IndieGogo - Windows 10 GPD Handheld -299$ "A Laptop Fitting in Your Pocket"

Well Geekbuying did send out 40 units so far.

Edit: Are you asking if Geekbuying is legit or if you order now you'll get it?
Well I know Geek is legit (bought a GPD there several months ago) I'm just asking if the first batch of units look good or some positive impressions from some of the gaffers that got them

Geek units should be leftovers from JP most seem happy with the units but a very small minority had appearance defects/other things, your free to buy from them or wait until they have ones that will go through a longer quality process.

Any word on battery issue? I always felt like the GPD would explode if I ever use my own charger (it's would get hot if I didn't use the charger it came with)

So far there have been no explosions. Though it has only been 1 month. If you're worried about exploding batteries you should probably wait until all orders go out and GPD can take their time building new ones.

Uuuugggg I get waiting but man they got it for sale on 330 instead of 500. It's so tempting just to save that money

So, I only managed to test the SFIV benchmark and Paper Mario 2(kinda) .

This was tested with everything set to the lowest possible setting.

Next, I had a chance to mess a around with Dolphin and Paer Mario 2. PM2 seemed to run ok, but I couldnt get past the intro because I am having issues configuring the controller. Will need to play around with it a bit more.

I'll post the rest of the results tomorrow.

Hey Brainpann,

I realize chances are super low, especially because you just got it in.

I'll give you $600 for your 8750.

I understand why you wouldn't take the offer, but if $600 is agreeable, let me know. I can pay right now.

No hard feelings naturally if you'd prefer to keep it. :)

At the very least, thanks so much for taking the time to do these tests.

Yo Brainpann, hop on Steam and accept my friend request.

Over 4000 games on Steam and willing to overpay for a slightly better CPU? You're my kind of person. Don't get excited if you get a steam friend request in the next few minutes, it's probably me and not Brainpann.

Hey hey-just got a little time to check out gaf. Give me a bit and Ill run tests, check the lcd, etc. should have everything up in ahour or so.

EDIT-

Do you want me to disable the Intel Power Saving features before I run the tests?

How's Dolphin on this thing? I can't imagine it running all that well considering the amount of power needed to run it.

w00t!

Looks like I'll be the new owner of an z8750 GPDwin potentially by tomorrow.

Thanks for that quick next day shipping treatment, Brainpann :)

I was having issues with setting up the controller but not great from what I could tell. I also tried it before I adjusted the Intel power saving setting so there might be a slight increase there. I did get a small increase in PCSX2 afterwards.

Also, just want to mention that the sale to Phawx went very well. Very easy and pleasant to deal with. :-)

Likewise! :)

Thanks again!

Has anyone tested any of the Dark Souls game on this thing yet? The two games I wanted to try when mine arrived were DS and Black Desert Online.

Also, how does browsing and reading feel in person?

Is there any chance of them making a second batch? It sounds like the actual CPU hardware is no longer in production? I'm interested in this for the possibility of it being strong enough to handle indie titles that aren't likely to come to handheld even though they aren't technically demanding enough not to be able to. Games like Stardew Valley for example, and maybe Environmental Station Alpha or something.

I'm also interested in the emulator possibilities, especially because I have heard that the GPD XD naturally has an input delay of 2 frames extra than usual because it runs on Android and apparently that adds input delay that can't be gotten rid of due to the nature of the OS. Does anyone with a GPD XD notice any input lag?

Yup. But I'm.curious to know if you'll get it sended next week.

I could be wrong but I'm 99% sure that any Geekbuying orders sent now won't ship for ~2 weeks and will all be 8700s. They got 40 leftover units from the JD (Chinese kickstarter) batch, some of which were 8700 and some were 8750, and those were the ones they already sent out.

Oh yea. z8750 GPDwin is in my possession. Time to charge it up and get stuff ready.

Expect a bunch of videos to be incoming.

You are doing God work my man (hope the 8700 is still nice)

Good news is I'm still getting the 8700. So I'll be able to provide apples to apples comparison between the two versions.

As of right now, the JD z8750 is super nice.

Ok sorry for asking this but is there primer of sorts that explains the specs of the available model(s)?
I plan on getting one during next year and assuming they wont release an updated/improved model i want to get an extra one for my brother

Damn Phawx got stacks.

How long do you guys think I'd have to wait if I bought one from geek buying today?

I'm just going through my steam to see what I'm gonna play on this bad boy (hyper light drifter and Rouge legacy seem good) possibly the Pokémon unrainum fan game?

Just uploaded part one of BIOS Settings ofor the gpd win. There are a ton of options. Including switching the OS to Android?

Also there is an option to push display port through USB type C and my options are 2 lane or 4 lane.

Video is processing right now and gpdwin is still charging.

So where would be the best place to buy this?
I'm also a bit confused about the way they are handling the 8750s and 8700s. Are they just being randomly given out when you order?

Doing everything through my phone as my son is hogging my main computer to play Roblox.

Can someone post this YouTube link on dingoonitty.

https://youtu.be/mp6yKbihdWc

There are still more settings to go through. I need to charge the GPDWIN for the time being.

Getting all the prep work set up on the Win now.

Another video is uploading from my phone right now as well. You can see sound levels, size comparison, it fits in a 3ds xl case, and it supports 200GB MicroSD. Also you can see what the Samsung fit looks like on it.

I appreciate the videos as well, i'm still set on building my own handheld PC but you've done a good job of rousing my curiosity as to how good this system will work as a portable indie machine (for games that aren't on the Vita).

Whats everyones Storage solutions for the GPD WIN? Considering getting a 128GB Micro SD and the SanDisk Ultra Fit 3.0 USB 128gb (I hear it can get too hot and the Samsung one is better?) for double the storage, 200GB Micro SD might be too much.

I play Street Fighter 3 and Metal Slug on it and I have no problems with input lag.
