Inconvenient truth: The only things MS did for this industry was ruin brands like Halo (that wasn't even created for them or by them), multiple studios (Rare took 20 years to release a worthy IP, lmao), introduced paid online, exclusive DLCs to games back on the 360 era to consoles that Sony then applied for the next gen and Nintendo more currently, devalued gaming with Gamepass and their own platform, and ultimately ruined their own console's value. Plus they were the ones firing the most people in all industry due to their brainless acquisition plan. I'm sure all those people feel saved as well at the moment.
We can count with one hand the amount of studios MS actually created that are currently thriving. They bought Bethesda and are yet to have a good game released, plus closed one of the studios that actually gave them a successful Gamepass release. Bought Activision to fire people from multiple studios and turned studios like Toys for Bob shells of their former selves (studios that were handling IPs like Crash Bandicoot). Basically 70 billion spent for Call of Duty. IPs like Forza Motorsport, Halo (as mentioned before), Gears of War, Hellblade II, Red Fall, Starfield, everything is failing so hard they had to start releasing their games in more places like PS5, since their own platform and freaking PC wasn't enough to cover their sales expectations...that are failing BECAUSE of their own Gamepass service.
MS is a company with a lot of money from other areas that can be used in gaming. They aren't saving gaming right now, they can't even save themselves (Xbox). They are yet to buy a studio or publisher and turn it into a better/bigger thing than they were before getting acquired.
MS is not even saving Gamepass, the one thing they created that was supposed to be their saving grace. They had to create a business model Sony couldn't compete and it ended up ruining them. Even something like Cloud Gaming has been surpassed by their competition and XCloud's investment decreased like hell for the next fiscal year so that's not changing anytime soon.
They start a plan and can't carry them until the end. They don't know what to do. They are aimless, hopeless for a reason to exist and to prove their shareholders they aren't one of the businesses dragging MS down. Their own president clearly intervened recently, that's why the sudden shift in strategy.
How's this for inconvenient truth?
