Okay, Season 2 is so far not as good as Season 1, which is probably due to them stretching it to a massive 23 episodes o_O

I'm up to the first 2-parter in season 2, and finally things are getting moving.

I think it's so cute that Squiddy *likes* Gaius. :p

Can't wait till your review of S3Ep4. The last few lines of that ep. are one of my favorite moments in television.

Not going to spoil anything for you Squiddy.

Katee Sackhoff is in Longmire right now btw, so...yeah people have still heard of her. Although I'll always think of her as Starbuck :lol

Don't forget she will be one of the bounty hunters going after Vin Diesel in Riddick when it opens in September.

But Gaius is a great character. I always liked him. If anything, the entire series I just always felt bad for him.

And S3E4 is Exodus Pt 2, right? The line right near that end that breaks me nearly every single time is "Not all of them." The way it is said, and then the music becomes dominant in the mix. Damn...

The upcoming Flight of the Phoenix and Pegasus are amazing episodes.

The Pegasus/Resurrection Ship arc is the best group of episodes of the series. Exodus Pt 2 is my favorite, but that cluster in the middle of season 2 is just the show turned up to 11 for several episodes in a row.

Love this little mental break down Gaius went through this two-parter, definitely saw it coming. The boomer/chief encounter was awesome, I had been looking forward to it for ages.

I thought I was going to mind all this mythological stuff, but it's honestly been alright so far, because they've managed to squeeze in alternative, non-theist, explanations for most things (like Gaus just being straight-up mad, but he's still my fav :p).

I approve of robo-sharon, she's so much better than the previous schizo-sharon.

I do wonder where they're going with this Zodiak-based mythology, but at least they found earth. Kinda odd how they were teleported to earth (or I guess it was just an image/hologram) and then suddenly back aboard the ship.

Up until this point:

Everything that happened while Adama was unconscious wasn't very interesting imho, especially that little Caprica trip human-blonde had. The moment Adama came back, things got interesting - I guess it's because he has such force in his scenes.

I must say that I am impressed by what is like 8-9 year old CG.

Of course, episode 8 is pure filler about a character I couldn't care less about.

You guys can't be serious, can you? Do you really want to compare the critical reception / acting awards between the actors who played the two main characters I was specifically complaining about (Katee Sackhoff and Jamie Bamber... has anybody heard of these names before or since?) versus Lost actors like Michael Emerson and Terry O'Quinn? Surely you can't be that delusional... And for the record, I wasn't exactly holding up Lost as some crowning achievement in television acting, in fact I didn't even compare the two. There are plenty of shows out there with quality acting (Breaking Bad, Deadwood, etc. etc.), so I just expect the shows I watch to not have horrifically bad acting like with those Starbuck/Adama characters..

I might understand someone saying Jamie Bamber but no, I will absolutely not agree with the suggestion that Katee Sackhoff is a bad actress.

I actually really enjoy the stuff during this time period with
with Tigh in command. It's a great display of his character. You see that he really isn't suited for the pressures of full command. He is a good executive officer, but he just does what he knows during those situations. He can't see into them like Adama can. Can't see past the military training and his own ego.

Huh, what character? And it's not filler, I thought it was a neat idea and it also starts something important.

Those were the initial impressions, I don't really care much for Adama's second in command, and I've seen this "video journal"-format so many times in sci-fi shows - though to be fair to BSG, they were probably some of the first to come up with it.

I like season 2 but it does have a bunch of filler eps near the end, like "Black Market" and "Scar."

I'm not comfortable with the word filler to describe anything in BSG because I think even the worst episodes offer something of worth but I can understand the distaste for "Black Market." It is the most hated episode.

"Scar" is definitely not filler or of bad quality though, so...

Well, her character is pretty damn annoying in season 4. But in season 3, Katee and Michael Hogan owned the damn show. Both were killing it that season.

I didn't like Tigh at all on my first time through. On my second watch, though, he quickly became one of my favourites. His character arc through the show is really great to watch. He'll grow on you in the later seasons.

Also, why hasn't the OP commented on Good Lighter/Admiral and Commander aka the Adama family theme?

The first time I heard it play with its introduction in "Hand of God" I knew I was a slave to the show. :p

The best music, especially when combined with the scenes on the screen, was the intro to the 1st part of the season one finale.

It's all great though, McCreary is awesome.

Not just a Marvel movie - the universe. Basically - he writes the leitmotifs for the superheroes, and draws them into a cohesive thematic whole.

It should happen. One of the bigger shortcomings of the Marvel movies is that the music is pretty bland all around. Imagine the added impact if the scores to the films were even remotely memorable.

re: the news-crew episode, the music is pretty much the best part of that episode. Specifically, the resurrection of a single cue. :)

The music gets progressively more awesome every year. Season 4's soundtrack is just...

This has been my fantasy dream since phase 1 ended and the summation of those film scores was mostly entirely forgettable. Just imagine they all had each their own distinct themes woven coming together for the Avengers via McCreary. *swoon*

Yeah, the S4 OST is absolutely insane. When they first announced the tracklist for it I couldn't believe Season 4 spoilers
They dedicated the whole second disc to the final episode :lol Fucking insane. The Assault On the Colony piece is absolutely ridiculous. 15 minute epic.

Yep. Season 4 music is rad.

The closest anyone came to making a memorable score for a MCU movie was Alan Silvestri, but it is still far short of his best work.

But screw it. This thread has made me want to blast the soundtrack to BSG at home. Going to be a good afternoon indeed.

Here we go, I've heard good of this one.

Will update this post with impressions

Amazing episode. This was on-par with the highs of S1, I absolutely love what they're doing with robo-sharon. Starbuck's laugh so annoying, they've kinda turned her into a pilot simpleton after she displayed some character progress in the baby-making manufactory episode. For shame, but the rest of the episode was great.

I've owned the season 1 boxset for 4 years and I've still not watched a single episode. I should really give this show a go.

God damn, this is off to a great start!

Schpoilers, to be updated as I watch:

Damn, damn, damn - she's the admiral?
There are going to be power struggles all throughout this episode, nice.

Okay, I would like to know how they managed to escape the Cylon virus considering that their ship looks super advanced. I would not at all be surprised by them being replaced entirely by Cylons, though that would be too obvious.

Though by the sounds of it, they might have defected from the fleet - escaped the battle, letting innocents die in the process.

Nope, she is totally going to interfere with the runnings of the Galactica.

For me,
man-tears at "Laura."
