Been seeing this a lot recently:

Saying Midgar from FFVII as Midgard.

Midgard is the Norse myth it's based from. Midgar is the name used in the game, across all of its media, everywhere. Midgar. No d.

On that same note, I had a friend who would pronounce Tifa as "tiffa" because "Tifa is not a name" and "It must be short for Tiffany." That was even worse.

Any names you see people say or pronounce wrong? Could be a common mistake, or it could be something only one of your weird friends does, like the example above.

That's pretty clearly "ha-doh-ken", just stressed because the Japanese pronunciation has an elongated "ou" sound.

Basically how Ryu says "Sho-ryu-ken" minus the Sho and Ken.

May-Rio always throws me off when people still say it. I know some people pronounce Mario that way in real life, but he's been telling us how to say his name for a while now.

Any Japanese game names or characther names that has a "X" in it. 90% of the time, it's "cross" and not "eks" unless stated otherwise.

Exemple:
Xenobalde Chronicles X = Xenbolade Chronicles Cross (proven by katakana on Japanese game art)
X-Nauts (Paper Mario TTYD) = Cross-Nauts

It drives me insane people saying "Eks" when the Japanese intended way to be pronounced is "Cross". I don't care about pity excuse of "Well, it's the letter X (eks) for me, so Eks it is!". Do you say "eks" by reflex? Sure. Is it right? No.

That's my biggest gripe.

I really don't hear the Hadooken at all. This is what I hear.

I hear a proper "hadouken" now, as someone who has learned a little Japanese over the years. But if you listen very closely, it sounds like a mix of both: "Ha-doo-ohken"

In natural language people can be pretty fickle when a pronunciation is wrong, or just accented or localized. Seeing how prevalent Tide-us is, I really couldn't care.
