IGN plays Sunset Overdrive

I'm not a fan of digital games, if and when I get my bundle on Tuesday. I'll be selling my code in the Buy/Sell/Trade, probably $50. So it can go toward buying the physical version.

Sure.

Traversal looks too slow (which I understand is because you need to shoot thing but it's just looks it would get very tedious after a while) and the shooting looks very unsatisfying and easy.

Gameplay seems incredibly repetitive, "go here push this button" or "go collect thing and
bring back to me".

Humor is trying way too hard to be edgy and hip.

Story doesn't look interesting or even fun just like as I said before it's just trying too hard.

I like the art direction and the intention of not taking itself seriously unlike most games that get released these days, but it just seems like a game that's better on paper than in execution.

I guess in the end it comes down to videos you see of people playing the game. Traversal is not slow, if you know how to move you will be moving pretty fast across the city. I find myself slowing down in order to get accurate shots on enemies while grinding.

The side missions are pretty repetitive and it seems those are the ones you are watching. The main missions have quite a bit of variety, don't want to say too much so I don't spoil for others. But yes, the side quests pretty much involve going to points on the map and collecting stuff.

Humour of course is very tough to get right. I think a lot of the comedy is pretty cringeworthy, but there are genuinely funny moments that made me laugh. I don't usually laugh at games.

On the story front, I'm really not paying much attention to it to be honest. Some cutscenes are funny and stuff but other than that I don't think it's supposed to be taken very seriously anyway.

The gameplay is fun, I just feel that it's tough to judge this game through videos. Especially watching people who don't know how to play properly. On top of that, I think most people showing videos are only showing the first couple of hours which means they don't have some of the cooler abilities you unlock later on. There are some issues with the game ie side quests, the music (for me at least), some pop in. Overall though, it's a fun game. Hopefully after reviews come it'll change your mind.

It is far from shit though.

Edit: welp, he's banned, all that typing for nothing lol.

Thanks for the great impression! Are you reviewing the game for a specific site?

I hope you like Halo because this game looks like shit.

I too vote for this for OT. Sunny K can live on as a Gaf meme.

I am a bit disappointed with the speed and I find the "edgy" punk/dude bro aesthetic cringeworthy whether it is self aware or not. I'm still getting it solely because of the amazing/different art direction and style. Hope it's a solid 15 hours that is fun to play as a bit of a palette cleanser.

Been playing this all weekend and I've been loving it. I think Munish pretty much nailed how I feel about the game. After unlocking some abilities you are zipping around the city. I like the music and as far as humor goes, I found myself chuckling more than cringing. But humor is a really hard thing to get right, especially with games. So it's no surprise some people will hate it. 8 player chaos squad is total madness. Need to play more of it.

"Wow, they gave *game name* a *score* but give Sunset (a completely different game that they haven't played) a *score*? What a shit site"

and variations of it will be said at some point during the next 24 hours. But which side of the warz will say it? Turn in at 3AM EST to find out!

I understand intent, but it seems they are pushing it too hard and just trying to force it a bit much. It's almost too self-aware of itself, and it goes overboard with it.

Like when I saw the stream of the first encounter of the spawner with the computer voice lady, it was clever at first but the humor of her pointing out tropes got old extremely fast.

But who knows, just noticing what I've seen so far.
Hence why I said "you don't have to find it funny" you don't.

Just as long as you realize it's not meant to be taken seriously.

I heard this game's story is supposed to be a parody rife with satire of the games industry. I wonder what could possibly be the moral of the story.

Yeah, I sucked in chaos mode lol. Definitely need to build up my character before we go at it again.

That's the understatement of the year.

I don't even know how to describe what the fuck was going on at the 58 minute mark here:

http://www.twitch.tv/insomniacgames/b/581051630

That was just freaking off the walls, insane, explosions freaking everywhere, wtf, colourful chaos of apocalyptic awesomeness wrapped in shell on insanity. I'm surprised the console doesn't melt from all that shit going on.

I want this game. I want it now.

I remember playing R2 co-op after it launched with a group of high level players, and at one point we were fighting something like 80+ chimera at one time with some elites, explosions and medic beams going everywhere and i though to myself "What is this madness we created?"

Chaos squad is like that too.

I loved that co-op, if its like that in SO then that is going to be a blast.

You have created...awesome. Now distill it into one package...call it something weird, like, Sunset Overdrive...and then pitch the idea till someone funds you. Then CREATE THE GAME AND SELL IT!

Foolproof! Listen to me I know what I'm talking about!

Looks like Dead Rising meets Infamous based on the videos I've watched. Nothing has really grabbed me though, I could see myself having fun for a few hours but then getting bored quickly.

The bullet sponge bosses feel counter-intuitive to it's design, considering you need to keep grinding backwards and forwards...ruining that sense of momentum and flow.
You can choose to grind backwards and forwards. Or use any bit of the environment to move and get more style = more activated amps.

Best part of Ratchet games were those new game +
I'm sure this will have something similar though I wonder how that would effect drop in/drop out co-op

I'm not sure it has drop in/out. The only multiplayer mode is Chaos Squad and I'm pretty sure you squad up before.

SP is just that, SP no co-op.

I'll be playing Bayonetta Wii U until 3AM to see any potential meltdowns and or greyed out names.

I have this on gamefly so I'm renting this regardless as I don't have an Xbox One but will be playing it on my cousins console.

Holy shit. Looks absolutely insane.

Will a review thread get made when they start hitting? Are those threads still a thing with the OT thread changes?

Hoping for a pleasant surprise because I'd like something else to play on my Xbone other than Forza but from what I've seen thus far I'm really not expecting more than 7/10's.

Not that it matters anyway as the content of the reviews are more important than the scores...

It's so hard to gauge how this game will sell, I mean what do you compare it to?

I think a lot of people will buy or not buy based on reviews, people are genuinely unsure if they will like it.

I'm getting it for sure, you have to support games like this... These guys have made a GAME.
That sounds dumb but these days games are big budget and low risk with serious stories and all that... This is crazy shit which doesn't make a lot of sense, and I appreciate that :)
