James you're an Indy fan. Go into the game looking for a Indy game that is a ton of fun. Take the console war glasses off and remember its coming to PS5 in a few months.

If you still dont like it, i'll be very surprised. This game is just very, very fun, above evrything else.

Yeah I expect it will enjoy it. It seems like the people who don’t just aren’t big Indy or adventure game fans to begin with

How are people who are saying the game is one of their GOTYs (from what they've played) 'setting themselves up for disappointment'?

I’m saying the people that are reading those claims may be.

It could end up their GOTY, but I think in general there’s just more competition and many superb titles this year

There is no other treasure hunting/lost civilization-themed game this year.

Maybe if we had a new Uncharted or Tomb Raider...

So the game could end up being their GOTYs, but they’ll be disappointed because there are other superb titles this year?

How does this make any sense to you?

You’re currently unable to play this game until sometime next year, but you’re here concern trolling for others who will be playing it for themselves this year?

How does it not make sense to hype yourself up for a GOTY caliber title only to realize that it doesn’t live up to that?

This isn’t a difficult concept to follow, I’m not sure why you’re confused

Or is it just one of Phil's balls in my throat?

James .. what exactly is the point that you're trying to make?. That some folks might not agree with the high reviews?

How is that different from literally any game ever..

I'll keep an eye on you cautioning people for the same thing in other AAA review topics now.

The high reviews don’t suggest it’s a GOTY competitor, even if it did have time to meet the deadline

That’s fine, there’s plenty of games I don’t think are GOTY quality this year that I enjoyed

You claimed the scope was beyond an ND title which is just not true either

How can you possibly decide this on other people's behalf ?

What you're saying right now is no different than what someone said on an earlier page about how anyone gives it a score of 9 is wrong.

Very odd gate keeping on your behalf for other people.

It has a respectable 87 metacritic, the GOTY candidates are all decidedly in the 90s (other than black myth which was added probably due to the sales phenomenon)

Bro come on, black myth is in the TGA lineup bypassing dozens of 90 scoring games.

Are you going to be this fussy about it if games like Helldivers 2 wins GoTY awards from sources too ?

You're not being very subtle in your targeted concerns here, James :messenger_tears_of_joy:

There aren’t any “concerns”. If any individual person or publication ranks it as their GOTY that’s fine. Just like it will be for HD2

It’s just not going to happen in the aggregate, it’s not at that level of the other big players this year

?

Who gives a shit about aggregates. BG3 was the most aggregate GoTy last year, it wasn't anywhere close to being mine. What you're doing here is trying to make a point that it's not possible for a game like Indy to be a GoTY contender just because it's not in hasn't scored in the 90's.

Years and years of game of the year tracking very decidedly proves that is wrong.

I'm honestly not sure what this hill that you're trying to die upon is. Just wait till you get a chance to play it yourself, you can clearly see most critics and fans playing it so far seem to like it quite a lot.

I think it’s possible for it to be on some lists or win some awards, I don’t think it looks to stack up to the countless titles well into the 90s that have near flawless execution. I’m not really asking you about your personal opinion, you thought hellblade 2 was deserving (LOL)

Indy just ain’t that, there’s some warts with the gameplay execution, but aside from that it seems to largely deliver on its promise which is a great thing. Maybe if they improve upon it in the sequel it can be elevated into those ranks. Like an UC1 to UC2 leap

Eh, if I want Uncharted, I want a new game. TV and movies are compromised at best. Perhaps it works for franchises that have been running with silent protagonists like Fallout, but a solid Fallout game with the story of the TV show would blow the show out of the water. Proof: TLOU on HBO. The game was better in every way.

But I think I speak for a lot of fans when I say that, for the forseeable future, we don't need a new Uncharted.
I personally dont want this current ND fucking up Drakes story/legacy anymore... god knows what they would do to him after having his (and his brother) ass kicked by "strong woman" the whole last game and after what they did to Joel I still think Nathan got off easy after all.

All they have to do is bring Amy Hennig back and let Druckmann focus on TLOU.

Really weird for a "feminist" guy to push Amy out of ND...

James Sawyer Ford James Sawyer Ford You can continue this very odd crusade, I'm just gonna wait for the game to unlock now.

I hope you get a chance to play it yourself soon.
Yep and clearly that’s consistent with my remarks.

It wasn’t GOTY in aggregate, it didn’t hit that mark for most reviewers. It did for me, Indy can be the same

Nice try though, you get an F for eFFort
You guys got hooped by the tactic people like JSF use when faced with a dilemma trying to not give credit for something..... the good 'ol "IMO it's....." It's like fan warriors criticizing a giant list of good games, "but there's nothing on that list that interests me though".

Always trying to downplay something good.

But give him credit. Since he got banned a little while ago and thread locked for spamming hate, he now has to straddle the fine line criticizing without making it too obvious, or else it'll be a another ban. So he adjusted his writing style the past year.

Y'all clearly can’t read. I said kudos to the team for making a good game and that I’d likely buy it

You guys are so desperate that you have to take it to hyperbolic levels claiming it’s GOTY or more ambitious than an ND title.

Just stop. That’s all I’m not crediting it for

Man between this and the Avowed woke nonsense threads, these Xbox threads lately have been a gold mine for spotlighting warriors and their double standards. And if FF whatever wasn't a Sony exclusive at the time, he wouldn't have had it as his GOTY. We all know it.

Scope is way beyond naughty dog title. No naughty dog titles have labyrinthine levels that twist over themselves. Naughty dog has them beat on character performances for sure and facial expressions and micro Mannerisms. But to say that this isn't beyond the scope of linear cinematic titles is disingenuous and insulting to what Machine games has a achieved. They gave me something I didn't know I wanted. An Indiana Jones game crossed with dishonoured and a hint of Skyrim. It's beautiful.

Nobody is telling anyone they shouldn't consider a game their GOTY.

James Sawyer Ford James Sawyer Ford This game has leapfrogged into my GOTY category. No bullshit, no hyperbole. I think its incredible but I haven't finished it yet, so that could change.

My top 3 as it stands:

1. Indiana Jones GC
2. Infinite Wealth
3. AstroBot

No, there's a distinction between a personal GOTY and a general consensus on GOTY.

You're not following the discussion if you missed multiple posts from some users saying comments like anyone giving this game 9 or above is wrong, how this game cannot be a contender for GoTY because it didn't score in the 90's etc etc etc. Too many instances for me to need to quote them to you.

James Sawyer Ford James Sawyer Ford , now that I've put in a good few hours into the game, I 100% stand by my previous comments about this being an immersive sim. The first big hub, Vatican City, is practically like playing Dishonored or Deus Ex without supernatural or future tech. I have not seen Matty P's video but if he thought this doesn't play like an immersive sim, either he stopped after the opening prologue chapters, or his definition of what an immersive sim is very different than my own.

I’m in minor shock we got another nostalgia driven game that looks good. I’ll have to try this out once I get through a few others.

He claims it only really has one way to tackle an objective. So it’s just an illusion of freedom. Not having supernatural stuff or tech is a big distinction since that gives you many ways to approach something.

I'm not sure which I'm enjoying more.

The wailing and the teeth gnashing and the intellectual paralympics of the you know whos in these threads.

Or the game.

Probably both.

I could gulp down their tears in a splendid golden unholy chalice like Donovan and it would be worth it.

Move onto Avowed or South of Midnight for fucks sake.

Game's brilliant for anyone on the fence. 21 hours in and only just got to the third area with stuff still to do in the previous two.
