Nice! Soon to be the #1 pre ordered game in June too.
It looks fun, charming, and designed to be played and enjoyed; not milked for MTXs and alternative pay schemes

Still cool as the game looks really fun. But the fact cod is #9 kind of makes the whole list irrelevant as we all know it will probably sell at least twice as much as any game on that list.

I usually ignore threads for games that don't interest me, but I wonder if the same gamers (who aren't a young teen) excited for something like this are the same people making fun of the aesthetic of a game like Dragon Age Veilguard.

Just asking because idk how adults can play this stuff without their kids or something. I don't watch cartoons anymore so something like this would never interest me. I played Minecraft, Terraria, Mario, etc, with my girls growing up, because they loved it, but cannot stomach them as serious contenders for my time when so many other more mature games exist. Another example is people who make fun of Fortnite because of how cartoony it is, do those same gamers play Astrobot?

I think ultimately people have to remember that gaming is supposed to be for fun and entertainment.
I had more fun and joy playing Super Mario Wonder than many ‘realistic’ AAA games.

If you do have kids though, playing these cute games co-op with them is a great way to spend an evening.

You can have a good or bad "cartoony" art direction, people dislike Dragon Age Veilguard's aesthetic because it looks like shit, independently of it being "cartoony" or not.
How can you even ask this question? It's the same deal with people shitting on games going for realism as them supposedly looking the same (they don't).

How relevant is this in real world effect? I want COD to fall, but not this year... Not happening.
It just says about IGN reader base.

People who play COD dont visit IGN. In fact most of GAAS title players don’t go to gaming sites cause I have never seen a multi title win readers choice award despite their popularity.

astro bot is a children's game that is based off a generic tech demo, sony has to step up and bring real games like infamous or something.

" Children's game" "Real games" "Generic" "Tech demo"... fuck me for such a small paragraph that's a lot of Fanboy drivel Bingo entries.

Makes me wonder if Astrobot will be the new Palworld.

*everyone will forget about the game 2 months after its release and go back at AAA games

Some of the takes, my lord.

This game is the third iteration of an already existing franchise, only made because it became popular over time. So no, people "won't forget it after 2 months" the same way they didn't forget the previous games after 2 months.

And it doesn't need Palworld's sales to not be a fad, unlike Palworld.

It’s pretty heartening to see. Astrobot is the kind of game that was surprisingly absent from the MS show, considering they have Double Fine and Rare. Only Nintendo are currently catering for a wider audience, and finding success, so I really hope this game is popular.

Oh please he’s right.

It’s not any different than elitist gamers calling games “movie games” or “walking sims” or asking why any game with a decent story isn’t a movie.

Goes both ways

This is factually a game aimed at children based off a tech demo. Doesn’t mean it’s bad or adults can’t play it. But it IS that

Are you forgetting the VR game? Where you rescue the bots. You don't rescue any bots in the tech demo but you will in the new game. This game is for anyone who enjoys platformer games and just wants a fun time playing video games. That doesn't make it a kids game.

No wonder, it looks like a game where gameplay is king, like your average Nintendo game. Not the usual walking simulator Sony is so fond of, made by people that would rather be working in the movie industry. No tiresome talk about narrative, messaging and representation.

I'll get it when it comes on PC.
You are correct and also no forced DEI shite or ’diverse’ characters. Just a straightforward fun game that will no doubt sell millions on PS5.

Sorry but you really are 100% the representative of bad opinions, anything you say just solidifies that tag.

Astro Bot seems to be one of the most shilled games I've ever seen. Not as bad as Knack when it was announced on PS4. I don't believe the hype at all, smells very artificial to me.

It's a sequel to an obscure 2018 PS4 game.

Your facts suck.

- The game is based off one of the best PS4 games last gen, 90 in MC despite being VR-exclusive.

- There are more kids playing COD than Astrobot. Edgy kids love pew-pew COD, not a tasteful game like Astrobot. Facts.

If this was Sony during PS4 this wouldn’t be a big deal at all. A nice surprise sure, but people wouldn’t be hyping it up or downplaying how good it looks.

Really think the two extreme viewpoints on this game comes down to PS5 releasing so few 1st party games.

two emotional responses.

Im not sure why you guys are so defensive over this. I never said the game is bad, or that adults cant play it. All i said was the game is being marketed towards kids. Which it is. All you have to do it look at the character design.

What you're telling me is Sonic isn't primarily aimed at kids... because adults play it. lol

Lets take GTA.

This is not marketing to kids. But kids play it.

This is marketing to kids. Adults will play it.

Stop taking it as a diss. It is what it is.

sometimes i really think some other people here need to swap tags with me.

So, a minor title like Astrobot is more highly anticipated than major Xbox titles?

Who would've guessed?

More wishlisted, not necessarily more anticipated.

There are 30 million GamePass subscribers who have no need to wishlist any of the games launching day and date on GamePass.

I mean, what is even your point? People had a problem with how the original post made it dismissive towards the game.
Are you even going to address the "generic", "tech demo" and "real games" parts? I don't think we should respond to every dumb claim out there, but no one should get mad when they get called out for shit like that.

All I read in that guys post was its a sequel to a game that was aimed at kids and was also a glorified tech demo.

sounds harsh but it kind of really is that. I will still buy it. but im not going to deny that.

and yet, those same dudes who took offense to his post would have no issue with people calling story based games "movie games" or "walking simulators". Look at how Hellblade 2 is mocked.

It's a sequel to a retail PS4 game, and it's painfully obvious why he went to the "children's game" route when he later strated to sperg out about "real games" or some shit.

Other people being dumb as fuck with stuff they don't like is not an excuse.

No offence to nobody but there are seven games on that list I would rather play than astrobot

But each to their own I guess. IGN members are a different breed…….

It's actually aimed at people that are between 30-50 years old that grew up on platforming games like astrobot.

I'm not sure how old you are, but we people born in the 80s have nostalgia for games like these. In no way is this game solely designed for kids. They literally wouldn't understand have of the references like the characters or the music.

I don't put much stock into metrics like this. It's not at all likely to be an accurate reflection of how well these games do comparatively. That being said, I do think it bodes well for the idea of Astrobot getting noticed. Regardless of how it does versus, say, Doom. It's simply one more indication that gamers, PlayStation owners especially, have a hunger for games like this. A game just being a game. Not yet another cinematic narrative adventure.

With Astro Bot rescue mission Sony managed to capture the Nintendo magic already.

This is why I am not shocked the high praise this new game is getting. Mid 90s on MC is highly likely, and I am also not shocked at some people desbilief/suspicion about the praise and GOTY possibilities.

I don't think it's going to be a big seller (and Sony knows that) But one thing is for certain: In the so called "dry year"... PS keeps making arguments as a must have platform.
