The only thing I like about RPG lists is that if there's games I haven't played listed It makes me want to try them out. I saw that Baldur's Gate & II are available on mobile or steam and I always hear praise for them so I want to finally give them a shot. Do they play like Diablo? Also PC or mobile which feels better to play?
.
Why would Oblivion be on the list?
They are nothing like Diablo, if you played PoE or even Divinity Original Sin the gameplay/style of the game is similar to that.
I would play them on PC personally, though I did not try Mobile version.
Diablo tries to be accessible and arcadey as much as possible, combat is mostly holding down left-click until loot pinatas pop. Baldur's Gate tries as hard as possible to replicate the pen-n-paper Dungeons and Dragons experience and is much more complex.
Diablo is much more action-oriented, Baldur's Gate is more hardcore roleplaying, they're going for different things.
Speaking of WoW, I'm just now realizing FF XIV didn't rank when if MMO's are counted XIV should absolutely list.
Hmmm well I'm still interested so I guess I'll pick it up for PC and give both games a shot. Are they long? I would skip to II but I I feel like I should give the first one a try.

You can skip BG1 and just go to 2. The game is a direct sequel, but you won't really feel lost if you don't have the background. Both games are long.
BG2 > BG1 in the same way that SMB3 > SMB1
Lol. Final Fantasy 7 at 52.
List is horrible.
I really liked Dragon Age Origins but that seems to be considered pleb around here
Yeah, should be lower.Lol. Final Fantasy 7 at 52.

I'm hoping to see Chrono Trigger in the top 5. Played the game for the first time last year and it was excellent overall package. This was also the "bad* PS1 version. I need to try out FFVI and other games around that time. Also, hope Earthbound is high is well.
The funny part about Final Fantasy ranking is that I personally think DQ games do what Final Fantasy started so much better. They have way more charm while Final Fantasy is almost unplayable at this point. No Final Fantasy V, yet they included the first, which doesn't even have the quickie charm of Dragon Quest I. Lame.
Also, no PD Saga is weird. (Never did play it, though it's one of those musts in the genre.)
I do respect some of their other choices. Contrary to GI, they actually know their stuff.
BG1 is about 30-40 hours total.
BG2 is however long af. Probably takes around 70 hours minimum for full playthrough. Most of the content is high quality too.
BG2 is the superior game as seen from this list. It improves pretty much everything over BG1 (except exploration which was nicely done in BG1). If you feel like it you can start directly from BG2. It works as an own game as well.

Stop talking about FF VIII, I'm THIS close to starting a new playthrough since yall keep talking about it and I've got a bunch of games I've yet to finish, like Yakuza 0 and Persona 5!
Tactics Ogre at 20, trash list!
Reads like a list of random popular RPGs.
I'd rank top 10 like:
10 - Dark Souls
9 - Fallout
8 - FFVI
7 - Kotor
6 - Mass Effect 2
5 - Morrowind
4 - Suikoden 2
3 - FFXII IZJS
2 - FFVII
1 - Baldur's Gate 2
Thanks for reading everyone! It's so awesome to see so many people discussing dope RPGs. It's a really special genre.
Chrono Trigger is #1 and Earthbound is #19.
FF7, Chrono Trigger, and Earthbound are my 3 favorite RPGs, so I'm happy that at least two of them placed so high.
Regards to Persona 4 scoring significantly higher than Persona 5, is P5 that much of a downgrade to P4? I'm still about 10-15 hours in P5, but game is not gripping me and I decided to take a break from it compared to P4 where I could not wait to see what was going to happen next.
Yup, I just saw the listed updated now. So happy to see Chrono Trigger number one! I was my GOTY last year. I need to try out Secret of Mana, since I was not expecting that game to be that high. I might try out FFVI and one of the PS1 FF games.

Wait until you see that the better FFs aren't even on it.

It's not even a matter of being fun, X's presentation, soundtrack, battle system and story are leagues above IV's. That's not to say both don't suffer story flaws but X is way smoother than IV which has a dreadful second half with weird twists that ruin the impact of previous ones. It's a shame FFX didn't make the list. And that IV made it at all. I dig me some Cecil, but come on, X is way more fun to play.
What are you talking about? FF VI is at #2. And FF IV and FF IX are also in there. Looks like the better FFs are there to me.
6, 7, 9 12, and T are on it.
They fucking nailed it.
edit: wait nope I lied 11 isn't on it. Almost.
32 - Ultima IV: Quest of the Avatar
Wow one of my GoaT RPGs made the list. Thanks for making such a great game Lord British!
Can't believe the people at IGN even know this game exists. Such an original concept for a theme of an RPG at the time.
You can even play it legally for free these days on a computer I think.
