Lol, right, like Adama would be a Cylon.

Or is he?

Nah, I doubt it :p
Amazing episode, was interesting for them to kinda touch upon the philosophy of the Cylons. That dream sequence was also strange, but damn.

Already seen the series twice, but my love for BSG compels me to at least check in :lol

Maybe I should finally watch the blu-ray box set I got a few months ago.

I think I say this every BSG thread but be sure to watch "Razor"(listed as S4E01 on Netflix) right after S2E17 "The Captain's Hand". Released as a movie special between Seasons 3 and 4, Razor takes place right after the aforementioned episode in Season 2.

You're a lucky man. Each time I rewatch the series I'm sad that it ends. Sci-Fi doesn't get much better.

I love the mini series but always get bored during season one at some point and never finish. Someday I will.

Absolutely sure of this?
I wouldn't mind viewing things in the order they were released, though I have kinda screwed up by watching Caprica when it aired :p

I'm not sure, but I think if you watch it after 2x17 - you end up accidentally spoiling some minor stuff from Season 3.

I'd hold off on it until after you're done with 3. It's a nice little respite between those seasons, honestly. A palate cleanser.

If you're watching on the Blu-Rays, they should be the first two episodes on the S4 Blu-Ray anyway, so if you're going in order, you'll just run into em that way.

OH: Some of the episodes DO end up having extended cuts - you gonna watch the broadcast versions when you get to those episodes, or are you going to dive into the extended versions instead?

Yup. I just double checked and the recap at the beginning won't spoil anything you haven't seen already--neither will the movie since it doesn't use any sort of flashback narration.

For all and intents and purposes Razor is Season 2. I always suggest watching it in chronological order as the events and characters arcs it covers will not only be fresh in your mind , but relevant to where you're at in the story. Trust me , you're not going to want to go alllll the way back to Season 2 after watching the Season 3 finale.

That's what the rest of us did. Worked just fine. In fact, I'd argue that getting some distance on that particular story HELPS before you dive into it.

My problem with watching Razor during the back half of S2 is that it pads out a season that is probably a little too long as it is already.

But it's up to the Squid, really. :)

Alrighty, I'll just do that then.

S1, E9 - Tigh me up, tigh me down.

Haha, oh god, you're so crazy Gaius.
This "Adama is a cylon" plot-line is so hilariously bad, the only substance to the rumour coming from a.... lying Cylon whose methods of sabotage relied on lies and fear :p

Yep, this is definitely a weak episode. I really don't care for the old drunken colonel.

This is the only TV show I've ever really cared about in my ten years of adulthood. I love it. Have fun!

Oh, I love reading people's reactions as they go through bsg for the first time; so damn good.

I hated the ending the first time, but found a much greater appreciation for it the second time. Definitely go all the way.

Yeah, it's pretty alright, I guess.

How could you forget the best one?

I'm getting my men.
"You're making such a mistake!"
I AM GETTING MY MEN!.

Unfortunately some things just don't work as good just because so much time passed. The whole early season 3 angle worked so well because of the current poltical climate. That's something that's hard to reconstruct on a rewatch.

don't need another lost

The ending is magnificent, people are wrong.

I found it so-so my first time through and then when I re-watched it everything just fit perfectly.

Why the heck has Gaius not mentioned that Boomer is a frakking Cylon?
Don't answer me, I'm sure they'll mention it.

I love how Gaius fantasy lady had a different interpretation of that ancient prophesy.

I kinda don't care for what's happening on Caprica at the moment, just wondering where they're taking this. I guess that Cylon will defect to the human side or something, but for now it just doesn't interest me seeing a pair run around away from Cylons.

Colonial Day, here we go!

Yeah, this looks like another snooze fest.

The series is awesome, even if the ending is shitty (which it is), it is very worth of the ride. First two seaons are marvellous, and the character's arcs stay rock solid trought the whole experience.

The series only gets weak on the mid 3 season (writter's strike) and on the last 3 chapters or so. The rest? Greatness. Probably the best science fiction story ever told on TV, even if its ending is ripe for an "End of Evangelion" type of remake.

Compared to Lost? Hahahaha.

oh my gods.

You guys can't be serious, can you? Do you really want to compare the critical reception / acting awards between the actors who played the two main characters I was specifically complaining about (Katee Sackhoff and Jamie Bamber... has anybody heard of these names before or since?) versus Lost actors like Michael Emerson and Terry O'Quinn? Surely you can't be that delusional... And for the record, I wasn't exactly holding up Lost as some crowning achievement in television acting, in fact I didn't even compare the two. There are plenty of shows out there with quality acting (Breaking Bad, Deadwood, etc. etc.), so I just expect the shows I watch to not have horrifically bad acting like with those Starbuck/Adama characters....

Katee Sackhoff is in Longmire right now btw, so...yeah people have still heard of her. Although I'll always think of her as Starbuck :lol

well ben and locke were the best performances in lost. lee adama and starbuck are not in their respective show(although they are among my favorite characters). they have their moments.

Just stop after Season 2 and it is the greatest sci fi series ever made. But for the love of god stop after Season 2.

watch it the whole way through. missing out on season 3 and 4 means you're gonna skip some of the show's most interesting sub-plots. not to mention the soundtrack goes to god-tier status in season 3.

Loved BSG.

I'm curious though why was this show like a shining diamond amongst the sea of muck that Sci-Fi channel shows?

I wasn't too keen on BSG's ending but it wasn't hideous on the same scale as Lost. BSG's ending seemed like it at least tried to pull together the threads which started unraveling during the 3rd and 4th seasons.

All in all it was still the best Sci-Fi show I've ever seen.

Schpoilers Kobold's Last Gleaming:

Haha, Gaius is so messed up. Looks like his waifu is jelous.

Oh damn, that was a nice punch, Apollo. Loved that!

God damn it Gaius, just tell them about her being a Cylon already.

"I didn't know you were that religious", Adama being a boss.

Cylons everywhere!

Gods are real, the myths are true, yadda, yadda!

Onto part 2 now.

The two Lost performances you mentioned were fantastic, so no argument there. But at the same time, I loved Katee Sackhoff and Jamie Bamber in BSG. Not as good as Locke or Ben in Lost, but not bad at all for me.

Besides, there were performances in BSG that were much more memorable than Starbuck or Apollo in my opinion. Like Like Eddie Olmos as Adama or James Callis as Baltar.

Just stop after Season 2 and it is the greatest sci fi series ever made. But for the love of god stop after Season 2.
Some of the best stuff in the entire series comes after season 2, though...

For this comparison to work, it'd have to be something closer to "Terry O'Quinn and Michael Emerson" vs. "Edward James Olmos and Michael Hogan."

or "Edward James Olmos and Mary McDonnell"
or "Mary McDonnell and James Callis."

If you want to compare Matthew Fox and Evangeline Lilly to Jamie Bamber and Katee Sackhoff, that makes way more sense. I still think Bamber/Sackhoff did more with their characters (and more convincingly, too) than Fox/Lilly did with theirs. To each their reach, I guess, but it sure seems like you're unnecessarily stacking the deck to justify your opinion, when you don't have to reach that hard.

edit: Yeah, that ending to S1. So good. And the intro to Kobol's Last Gleaming pt1 blew my head when I watched it. The cutting, the shots, the MUSIC. That's the Passacaglia, and it's so goddamned evocative.
