IndieGogo - Windows 10 GPD Handheld -299$ "A Laptop Fitting in Your Pocket"

I went through far more trouble than most people have or should have and have my issues with GPD but in the end I don't regret backing this.
I've been burning through a backlog of anime and games that I've never had the time for before.

GPD released a sd card driver roughly 10 days ago and someone has finally created a Baidu account to download and rehost it so if any of you have been having strange SD card issues despite the card working fine in other devices this probably will help.

Well GPD's aliexpress store listing for the Win was gone for several days and now its back up at $400.
Someone on Tieba claimed the JD store has the revised model ready to ship so its possible the aliexpress store has them as well, trying to contact them to see but the messenger isn't working for me right now.
Be nice to be able to get the upgrade kit early.
Geekbuying's listing is still at $360 but that says the price ends in 6 days and its in the fifth round of presale with the next batch arriving the 10th.
In a week that price will probably rise to $400 as well.
If anyone interested in getting one you may wanna contact GB's CS to see if they have any in stock, if they don't you may be able to get the revised model at the current price.

The game is known to have pretty poor performance, that is what OP was getting at.
OK.

What about Abzü?
And I read lego star wars collection runs more than fine.
Lego the force awakens only reaches 15 fps.

And I read people were playing fallout, skyrim and doom 4.

Well someone contacted GPD's aliexpress store and they are saying its the revised model available and the price dropped back down to $350.

I contacted them and they told me they have no ETA on a upgrade kit for earlier models which sucks since I wanna do some comparison tests.

There is some news for the future, GPD is looking for feedback on a 7 inch laptop design proposal and they've dropped some interesting tidbits along with it.
http://boards.dingoonity.org/gpd-windows-devices/what-do-you-think-of-this-new-7-inch-laptop/

This device is an UMPC rather than the gaming console. This product is not the same series with GPD WIN, for GPD WIN series we will develop better processor. The name for this device is currently named “Pocket”, which is positioned as a portable notebook. For Pocket 2 we will also develop better processor.
Hello, victor. We are waiting for a better chip for GPD XD 2.So please don't worry. It must will be released one day.
And this new product actually should be a UMPC not a game console. So we remove the game pad.and adopt a real full keyboard.
Yes.We are develop the driver for Ubuntu now. Hope can complete soon.
I for one am happy that it sounds like there will be a successor for the Win at some point which will use a different and presumably more powerful processor.
Although considering how expensive most processors in the 4w range are compared to the Atom chips I'm not sure how viable that will be.
Also news that the XD 2 isn't completely forgotten about and that they are working on Win Ubuntu drivers should make some people happy.

Glad they intend to release a successor device to the Win. I have a lot of 3DS & Vita games I still wan't to finish so the price of a niche portable device isn't worth it for me at the moment but I would like one in the future.

Any chance that the device will appear on Amazon? There are too many issues currently for me to chance shipping from China but I would take a stab at it from Amazon Prime.

Steam has added Steam Controller support for all X-input devices! Which means that you can now have all the wonders of steam controller customisation while using the computer mode on the GPD Win. That's amazing news :D

I wish GPD would just put a Steam controller on it. It would be perfect. Then literally every game would be playable with a controller somehow.

Is it possible to change the GPD Xbox button into a Steam button?

I mean, with this Steam update, it is a steam controller now. You have access to the same kind of customisation that is available for the official steam controller.

So my unit seems to have a problem. first the keyboard didn't work now the whole thing wont turn on. When I plug it in the light is blue with a pulsing pink or red light. When I unplug it the light stays blue but nothing appears on the screen.

I've had that happen before and for me when it did I just kept trying to turn it on over and over until it finally started working again.
I had a list of what the LED's mean but I can't find it.
Email kendyzhu777@softwincn.com or karenzhou@gpd.hk and ask for a list of what the led colors mean and they should give you one.
The keyboard issue is widespread and I don't think a real fix has been found yet, I've been told everything from reinstalling all the drivers from a driver pack they gave me, using the V19 joystick firmware upgrade and updating the BIOS to the latest version.
I'm not sure they know what is causing it.

Geekbuying appears to be selling the new silicone pads for $3.50 each or $7 for both.

I've tried booting it a bunch of times but my power button doesn't seem to be responding either. It's like my whole unit just died. I just emailed them to see if its possible to get the thing repaired. Kinda wish I waited to get the "better" units.

So....if I wanted to buy a Windows GPD in the UK, What/where would be the best place to go about doing it?
I'm slightly wary of venturing onto eBay for something that's probably going to cost in the £250-300 bracket.

Or is it too late and I've completely missed the boat and risking eBay is the only way left to go?

Selling mine for $530AU + Shipping, comes with a Samsung 128GB USB 3.0 Flash Drive great for games if anyone is interested only played it a handful of times and its the new batch so doesn't have any problems like crashing.

Feel free to make an offer too.

Given the amount of keyboard problems I've been trying to figure out anything and finally got a rep to give me a answer.
For the keyboard issue,It should be the reason is lack of voltage of CPU.
It lead to some hardware drive loading incomplete when power on or insert a heavy hard disk.
So the keyboard may suddenly stop working a few second.

And for the improved silicone pads,we are not sell it now.
If your need,we can send you some for free. However the shipping cost may need 10 usd.
Are you willing to bear this shipping cost....
I don't know if its the right answer and have no idea if this is true or if it is the cause of everyone's issue or not but theres' something.
If it is the resistor fix might help and might be why they made a slight change to the pcb in the revised model, dunno about that yet though.

GPD may be many things but never let it be said that they are slow when it comes to designing.
Their latest prototypes of the Pocket.
Discussion of the keyboard design is still ongoing.

Rather than being a Windows device with the option of using Ubuntu this seems to be an Ubuntu device with the option of using Windows.
This is the world's first UMPC to support Ubuntu 16.04 LTS system!
Guerrillas sprayer : Reply Pantsugrd : The main Linux users! First, the system open source, followed by open source software, gcc, gdb, emacs and other programming software can provide a good programming environment, install Chrome can also support Andriod games.
Guerrillas sprayer : there are differences, first of all this product for geeks, Linux enthusiasts, mobile computing and mild office users. It is very small, very convenient to carry, and solve the input problem. Can replace the mainstream combo laptop and tablet. And then the two do not have portability.

Guerrillas sprayer : Then, based on improved WIN program before, the higher its program maturity, which means it does not WIN listed at the beginning of so many problems.

Punish me : reply guerrillas sprayer: I'm talking about board and win .... typo

Guerrillas sprayer : And the heat, to brass heat, heat output of large diameter pipeline, a new fan.

Guerrillas sprayer : plus-one color aluminum CNC shell, appearance comparable MacBook Air. With the configuration, the performance and cost-effective certainly beyond the Surface 3.
Guerrillas sprayer : Reply bulging LF : That is quite! However, if the joystick, then the internal structure is equal to tear down again. But we do not want the name of WIN 2 in this mold based on the change, it will be buyers scolded. Coupled with the default resolution of 1920 * 1080, if you use it to play games, performance is certainly not as good as WIN.

Bulging LF : Reply guerrillas sprayer: This mold is win2 generations, then really good. , A large number of people waiting for a generation of it
2017-1-8 02:50 Reply

Guerrillas sprayer : Reply bulging LF : the WIN 2 will use a higher performance processor, rather than take Z8700 put forward such WIN Max, is expected to have to wait for next year
Guerrillas sprayer : this does not matter, there is little notebook with Ubuntu system, not to mention such a small notebook Ubuntu, this product is definitely a geek circles and Linux users favorite, of course, we also offer Windows 10 firmware.
Guerrillas sprayer : will support Linux, the preferred 64-bit Ubuntu 16.04 LTS, because mainstream desktop notebook, laptop or tablet combo rarely Linux support, but such a small notebook around the world were in developing our company. I have installed Windows in VMware with Ubuntu 14.10 LTS, running very smooth, mainly due to the speed of eMMC, plus Ubuntu itself on the memory requirements of Windows 10 is not high.
Not entirely sure this belongs here in this thread but it is a Cousin to the Win and I can't think of anywhere else to put it.
When people have asked they've said multiple times now there will be a Win 2 with a faster processor in a year so I'm curious how that will perform compared to the current model.

Just wanted to comment in here for anyone who might be thinking about getting one of these.

I've had my current GPD Win since November and I use it waaaaaaaaaaaay more than Ii expected. It is basically my go to gaming device at the moment. Currently, I am playing Hyper Light Drifter on it after having finished Mega Man Zero 3. I also just got the Sega Saturn emu, SSH set up and have been playing quite a bit of mame on it. It's an amazing little device, especially for 2-D indies and emulation purposes.

I just ordered one so that's really awesome to hear. I had been watching and waiting for things to settle down given it was a new system from a company that isn't exactly huge and finally bit the bullet.

I am actually getting this and a Switch in March if I can get one and think I'm more excited about this. I bought a Samsung Fit 128GB Flash Drive and maxed it out with Steam and GameCube games I want to play and will also get a large Micro SD for it as well. The thought of playing some of these games anywhere in a nice DS sized package sounds so awesome!

Out of curiosity, what Saturn emu are you using, would love to play Fighting Vipers again.

I've seen enough people report about accidentally breaking the hdmi port trying to plug in the charging cable a plastic cap for it seems like a wise investment.

There's a new controller firmware release.
Going from V21 to V22.
This is the firmware that is installed on all revised models being shipped out.

Finally figured out how to download things from Baidu so I rehosted it.
Not really familiar with mega so theres a key in case it asks for it.

That appears to be the revised model.
Seems they come with system recovery drives now.
What the new Matte top looks like.
I'm hoping someone will take apart a revised model soon and compare to current models.
Trying to get a new keyboard to test and compare but with them 12 hours apart from me back and forth communication takes a long time to do.

I'm using the emulator SSF. It's an old one and doesnt have the bells and whistles of a more modern emu but does thd job like no other. I don't believe any other Saturn emulators come close in terms of compatibility but I might be wrong. It also runs great on the GPD Win! Actually, every game Ive tried is perfect. Tbe downside is that you have to reconfig the input for every new game. Not a big deal. The other downside is that the emu was created to work with cd's, therefor you need a virtualdrive like daemon tools. Again, not a deal breaker if I can play Panzar Dragoon Saga on a handheld. Now I just need to find a device that will let me move my saves back and forth from my IRL Saturn and my GPD Win.

OK, I need to try this. Does Guardian Heroes work well?

That matte finish looks sweet. I hope we get some impressions soon.

I'm also playing Hyper Light Drifter on my Win. It lags quite a bit in some parts of the game.

Really? Which parts? I played a bit of it, it did lag for me in the new 60 fps mode but not in its original 30 fps form.

Article mentions 6,000 mAh battery, is that right? the specs should read 6,700 mAh battery.

When first announced it had a 6000mah battery which was upgraded midway through the campaign.
There are still Chinese sellers who's listings were never updated and still say 6000mah in them which assumedly is where that bit came from.

{E} Yeah the article links to Gearbest which ever since the listing went up has shown it as a dual boot android windows system and a 6000mah battery.
Well at least it doesn't say it both a Z8700 and Z8500 processor anymore.

Damn, you guys are keeping this thread alive.

GPDwin has been my commute handheld for awhile now. Probs put 80-90 hours into Skyrim.

I ordered this and intend on pre-ordering the Switch (hopefully) and have a feeling that the Win will be my main portable. I have so many games I'm dying to try out and really want to play through and the Win will make it so much easier than my laptop.

So given that you have the most experience with this device, any good lesson learns you could pass on?

When multiple enemies are on screen and there is snow. Yes, I'm playing in 60 fps.

It sucks, but I'd probably stick to the 30 fps mode on the Win. 60 fps seems to be resource intensive in this game, it's not even available on consoles yet. I did most of my playing in 30 fps back when it came out, after a while you adjust to it.

Wow, I'm in awe. I ordered the GPD Win from the GPD store on AliExpress on the 8th and they shipped it yesterday. I paid the extra to get it in a week to week and half, but the thing is scheduled to come in by end of day tomorrow!

Now timing is going to be critical since I'm suppose to be leaving for a plane at 5:00 pm tomorrow. I REALLY hope it get's in before 5:00. I think I'm more excited about this than the Switch presentation now.

The GPD Win far exceeded my expectations and has delivered handily. I take it everywhere as my gaming, Anki, and portable offline electronic dictionary. Now, with Xinput controller steam support, the machine is better than ever.

IT CAME IN! My order from January 8th came in 10 minutes ago! I ordered from Ali through the GPD store and it's the newer model with the matte top.

So is there more someone wants me to compare or look for?

First edition used the Samsung CGND3R and I've seen one image of a revised model with a Toshiba 064G70 eMMC drive.
Yours got a Toshiba as well?
This is a subjective question but do the keys on the keyboard audibly click or do they just feel mushy?

The Switch price is higher than I expected, its GPU performance is lower than I expected, and Nintendo is going with online fees which I didn't expect.

Basically, it's not something I have interest in any more, so an alternative way to play a huge library of games on the go becomes even more appealing.

Once i clear some financials for myself this year ill get a gpd win
Was there any word on a newer or improved model/build being planned for release this year?

Well, the Switch announcement just made the GPD Win (or something like it) even more appealing.

You are a little too harsh because the fact that Switch is a hybrid is a value and has to be paid, but yeah as a handheld lover i have always wanted a win handheld, but i'll wait for a second or third generation handheld, this one still feels to me like a prototype that needs refinements.

This is a hybrid too, it has HDMI output and you can connect other controllers to it too ;)
