If the PlayStation 3 survived and won in the end, and the Pro as well, in terms of SALES......

Then I have no doubt that the PlayStation 5 will be a resounding success in terms of sales and reception.

Heck, I'm predicting the exclusives themselves will sell even more due to the unique factor that PlayStation 5's SSD and Tempest Audio Engine brings in the gaming experience.

I know this may sound like it's obvious, but based on the state of the forum at the moment, I don't think it is.

The PlayStation 2 and 3 were less powerful than the Xbox counterparts, and yet, they succeeded massively in terms of both sales and software reception.

Why am I mentioning this now? It's because it's time to get very serious about the realistic scenario that Xbox may experience: A losing battle with the PlayStation 5 despite it being more powerful.

If the Xbox Series X had 13 Teraflops at the very least, then maybe the multiplatform gamers would have switched to the Xbox permanently for next gen, but that's not the case here.

Cerny pulled off the greatest magic trick with his emphasis on the gaming experience of load times and auditory experiences. Horror games, Shooter games, Open World games, all these types of games will have the potential to innovate with the technology that PS5 possesses: the 9GB/s SSD and the TEMPEST 3D Audio engine.

So GAF, is it time to wake up to the truth?

Is it time to........ENTER THE MATRIX?

Only nerds care about specs. That's why PS2 and Wii are 2 of the top selling consoles of all time and why the Switch is selling so well. Certain people have to get excited about specs though since that's all they have.

PlayStation will continue to do well. The more surprising thing would be Xbox actually selling well at all.

B-b-but all the Xbox warriors said that this gen is over before it's already started! There's even a topic on the front page about it.
MS #1
Nintendo #2
Sony 3rd Party.

Xbox Series X would be more compelling to me if it had games like Jade Empire, Crimson Skies, Knights of the Old Republic I & II, Jet Set Radio Future etc. Great games that were intriguing.

Not likely, unfortunately.

I'd say Nintendo would produce games like that and, to a lesser extent, PlayStation.

We did had Kaz Hirai back then and capable leadership to right the ship.

Now both him and Shu are gone, one of best high profile game tester.

It would be successful no doubt but xbox is looking rather strong I would say. Phil Spencer, lot of game studios. We are already seeing fruits with games like gears tactics.

7 long years of being in the gutter do that to a certain group. sadly, a lot of them boys didn't get a chance to celebrate with their comrades recently

Gaf is the worst place to go by.

Gaf also said this gen would be shit because PS4 and Xbone were obsolete hardware, but combined they sold 150+M consoles and PS4 alone was a massive success.

People going by specs alone will only end up looking like a fool.

I'll just tell ya idc how successful for the PS5 is idc how strong it is etc.. as long as naughty dog and developers can do what they want To do. I just got done playing uncharted lost legacy on crushing and here are some Screenshots in the 1080p Setting on ps4 pro. If the devs r happy, we get new and great innovative games= I am happy= the consumers are happy = ps5 success,

And that infamous thread before PS4 was out saying that it's dead in the water, Sony will go way of Sega etc.. due to X360... so many crows got served they almost faced extinction

Saying ps3 won in the end is like celebrating the guy who was in 2nd place for 7 years.
Yeah they sold the most (took them long enough) but nobody cared by that point.
Also money on it that ps3 only sold that much because buyers of Xbox 360 eventually purchased the ps3 sometime down the line probably for shits N giggles.

I'm sure you can find a few fans going wild over the "victory".

You are absolutely right.

PS3 gpu and split ram was far worse than what PS5 has to offer against X. PS4Pro vs X also did not matter much because Pro was already pushing lot of pixels and the gap to X was some 40%. PS5 and X are pretty close than what people like to believe. I cannot see how 1800P or something on PS5 is going to be deal-breaker for any gamer. 99% people won't even notice it when you are gaming at such high resolution. As far as I know even most PC gamers with high end gfx card prefer 1440P.

And Xsex is "barely" faster anyway, it doesnt matter.

This is not 720p vs 1080p situation anymore, like xbox fans are trying to make it

If PS5 version have 10% less pixels etc, nobody cares. But if PS5 SSD offers features that xsex cant, even casuals notice and talk about it because that is the true next gen feature

Not really. The market changed. The world changed. Everything is different now.
We have smartphones, iPads, streaming, Netflix, etc.
Can't compare. Doesn't mean it will be the same again.
Only time will tell.

With luck, it's a 1800p vs 2160p one.
Well I don't think that this is true, because pixels grows on x and y axis at the same time and ratio is constatnt (would be nice if 21:9 would be supported though)....power difference probably does not warrant such difference. But will see.

You'd have to be delusional to think the PS5 won't outsell the Xbox. It has a bigger fanbase and xbox will likely flop in Japan as always which is fair.
Not to mention the naming convention for the new xbox is terrible, more so than the WiiU.

However that doesn't mean the Xbox isn't the most powerful, because it obviously is and you'd also be delusional to think otherwise. Xbox users are saying it is more powerful because it is.
If you're mostly a third party gamer the xbox is currently the better alternative, at least for now on paper. Time will tell all when they both release and get comparisons.
They'll likely be close enough that any normal human won't care or be able to tell the difference though.

We get it your a PS fanboy, and there are xbox fanboys, but surely you've made more than enough threads on how insecure you are about the teraflop situation.

I am pretty sure the PS5 will sell better than the Xbox.

Xbox still has better hardware though and if the price is right it can still do really well.

Well, yeah.

However I can't be the only one who was going to be PS5 only but is now getting both. The gulf will be smaller this time. MS have laid a very strong foundation for next gen with the One X, BC and Gamepass.

Leave Xbox alone. It's not their fault they still peddle halo and for a for the last fifty years.

Only even bigger nerds (or whatever else people want to call them) care about actual console sales. Especially when they reach 50 million+ which at that point it doesn't much matter to the person who invested in that console because it's not a flop & he/she will have a supported console. Sales only matter to the player if it's a total disaster (Wii U/Dreamcast style).

Oh & FYI, specs matter. It mattered when the ps4 had better in-game performance & resolution this gen, it mattered when the Xbox 360 got better multiplats itself (Skyrim springs to mind), so it'll matter next gen as well. Specs impact the in-game experience.

Nothing has changed really nor is any features from the new consoles going to change people's mind IMO.
When all is said and done it will still come down to the games themselves, the genre, variety, etc etc, etc.
Closer battle (probably generation end with 10m difference between the 2), but PlayStation as always will still dominate world wide.

The reason for that isn't a strength per say but perception plus Japanese developers not taking the same amount of risk with Xbox like they are with PlayStation.
Without the support of those niche games that bring the variety, unique experiences and flavor to the mix the console line ups are rather pale, same game, new entry.

Nah it will be 80 % at 2160p vs 90 % at 2160p or whatever it is, dynamic sacling both at 60 FPS is what we will see I believe, I am sure digital foundry will find some leafes of grass half a mile away with a lower spec shdow under it.

Or both will be 4k60 and series x will do more with RT as an option.

Microsoft games are not getting better (Halo 5, Gears 5) their exclusives aren't producing at levels that they should, games are a HUGE factor in console sales, games like God of War, Last of Us are system sellers.
