IndieGogo - Windows 10 GPD Handheld -299$ "A Laptop Fitting in Your Pocket"

I'm gonna sell my second one on eBay (same price as I PAID just because I'll have two with geek buying )

If anyone wants it : PM

Wow. I'm IGG backer 2000andsomething and yet I just got a text saying it's arriving Tuesday.

Out of nowhere.

Same here, well no text from DHL, but according to the tracking page it's arriving on Tuesday.

I got this to play Steam and GOG games, but I'll be focusing on PS2 emulation the early days. Valkyrie Profile and Shin Megami Tensei games first, but I wouldn't keep my hopes high.

Not on the outside at least.
Mine had a invoice tucked underneath the shipping label.
Invoice stated $80 USD but its not visible unless you open the sleeve that contains the label.
That's the US though and I dunno if the EU and other parts of the world are different packaging.

Two issues for me:

-Has anyone had issues with powering the unit on? I keep noticing that if I try turning it on when plugged in, I just get the battery indicator screen, which on most tablets happens when you just tap the button-- I'm holding it down for a second. This has also caused some issues when the unit is supposed to restart itself. It doesn't and I have to power it on again.

-I tried doing a large Windows update (feature update version 1607- that's the Anniversary update, IIRC) right when I went to sleep. When I woke up and checked the unit, it was in an off state and again no matter what I did to wake it up, it would just show me the battery life. So I unplugged it and held the button down and the unit turned off completely. Since this was doing updates, it seemed like it may have bricked the unit and it would not load up. After several attempts, it restored Windows for me and is now working,

Yeah I can't turn mine on with the charger plugged in, I'll get the battery charge screen and 5'ish seconds later it'll turn off.
I always have to make sure the battery is fully charger before updating since I can't leave it plugged in if it'll restart.

Off to a good start

Trying Goat MMO simulator on the device... it almost completely freeze every 2-3 minutes, pressing CTRL-ALT-DEL seem to unlock the game, windows is still responsive.

So far the device hasn't rebooted on itself, no artifacts as far as I can tell, maybe that a game too heavy for this device ?

Going to record what happens

Im sorta glad that mine in stuck im limbo aka Honk Kong. Maybe by the time I get it you guys will have most of the kinks worked out. ;-)

I'm actually a little worried. What if my unit was lost and that's why I've gone a week with no update.

I'd email GB but they'd just send me some canned response with bad grammar.

Yeah-I'm just trying to be positive, lol. I'm sure everything is fine though. Out of curiosity, do you know around what number you were when you ordered from Geekbuying?

Also, that last time I emailed GB, they literally wrote "Take it easy.". I guess they thought I was hassling them about shipping. It was especially funny because I was only making sure a payment went through.

I was between 250-275.

Tried updating to anniversary edition again- I stepped out and came back in to find that the system had restarted itself, but it's now just sitting on the "GPD GamePad Digital" boot screen and there was indication that anything was happening. Seemed like it was 'safe' enough to power it off, so I did a cold boot and it's restoring my previous Windows settings again...this update is either failing to install or I'm just not letting it sit there long enough.

Has anyone updated to Anniversary Edition?

I just did a few hours ago, it went fine except I was charging it so it got stuck upon restart on the battery picture, you have to unplug it so it can start normally.

try waiting a little if it seem stuck one of my device did this, it seemed stuck on the boot screen without the spinning logo, but after a few minutes it started updating again.

Thanks. Will try again and let it sit for long time if needed.

I did, although I used the update file from Microsoft as I couldn't get Windows update to pick it up. Left it on the charger the whole time, so the only issue I ran into is that reboots wouldn't work (so I just had to manually turn it back on and the process would continue). I think that happened twice.

Similar issues here with it not rebooting when plugged in, but I CAN turn it on -- hold power button a bit, wait for battery screen, and then press the power button again once on that screen. Mine turns on.

Also, some game updates:

Final Fantasy XI: Didn't mess with resolution much but it works fine at 1280x720.

PCSX2: Final Fantasy XII and Suikoden 5 ran at 20-35 FPS, which is unplayable for each. I did a little tweaking but I'm not a PCSX2 pro so you might be able to eek out some more FPS but I doubt either will be playable.

The more I read watch about this device and seeing Phawx's videos running games I really have a huge urge to buy it because I been wanting a device like this for a long time. Being able to play pc games on the go is mindblowing for me to kill time on a trainride.

But all this overheating, drivers and crashing is scaring me not to buy it not to mention usd$350 is a heavy investment to me imo.

Will GPD WIN ever have a hardware revision to fix alot of these issues or I have no choice but to mod it with my no knowledge of hardware modding?

There is a bios option you have to disable to prevent the Battery screen from showing while plugged in.

Its like S5 something.

Ill find it for you guys in a moment.

Same issues, including the flaky sleep "wake up." Although

It looks like Phawx is coming to the rescue on the "restart while plugged in" issue. Special thanks to everyone who has been posting fixes, tweaks, links to updated drivers, etc. I know someone was going to make an official OT for the Win. Any updates on that? It would be great to get a first post that would list all the known issues and fixes so far. Also, maybe a poll attached to it? So we can get a feeling for how many units are having the crashing issues versus not.

They still can't get my address right either DHL doesn't recognise my address for some reason or my unit is being handled by the office dog, asking for a refund at this point cause this is silly could order from anywhere else and it would be fine, this the fourth time they have asked.

Finally updated to Win Anniversary...now to see if that causes any headaches on this thing.

Remote play what?

Edit:

Does anyone know of an application that will zoom to window width in Windows? All of the tools I'm finding are manual. The touch zoom app is so far the easiest to quickly set up, but ideally I'd like to just double tap a window and have it auto zoom.

Was Dragon's Dogma at 720P or a lower resolution? Hard to tell from the video.

Did you happen to find this setting? Also how do you access the bios? F12 on startup?

PlayStation 4

As far as I know you need to do a workaround since you normally need a ds4 connected. Xbone and generally streaming from PC work out the box
Well I can plug my ds4 with the USB Sony dongle. But can't even install the app.

Hold down delete on startup when it shows the GPD logo.
I know I saw the setting in one of the menus but I was doing other things at the time and I didn't feel like touching it and I don't remember where.

BTW yes it can play Crysis, or at least it does until my display driver crashes.

Sorry, forgot.

There are a few ways. In windows, you can press windows key > startup and the click advanced startup and look for UEFI options.

The easiest way is to power off your machine. When it powers on wait for the GPD logo. When you see it. HOLD the del key until you get into the BIOS.

Then in the BIOS:

Advanced > System Component >

S5-Charging Driver < this is the one you want to disable

But I also disabled SD LPM Settings.

Also, the resolution was 640x480 but I used this:

to zoom in. If you go to the end of my video, you'll see that I zoom out.

PlayStation 4

There is third-party app that will let you use X-input to do PS4 remote play. But it's pay for software and it's currently alpha. Let me see if I can find it.

Edit: Here it is:

Decided to check DHL and from what I gather, they picked up the shipment yesterday and it's in Hong Kong. They estimate it'll be here Tuesday. This is from IGG somewhere in the 2000s.

Thanks, guys, Does disabling the S5-Charging Driver stop the system from charging when turned off, though?

Phawx, can you recap the beneficial BIOS changes please?

Edit: Nevermind, found your YouTube video. One or two of the stock settings on mine were different than your 8750. Made some changes, everything seems okay so far :D

Mine has been disabled for some time and still charges just fine.

The 8700 GPU is fast. Only settings I recommend are gfx boost and setting dram timing from typical to fast.

I havent heard from anyone that they couldnt boot their system, but that doesnt mean it cant happen.

But Fast timings are only marginally faster.

I know this is a long shot but has anyone put mame on this device? I can't reassign the buttons to the joystick because the tab to enable one is grayed out and can't be checked. Works on my laptop with a 360 controller but not on this one. Its not great using the keyboard with mame.

It's not working since PS4 Fx 4.0... :(

At least I would love a way to install the official app ...

Developer of that app, was oddly scrolling through this thread and saw this. Not sure where you got that information from? It's working fine with firmware 4.x.

When I tried to download it says not compatible since 4.0 ... strange.
I will try. But still anyway to use official app even with DS4 ? Just can't even install it :(

That's odd, do you have the exact URL you're seeing that? It may be a left over notice that hasn't been removed but I can't seem to find it.

Two thingss.

1.) Use Intels custom resolution to create a larger resolution to select and then install.

2.) Use the HDMI to have a larger resolution yo install the official app.
