IGN: ZombiU Video Preview

I don't think this game has bosses, mainly I saw that some points just get very intense so it may feel like a boss fight just to get pass that one area

I'm good with that

Wasn't a zombie boss what OctoG123 was helping that dude beat in the Pre E3 Nintendo Direct?

those clips were still just pretend though for Miiverse features sake

Yeah, I don't think bosses would be appropriate in this, just climatic events like desperately trying to get to safety from a zombie horde.

I'd consider the zombie you fight in the basement of the nursery as a "boss," considering the number of hits it takes to down her...

I enjoyed the hell out of Red Steel. It was good fun and the controls never got in my way, simple because the game was slow as shit anyway. The sword fighting though? That was literally worth a 0/10 score. Concentrated horridness.

Red Steel had a demo at the Wii E3 revealing, and even the Wii IGN team (Matt, Boz, and Craig) were really down on the game's controls. This is coming from the same people that paraded The Conduit, so you know something was wrong if they disliked a "mature" third party Wii exclusive.

The conduit hype was stupendous considering the developer involved. Anyone who touched Red Steel before it came out basically hated or thought while the potential was there it just wasn't being seen. That attitude sinks in and despite initial sales it quickly turned on ubisoft as word of mouth spread. Red Steel was so bad it caused the sequel to fail despite it being much improved and different in style from the first. Ubisoft has learned some lessons from RS but in general hasn't learned the bigger ones.

Same here. I didn't mind it as much as everyone else did. I'm not too worried about this game.

Well... i went to gamestop and added this to my pre-order tonight. The videos show great potential, so I'm placing my bets on this as being the killer launch title for the Wii U. NSBMU looks good and all, but it's still just... another NSMB game, just prettier and with a few new features. Not too exciting.

History may point anther direction, but the hope is that they are fully aware of the disappointment of Red Steel and want this one to succeed.

Bit of a change of topic, but would anyone else buy an HD Remix of Red Steel 2? I'd totally love to see Ubisoft take one more crack at that series. Maybe make it 2 player co op with the second guy on the Gamepad or something. And they should put the Zombie U dev team on it :)

Nah. Unless they added more areas to the game I wouldn't be interested. The game is already nice looking enough as it is.

Doubt bosses are going to be the typical bosses we're used to. No giant creatures, etc. How easy it is for you to die pretty much stops that. Something like the Nurse at the bottom of the nursery is what we should be looking for. Then again that fight itself raises some questions. That wasn't a zombie you were fighting it seemed but a ghost or something like a ghost but that could be harmed by physical weapons. We know there are spitting zombies in the game but I wonder what else is in store for us. Wall crawlers maybe? Zombie dogs, birds, etc?

If ghost are at play I wonder if animated skeletons could be in the mix. People going zombie but not fully? Or even other humans that you have to be wary of? One of the biggest things about any zombie story is that you don't just have to be worried about the undead but other humans you could encounter.

Now that would be brutal. Encounters with humans that can turn hostile or not...

Spitting Zombies eh?

Left 4 Dead spin-off confirmed
me running away pissing my pants confirmed

The vomit actually hurts you, and obstructs your view, but doesn't attract new zombies.
But the idea is similar to the boomer. The Spitter pushes you out of your comfort zone and is a serious threat considering that he can take away a fifth of your health with his vomit.

Usually luring zombies into a narrow corridor is a great tactic for killing them one by one with the cricket bat, unless there is a spitter among them. Then you'll need a corner or a silenced gun.

ZombiU day one, no question. Video just furthered my desire to play this game. WiiU, I cannot wait for you to join my other consoles underneath my TV.

Boomer? I wasn't thinking of the Boomer.

I was thinking of this monstrosity right here.

She also has spit that hurts you and can take away your health in seconds and pushes you out of corners/comfort zones.

I'm gonna sign up for Gamefly and rent it. Can't pay 60 bucks for a 10-12 hour single-player game no matter how good the story. I've been burned so many times in the past. Either gna rent or get it when it's like 25-30 bucks max.

It's a 15-20 hour single player campaign mate. And I can't see anyone being able to manage the shortest time on their first playthrough. You're going to die. A lot. Plenty of secret areas, plenty of exploration needed to find said secret areas and Survival Mode unlocked, which means you only have one life to complete the game, when you complete the game for the first time.

And assuming you have friends and family you've also got what looks like great local multiplayer entertainment too.

One other thing that most people aren't giving Ubisoft Montpellier kudos for is the exceptional level design. From what I've seen so far the level design is probably on the same level of quality as the best from Valve and Retro, which has really surprised me tbh. :Oo

Okay, I laughed when I saw they were straight up calling it "the Spitter."

The multiplayer being 1v1 local only (unless I missed something) is a bummer. Online and multiple survivors would have been great.

Another thing I've been thinking about is their fastest tester taking 12 hours and 30 minutes to reach level 14. That's an average of 56 minutes to complete each level from 1-13 (making a big assumption that each level takes the same amount of time via a mean average), and that this same fastest tester (again using the mean average) will take 16 hours and 20 minutes to complete the game from start to finish unless I've got my maths wrong (which is quite possible because I'm mathematically dyslexic).

And this is their fastest tester lol.

Ubisoft said a while ago that the playthrough time was between 15 and 20 hours, and I just assumed that meant the average playthrough time for Joe Average. If that average playthrough time is for testers then I think we're all going to need a bigger boat lol.

Sounds good to me then. I remember playing RE 4 for almost 24hours straight to complete it on the first day of release. If it took me less than 3 hours to complete it after a few games, then its safe to say id be happy with ZombieU's game length.

Yup, one of the best features of the game is that every game you play is going to be different due to zombies and scares being different in terms of locations and numbers. This must have been a right bastard to test, and makes me think there'll be a few Class A bugs here and there still. Regressing bugs (playing through a game and following reproduction steps to confirm that a bug has been fixed) would be next to impossible to do, unless previous savegames from previous builds are compatible.

I think what will make this game long to beat is that it requires the player not to rush. It looks like people who play it like a usual FPS don't last long.

The GameSpot walk-through has not been posted in this thread and it's pretty good:

It shows weapon upgrades, some Zombis and areas I had not seen.

Judging by the footage the game looks pretty cool, but that overhead smash got boring pretty fast. I think they could have varied that up a bit with some other moves (unless they have and I've missed it).

Excellent walk-through, thanks! I could only watch a couple of minutes because it's one of the first areas of the game and I really didn't want to spoil it.

I watched enough to confirm that this is still my most-anticipated title this year. The atmosphere is spot-on survival horror. Moving slowly through corridors to find supplies, checking corners, etc. armed only with a cricket bat... great stuff. Been waiting for someone to do this genre right again. If they can nail the story by letting you discover what caused the outbreak, how it got out of control and perhaps how you can help to rebuild or find a cure, I'll be playing this for months.

Another demo.

This one is from NintendoWorldReport with Gabrielle Shrager (Story Design Director) walking the player through the demo.

Edit: Not a very good one. Just further confirms this game is better if you able to take your time with it and play it at your own pace. Though the guy from NWR had to be playing it for the first time so that doesn't make for good gameplay.

OK I don't think I can resist this game anymore, regardless of how scared I get in zombie games :)

Gabrielle was fucking with that dude after he "restarted", she told him he had to look into his bag all the while knowing from the sounds that a zombie was coming up the ladder.

I found this E3 2012 Demo play-through on youtube that I haven't seen before; the guy makes it through the entire demo and it's over 20 minutes long. I'm so glad I pre-ordered this game.

Part 1
Part 2

This thing is looking more and more killer-app. Winning over against mega hyped mega budget games like Halo 4 at PGS awards is pretty big.
