I've no idea what any of the other features of steam are apart from Big Picture Mode. The inventory baffles me.
I just buy games with it.

The melodramatic rants like this one is why GAF is so fun to read.
Between "being held hostage" by Valve and "Microsoft is fucking PC gamers with the 360 controller and I won't tolerate it", it's just amazing.
You could just have put "Customer support sucks" and everyone would have agreed with it.
Copypasta
Yeah, people lack perspective.People have been saying this since the second Steam sale. I think it's more likely that you just bought most of the stuff that interested you already. That's my "problem" anyway.
I don't know what to say to that, I've never had an issue with Steam client performance. Occasionally I've had troubels with network performance, and sometimes I still do, but that also improved greatly over the past two years.I'm not pointing out things like In-Home Streaming and Broadcast because they're *not* great features - they're fantastic! I'm pointing out how we get things like them when the base client is still years behind in really basic stability and support.
I *want* Broadcast. I've been *using* In-Home Streaming - but I also want Steam to stop locking up my entire machine when it gets too busy because it's never been taught that CPUs can have more than one core in 2014.

You need to take a long hard look at your computer. The Steam client should not be locking up your entire machine.
It's more about how I often can't play "my own" games because their service is often spotty
Valves has so many micro transactions attached to their releases I don't get how gaf gives them a pass and shit on other company's that do it.
I've never had this happen once since I started using steam

It's fairly specific to games that use Steam Matchmaking as their online backbone, but "Offline Mode" is also pretty famously hit-or-miss-usually-miss.
They do?
Because most of them are cosmetic. I can spend no money on Dota 2 and still beat Person X no matter the amount of Pudge skins they bought.

You've never seen people complaining about Ubi, or EA games not being on there? People were moaning about Elite recently, too. People actually want less money to go to the devs and 30% to go to Gabe...for doing nothing.
Dota 2 has the best F2P model in the business, it's absolutely fantastic for the consumer.Valves has so many micro transactions attached to their releases I don't get how gaf gives them a pass and shit on other company's that do it.
They generally don't give an advantage to play, which means the base game is still balanced around what's fun rather than what can get people to open their wallets.
Microtransactions have had a different effect on TF2, in that it makes it more confusing and bloated. But many people do express those feelings.
In the sense of "whale hunting" yes they do. It's optional just like any mobile "free" game.
Still reaching out to those that get addicted to purchasing a ton of shit.

i don't share your negativity entirely but i do understand how you feel right now. They used to be one of my favorite gaming companies, and definitely my favorite in the arena of PC gaming, but over the last couple years I've started to become intensely disillusioned with them.
I'm not saying they have a pay to win model, I said micro transactions. Still reaching for those who will purchase a ton of shit.
I agree with you 100%. The main advantage of Steam over GOG are cloud saves, online leaderboards, and automatic patching. If GOG Galaxy can deliver those, I'll make the switch.I try to support GoG (DRM free!) and the like when I can. Valve are generally okay with me, but there are some things that annoy me.
-Awful customer service
-Pushing region locking on their store
-Some really terrible implementations of good ideas (Greenlight anyone?)
I just wish they didn't have the control over the market that they do. They would probably try harder to fix their flaws if they had more competition.
Their push for Linux gaming though has been amazing. I've wanted something like that for years.
I don't understand. If someone is more than willing to pay money for cosmetics then good for them. As long as those items don't affect the balance of the game then there shouldn't be a problem.
I don't think they deserve to be bashed about the momentarily downtimes
Well, if the games were DRM-free, there would be no such thing...
