If you had to honestly say right now - do you see all these gaming companies as a business or your friends?

They're all businesses with the sole purpose of making money.
How they go about making that money is what defines them.
The developers are either making games to bank or because they have a game they want to make and show the world.
The best is the latter.
 
No company is your friend. They exist to make a profit and increase shareholder value. Never confuse a company with a friend, be it one you do business with or one you work for.
 
I have never seen any company as a "friend". There are companies whose products I enjoy, and when I no longer enjoy them, or they make serious missteps that completely changes their business, I move on.

I was a huge Oakley fan since my childhood when they made BMX grips. Then followed them into sunglasses and sportswear. But after they were bought by Luxottica in 2007 and their product prices began to skyrocket (with quality also declining), I walked away from them.
 
Even the most charitable of indie devs isn't your friend. I think there are definitely developers that care about their player bases and want to do right by them, and it's fine to support artists / businesses you feel are respecting you. That's just a healthy business relationship though as opposed to the toxic business relationship most of triple AAA seems to be going for. Don't mistake a healthy business relationship for a friendship though.. Unless you're hanging out with the dev for a beer on a frequent basis you're not friends.
 
Yeah me and Sony grab drinks after work every Friday. Sometimes Square Enix and Capcom come too and we'll all go to a nice restaurant.

Also used to be quite tight with Sega, but since his marriage to Atlus I hardly ever see the dude.
 
Are you serious? I don't give a flying fuck about this or that company. They make entertainment products. I'm a paying consumer, not their friend. I'm not "supporting" a company just because I like their games. If they make a good product at a fair price I'll buy it, they make a shit product, fuck 'em.

Should be the answer at every age...


...But I know someone who phoned to Nintendo to tell them someone was pirating their games so...
