manage MP or even use the game's draw function - just keep stocking spells with Card Mod to max your stats, keep getting cards by playing the excellent Triple Triad or turning monsters into cards. Hell, I only draw spells from enemies to use against them or heal/buff my team, which I always thought was a cool mechanic.

I also loved how junctioning the GF's provided unique skills and benefits - they felt more than just a "Press X to do lots of damage and watch cool animation" spell. They might give you a status attack slot, or an ability you can use in battle or in the field. I always thought FF8's system was unique compared to other FFs, even though some of it was broken. I mean, people actively play through this game AVOIDING leveling up because of the odd game design.

Plus the music is incredible, and the story is batshit crazy.

Me too, probably my favourite of the series after or joint with VII.
luckily SE feels the same, just gotta get FFVII Remake out the way first

I.... I don't know, this used to be my best game ever (before I switched to HL2, then TLOU, and finally ended up on Tetris), but I played it when I was 10 and it confused my mind, I started thinking things like "I want to be like Squall, I don't need anybody, I can make it on my own", so it messed a bit with my life. Even if such outcome is nearly impossible, the plot and characters make sense just for an immature teenage audience, especially the ones that are alredy stone cold like Squall. I don't see it as the epic story that FF7,FF9 and X have, delivering such remake might not have the same audience as FF7. I see Square more likely to remake FF9 and FFX instead.
Anyway, yes, seeing FF8's world remade with Next Gen graphics would steal many hours of my life <3

They were barely able to remake a portion of VII..

I wouldn't expect VIII anytime soon.. but I feel ya brother..

Considering it is one of the highest selling FFs of all time, it's bound to happen. It has the esthetic and base for it to appeal in the modern day.

You could also get lionhart on disc1 i think.

If Square were still at the level they were at back in the day then I'd be pushing hard for it, but with how they are now... Not so much.

I'd still play it though, and probably be disappointed like I am with FFVIIR.

I appreciate the fact that they've gone back and are remaking FFVII (a game that wholly warrants it), but I can't say I want S-E to do that for any other game in its catalog. Even if I were, FFVIII would be WAY down the list (it's very middle of the pack and I don't think there is much to be gained from making it more modern. Just make a new game with a similar design philosophy).

I don't see how you salvage FFVIII. The leveling system is so broken (you only make the game harder every time you level up). The draw system is boring and tedious AF.

The story is so bad it's insulting.

All our heroes who just recently met all actually grew up together and were raised by the game's main villain. The all got amnesia because of magic. Except one guy who just never bothered mentioning it to everyone else because his feelings were hurt they all forgot.

Tell me how you retell THAT without making it sound stupid as hell.

Replayed the og, PS1 version FF8 recently for the 1st time since 1999 and that was all i need to know this game doesn't need a Remake. The storyline and characters are nowhere near as good as FF7, not even close. The dialogue is excruciating too. Since I was 16 at the time, the fact it was a big silly teenage melodrama didn't annoy me but now it definitely did.

Despite all the candidates, FF7 is the best game Square ever made, has the biggest fanbase and is viewed by the world as their magnum opus which is why it got this special treatment and no other FF will.

Thats why FF8 need a remake since they can change stuff around.

I doubt any Final Fnatasy will get the remake treatment FF7 is getting.
Id love a remake of 8. Id also love a remake of 9....
I think Final Fantasy 6 is most deserved though and needed.

Final Fantasy 4 is the underdog though. Id be happy with any of those 4 getting a remake. Remake 2 of them this Gen and other 2 Next gen lol

Why are people doubting this? Honest question. I feel like if this game is a big success, why would they not look at doing more of these sure fire hits instead of rolling the dice with more 15s?

Oh god please no more remakes

....but if they decide to do another one, I hope it is either V or VI.
EDIT: actually V with today's graphic + Zodiac Age job system would be pretty awesome.

I'd take a FF9 remake over anything they'll ever give to me
I feel like IX is the one that needs a remake the least. It's the most "complete" game. Plus the characters may feel a bit uncanny in full HD. But yeah a remake would be glorious.

Honestly Xenogears would be the best I think.
I'll take that over any other game and would buy whatever console it comes out on in a heartbeat.

Most deserving definitely. Not most needed though. FF6 fits perfectly with it's high quality 16-bit sprites and music.

I would like to see it with Octopath Traveler visuals, but I wouldn't want to see it go the same route as something like FF7 Remake.

I would like it if they redid the level up system. Monsters scaling to you in this kind of game is stupid.

As far as the story goes, they have my blessing to give no fucks and make it even more bananas than the original.

The best Final Fantasy, and I never even finished it because of the battle/level system. Farthest I got was the beginning of Disc 3 (PC version) and couldn't beat Edea.

Anyway, Squall Leonhart is my favorite video game character of all times. Give me FF8r and give me FF8: The Movie featuring Tom Cruise as Squall!

Agree with this. Replayed FF9 2 years ago on the PSN HD version. Beautiful game. Doesn't need a remake.

As others have said FF6 is the most deserving. I think it's the only other one with a slightly similar feel to FF7 both in atmosphere and aspects of the story. It would look good seeing that world come to life properly without the limitations of 16 bit.

I'm sorry but it's my least favorite main FF.

Then again, judging from FFVIIR,the remake could end up being a re-imagining that has very little to do with the original and i may end up liking it.
