Indiana Jones and the Great Circle is "by far" the "biggest and longest game that MachineGames have ever done" with nearly 4 hours of cutscenes

"By far this is the biggest and longest game that Machine Games have ever done," creative director Axel Torvenius said in a rapid-fire interview session with MinnMax. He doesn't get specific about the exact hour count, but according to HowLongToBeat, Wolfenstein: The New Order and Wolfenstein 2: The New Colossus both clock in around the 11-17 hour range, depending on much side content you undertake. With Indy placing more emphasis on puzzles and exploration, it's easy to see how it might eclipse the studio's previous games.

Asked how many hours of cutscenes are in the game, Torvenius says "there's roughly three hours and 45 or 40 minutes or something along those lines. It's a lot." That's roughly in line with the non-interactive parts of Wolfenstein 2, as YouTube supercuts of that game's cutscenes run between three and four hours, depending on the fan who's doing the editing.

The whole interview is a fun watch if you're jonesing for more details on the game. Some other key info includes the fact that, unlike the missteps of Star Wars Outlaws, Indy will feature no instant fail stealth missions. We also learn for certain that this is the Indiana Jones game Todd Howard pitched back in 2009, and the basic story outline of the Great Circle has survived for 15 years. (Also, yes, we've already corrected that "Indiana James" typo.)

I’ve said this before, but this will definitely be a nice game to chill with over the holidays. It looks like there’s tons of exploration to do, set pieces, and puzzles to engage with. Hopefully the cutscenes are all mostly enjoyable and well-acted, too, since they make up such a big chunk of runtime.

Looking forward to this one.

Since it's an adventure game there's bound to be puzzles. If so, hopefully they're not braindead, repeated, qte, or involve any other awful mechanics modern-day games like to constitute as puzzles.

Same with collectibles and notes/recordings/etc. If they're littered sparingly throughout the level, whatever, but not every five feet.

Really just not feeling this one, to be honest. Fingers crossed I'm wrong and they deliver an outstanding game that reminds us why people all around the world love Indiana Jones.

they did kinda say that they wanted the puzzles to actually need some brainpower back when they revealed the game... so fingers crossed. I don't want Uncharted-esque fake puzzles for 20h.

and I swear, if any NPC spoils a puzzle for me like some Sony game... I'll shit on Machine Games' front door after eating the spiciest Indian food I can find!
it is a 12h train ride to Uppsala... but it will be justified!

I heard the whip tells you what to do before you even get to solve the puzzle.

Very excited for this. December is always a 80's nostalgia thing for me, with the Christmas cartoons I grew up with on TV, a sprinkle of Indiana Jones will be nice too I think.

Remember how machine games handled wolfenstein 2?

Good?

Remember how machine games handled wolfenstein 2 and ‘youngblood’? Expect the same nonsense.

how the fuck do you use Wolfenstein 2 and Youngblood here in the same sentence as if they are even remotely comparable.
Wolfenstein 2 is a very good game with some issues here and there. Youngblood is a piece of shit that noone wanted.

and even if it is "only" as good as Wolfenstein 2, it will still be a better game than 90% of AAA slop publishers try to peddle these days

Game will take some convincing to play for me, Indy isn’t a character people care about today ask Hollywood how’s that’s going, and Nathan Drake lives across the street with a game under wrap no doubt, there’s 50 hours of cutscenes? Cool story bro, MGS4 was able to do that many cutscenes in 2008.

They have a good track record. Not sure why so many are doubting these guys.

This is definitely one game to wait post release for real comments and information. After Veilguard especially, there is 0 trust in mainstream outlets. I am sure IGN will give out 9/10 either way.

Edit: Not like before Veilguard it was better. I still remember the Cyberpunk fiasco and all influencers getting those yellow chairs.

Let's see what they can pull off. Past performance doesn't mean squat these days as talent moves. Wolf: The new order was my favourite game back then.

Loved their games before Youngblood but from that I have 0 interest. Hopefully it is semi decent buy I dont hold much hope from the previews.

Or is it just one of Phil's balls in my throat?

say?!?!?

Everyone loves Indy, you just gotta have INDY show up, not some grumpy old grandpa and his nagging sidekick.

Eh. I don't know. And I speak as someone who counts Raiders Of The Lost Ark in his top five films of all time. I think everybody above a certain age with a penis loves Indy... but I'm not too sure that remains true with the young 'uns. I'll happily stand corrected if the game is a banger and sells well.

Got a gamepass ultimate 1-month code with a controller I bought, so will probably try this on PC during launch week or something.

You want a shot at the champ? [NG gif winner July 23]
4 hours of cutscenes, thats like watching 2 Indiana Jones movies back to back.

I'm not the biggest Indy fan, but I respect the gameplay loop. 1st person immersive sim that emphasizes puzzles, exploration, and Hitman like stealth will at least make it a unique experience. They didn't compromise the character by making an Uncharted run and gun game

The New Colossus was a very disappointing sequel, at least to me. I liked the story, although I had some issues with pacing and ending. I also think a lot of things were handled much worse than in a previous entry. Level design was poor, there was no memorable setpieces, stealth sucked, side missions were very repetitive and dull, etc. I never felt it deserved such high scores

Youngblood was a complete trainwreck. I'm still baffled how they could screw this up one so badly. It consistently pops up on the lists of the worst games released in 2019
