Indiana Jones and the Great Circle is "by far" the "biggest and longest game that MachineGames have ever done" with nearly 4 hours of cutscenes

They are using "4 hours of cutscenes" as if that's a good marketing point that'd appeal to gamers, especially MachineGames' fans. lol

Devs are so out of touch these days.
4 hours isn't a lot though and for a game like this, given how weird some people get about it (cutscenes), that's probably a good marketing point to their fans. I would think anyway. I still wish this was third person but will still give this a go.

Can't wait to play this, but for me over 4 hours of cutscenes isn't a selling point. Hopefully they're at least skippable for future play-throughs.

How so? Many games have way more than that.

The MGS series is practically "Movie: The Game"..
Wasn't a selling point for those games either - probably why the last one I played required switching the controller to player two to beat a boss.

The Talos Principle, Soma, Amnesia, Firewatch, Dying light... Might as well insert immersive sims in there as what is the definition of an adventure anyway? Indiana Jones has immersive sim aspects too, you sneak and steal like old Thief games. So add Thief, Deus Ex, STALKER, Bioshock, System shock, Dishonored, Prey, Metro series, Thief...

On VR, well almost all adventure games in first perspective.. Half Life Alyx, Lone echo & Asgard's wrath comes to mind immediately.

What's with these fucking takes lately?

This game looks as exciting as as a colonoscopy, the IP is also not too hot either. I love the first 3 movies. But the latest ones are not good at all. I don’t see the appea nowadays for an Indy game. But hey this is Bethesda, even before the publisher was acquired by MS, their games were a big no for me.

4 hours?

Ryan Reynolds Reaction GIF

None of the films are anywhere near that.

To put this into perspective, Last of Us 2 is over 20hrs long and has less than 2 hours of cutscenes and many thought that had too much.

I hope the game play is longer and better than the cut scenes then, i don't buy games to watch a 4 hour movie clip collection, is this their main selling point!. game play is king for me.

Everyone in here writing this off without any evidence of it actually being shite, the trailer looked grand to me, the developer has the chops and it's a bloody Indy game, I'm busting my balls for a new Saturday Afternoon Matinee type adventure game, I miss Uncharted, Tomb Raider has its moments and there's just nothing out there filling that gap in the market, so yeah I'm hyped for this... Er.. it's not an Xbox exclusive is it??

It's nothing like Uncharted or Tomb Raider though? At least, is very different due to the use of first person over third person so it will play very different

I'm not talking about the actual gameplay element third Vs first perspective, more the grand globe trotting adventure/mystery style of the game, mixing up action, exploration and puzzles

Sorry, got my info from a bad source. still, many complained about too many cut scenes and it's a long game. I don't know if Indy is as long but that seems like a lot of cutscenes for an Indy game

(It could be really good though, I'll reserve judgement)

Just binge watched all 3 movies last week to prepare for release of this.

Also downloaded 210 GB full Call of Duty package. Its COD all the way till Indi releases.

People complained that the last of us 2 pacing was bad and it was too long. I agree with that. It needed like 3-6 hours shaving off it. And thats gameplay not cutscenes.

They have a good track record. Not sure why so many are doubting these guys.
Shooters vs first person melee which has always felt awkward and clunky in the past. Jury is still out on that latter.

I definitely want to see the puzzles more so, since those were some of the best parts of these types of grandiose action adventure tomb raiding games.

I think it depends on what people call cutscenes. Here have an 11 hour version:

I’ve not seen anywhere the confirms either amount. Not like it matters, as cutscenes often add flare to a game, but just saying. I looked this up and found no confirmation.
My daughter watching me 'play' Last of Us 1.
"Uh.. I thought you said you were going to play a game"

4 hours of cutscenes is a lot when we compare with other games.

For reference, it is the length of Uncharted 4 + Uncharted Lost Legacy cutscenes combined! Even TLOU 2, which is a very lengthy 25-hour story narrative-heavy game, had only 3.5 hours of cutscenes. And even that is only 14% of games.

Do we really expect Indiana Jones to have a story of 27-30 hours? I doubt that.

That means its cutscene-to-gameplay ratio will be even higher than TLOU 2. Its pacing will most likely take a hit due to that.

Or is it just one of Phil's balls in my throat?

It's close to 5hours. If you add things like the general walking talking conversations, it can add up to 10~hrs or more.

This video has many of those general walking talking conversations. Only cutscenes length is much shorter than this.

It looks im-sim inspired design.

Pacing in those games is player defined. How much player wants to mess around.

Its not like Uncharted where developers define pacing, what player will experience.

Oops, sorry, I pasted the wrong video. It's not less than 3 hours. It's more like 3.5 hours, which I said earlier.

I’m not a puzzle guy, but don’t mind games having them if I like the rest of what the game offers. I hate obtuse puzzles though. How puzzle heavy do previews say this game is, and what difficulty?

I am not that interested in the first place. Honestly, Emperors tomb remaster would make me more interested than this.
No 3rd person, Troy baker (good but he doesn't sound like ford).
I don't think machine games now have a lot in common with my old fav starbreeze. but we will see
